    We're leaving this Sunday. IJmuiden > Newcastle. Youre guidebook was very usefull. Booked everything in advance. Riding anti clockwise with a motorhome. Included two days Skye! It's our first time travelling with a motorhome. No worries, I'm a experienced lorrie driver and drove many Miles in England. Also on a bike! Looking forward to this trip!

    This looks epic! Thanks for this awesome info. I was there last spring for a few weeks and only got to drive a little bit of it. I'll be ordering your Guide Book and use it for this mid April's NC500 solo trip vlog.
    Cheers!

    I'm doing the NC500 in August, do you think we need to book campsites in advance, or is there generally space for you to just turn up on the day?

    Hi Roobie - love the channel and got the book. Planning on doing NC500 in next couple of months. Just 1 question / piece of advice please? Could I make it all the way (including challenging roads like Bealach na Bà) with my small Mink Camper teardrop trailer. Keen to try if it’s do-able. Thanks for any advice.

    • @robbieroams
      @robbieroams  4 месяца назад +1

      It would depend on how long your total length (car plus trailer is)

    Very happy to see you included Strathy Bay. I used to get taken there in the school holidays when I was a kid. Saw RAF Harriers doing low level flying training and my first ‘girlfriend’ (for about 2 weeks when we were both aged 14) was a local girl. Not been since the early 90’s but am swinging by next year with my Wife on our semi retirement tour.

    I’m planning a road trip and wanted to know what’s the best time of year to avoid midges

    • @robbieroams
      @robbieroams  3 месяца назад

      Probably July & August is when you’d expect them to be out and about although it varies massively, the West coast suffers more and it’s very weather dependant.

    Thanks for the video! We did the NC500 in 2019 and loved it, but we went in late March. Half open, half not! Not many petrol stations had fuel etc. When would you recommend the best time to go is that's not going to be mental, but also open for the season?

    • @lucasn1356
      @lucasn1356 5 месяцев назад

      Not many stations with fuel - how far between fill ups did you have to do? We’re going this summer in cars that might struggle to get 250 miles to a tank

    • @WoodyTheCampervan
      @WoodyTheCampervan 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@lucasn1356 You'll be fine with 250 miles. Places like Inverness, Wick, Thurso, Ullapool & Gairloch (the bigger places) had proper petrol stations so would suggest those. Some of the smaller towns and villages along the north and west coast were the ones that were where we had trouble - single pump outside of a village store type of thing

      Most of the restaurants, campsites and attractions are open from the end of April until September/October. I would say May or September personally 👍

    • @robbieroams
      @robbieroams  5 месяцев назад +1

      Midges can be hit and miss, some years worse than others, only in some areas not others - generally they are worse in June, July & August.

    Have got to ask Robbie. Have heard various comments that the NC500 is not a road for caravan towers even if experienced, can you comment please.

    • @robbieroams
      @robbieroams  6 месяцев назад

      There are a couple of parts that aren’t accessible (Drumbeg Loop & Bealach Na Ba Pass), although that would apply to larger motorhomes too. The rest would be possible for an experienced tower. A good option is picking a few campsites as a base to explore from 👍

    The Scottish Tourist Board have unwittingly ruined this area. I have been going every year for 4 decades. Was there last week, and don't think I will go again. Beelach Na Ba is now just a motorhome traffic jam, despite road signs saying 'not advisable for motorhomes'. These signs are ignored (understandably, as big brown NC500 signs point you up) which leads to jams. In other single track roads, lots of motorhomes, foreign, hired and private, and a lot of drivers do not know the etiquette of the passing places, both for oncoming vehicles and those wishing to overtake. Think I'm done with this part of Scotland now. I appreciate it has brought money in.
