I used to admire ጳውሎስ ኞኞ . I will tell you a true story about ጳውሎስ ኞኞ. It was in 1966 Ethiopian calendar (1974 European calendar) three students from the then Haile Selassie university visited ጳውሎስ ኞኞ at his office. These three students are Eritreans. Still all of them are alive. One is living now in Asmara, the other one is living in USA and the third one is living in Canada. I cannot mention their name, because I have first to ask them their permission. They asked ጳውሎስ ኞኞ if he believes that Eritrea is going to be an independent country. ጳውሎስ ኞኞ answered to them it is going to happen, but none of us is going to see it. ጳውሎስ ኞኞ prediction was correct, but all of them including ጳውሎስ ኞኞ saw Eritrean independence.
No, Unfortunately I was not present with them at that time. I was disappointed that I missed the opportunity to meet ጳውሎስ ኞኞ. I heard the story from them. I am living now in Oslo, Norway. So you can understand that I am not one of them. I can tell you another true story. During Derg era, people were afraid to posses luxurious cars. There were very expensive and luxurious cars confiscated from the royal family by Derg. Derg announced to sell the cars and people were afraid to buy those cars. ጳውሎስ ኞኞ was very courageous person and bought one Citron car very cheaply by bidding. No others were bidding, because people were afraid to buy cars from Derg. If there is some ambiguity with this story I am willing to retract it. Now it is almost 40 years I can forget some of it.
