    I find beautiful wooden boxes at thrift stores for just a few dollars. Some are lockable with skeleton key and have felt. Jewelry boxes, music boxes, cigar boxes. I acquired a couple of Crown Royal cloth liquor bags that hold my plastic travel sets. You can get creative and repurpose.

    The niece, nephew and myself play with a couple old wooden and plastic sets which I got second hand back in the day. Those beloved pieces have been enjoyed for many years and have been dropped on every surface imaginable and even survived a Beagle attack. I also have my own "prized" sets that have a place of honor and also sees action. Like you, I have kept my shipping containers for storage but I read some players have used plastic tackle box containers made by Plano of Plano Illinois. These can be found in some department stores and also Dick's Sporting Goods, Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops. They have adjustable dividers to accommodate different size pieces. But for the knock around sets and for my plastic set I have used and still use wooden cigar boxes from the big box liquor store with cigar department or local cigar store. Many have a slide top or hinges. These come in many sizes and can be had for a dollar or two, sometimes free. Some of these boxes are exceptionally beautiful and well made and would complement a top tier set. I also use a Crown Royal Special Reserve drawstring bag especially for my plastic pieces. I throw the full bag into my backpack along with a folded silicone chessboard in a ziploc. The CR also takes the edge off a lost match!!! LOL Again great video. Looking forward to more!

      Thanks for watching Albert! I didn't think of using cigar cases, that's brilliant! Some of the large wooden boxes that used to hold silverware are also usable, I come across them often at second hand stores like goodwill, people are not collecting silverware anymore so people throw the boxes out, and they are felted and padded, sometimes with extra compartments. I also heard some people say they use tackle containers, I might have to look and see for myself!

    For those who keep their boards set up all the time on a table, be aware that light changes the color of wood overtime and you don't want circles of different color in your squares.

    • @AlSuChess

    Nice box but it's a shame about the size, seems like they're going for the Jaques of London look with that style of label on the top. If you want check some pretty nice boxes that are quite cheap take a look at New Zealand Chess Supplies. They're similar to the HOS ones with hinged lid except they have a simple latch instead of the lock and key set up. They go for around $40 US but I'm not sure how much more you'll be looking at for shipping.

    • @AlSuChess
      @AlSuChess  3 года назад +1

      Those boxes do look really nice, I like the walnut large box. Seems that for shipping outside of New Zealand you have to contact them separately though.

    I just got my mahogany chess box today. It's beautiful but JUST barely fits my Preston Series chessmen which are wide bodied. I'd hate for them to be scratched. Even though they'll be more for display and play, I actually like the idea of the gun case should I need to store them! I just might do that. Thanks for the idea. :)

    • @AlSuChess
      @AlSuChess  3 года назад

      Yeah the gun case does work pretty well, just don't get one that's too small, otherwise they are fairly inexpensive and great to carry your pieces around!

    Are you able to put a half army of a 4.4inch king in the library chess box?

    • @AlSuChess

      With very careful placement, but that wouldn't be practical, unless you wanted to get 4 of these small boxes for one chess set.

      @@AlSuChess I brought the challenger set in the olive ash and rosewood wood set. I have those pieces in its own chess box. I had an issue with that set so I contact HOS Customer Service. I was able to get the Burmese blackwood at a discount price. Now I have 3 color in one chess set. I was hoping that I can put one color in one of the library box.

      @@violinisthenry I see! Congrats on the challenger set, that's one I also was looking at, very attractive knights. I got the challenger set because I love how big the rooks are. In the description on the website it states how powerful the rook is.
      On the side note: I own 9 different sets from all different price points ($179-$1495) all in their 9 different chess boxes/cases. Again all from their $70 box to a $695. I would to share them with you.
