The difference between the development of the wing patterns of male and female chicks is evidente. . The question I ask is whether this is a general rule or whether it is a characteristic of a particular breed. Very thanks!
This is good to know because we’ve had trouble telling until after our chickens and ducks have grown to know if they are male or female. Now is there a video for sexing ducklings?
Thankyou. I wish I had this information years ago. When a children my sisters kept buying & bringing home baby chicks. They ALL turned into roosters! Dad & I had to dispose of them. Council rules only allowed for the ownership of hens not roosters.
Its a good information. But just be a bit gentle with them. They are too small, you know... maybe put some hankey on their eyes to cover before showing the wings.. so they are calm. Its stressful for them and sometimes they die from stress. unless the babye is over 1 week old.
Yep it sure doesn't work for all breeds. Totally useless information. Doesn't tell us what breed, doesn't talk, doesn't explain things. Just wants hits and time viewing. It would be helpful to remove this not useful video and redo it. Sorry to be so frank but seriously dude.. do another one and get this crap off the internet.
@deborahmartin9672 Depends on the breed for the most part. I have found that by 4 weeks or so, it is almost impossible to tell on most, but a few, you can tell on longer, and some are difficult by 3 weeks. For me, 10 days to 2 weeks works best, and under a week doesn't seem to work well either. The best to you with it!
I heard idk if it's true but if you have a lot of male chicks means your rooster is old and this is because it's gonna die soon and is mother nature's way of making sure the bloodline don't die I know sounds stupid but hey never know
Male chickens are called Cockral the female is called a Pullet after a year the Cockral matures into an adult called a Cock . The Pullet matures into a Hen .
Never bothered with that when they are young. But we also got 100 at a time from the hatchery. The cockrals never made it to the cock age. That works out to we had chicken once a week. 8 mouths to fill in the house. 100 in the hen house in December. The pullets did did because they lay eggs. Always had fresh eggs. But now I live in the city and buy anemic eggs.
How come the ones with different length feathers he's arcing as all male... when females have different lengths... all the things I've learned in 2 years was all thrown out with this video
You can tell if your chicks will be male or female before they hatch. If the egg is long and pointy thats a male, if it's round and not pointy thats a female.
Looking for spurs on young birds is not a reliable way to sex them because it is not uncommon for hens to also have spurs. I do not know about all breeds but I do know with most breeds some hens, but not all, will also grow spurs. My best layer a Moran hen has spurs and hens spurs tend to be shorter and smaller than a roosters spurs.

I learned this many years ago and has been a valuable tool of knowledge. It isn't 100% but is almost. Does not work as they get older.
At what age is it that you cannot tell please?

Yes............
Cock lol
Technically they have to be over 12 weeks of age and under one year to be called pullets and cockerels. Below that they're generally just chicks

You can tell if your chicks will be male or female before they hatch. If the egg is long and pointy thats a male, if it's round and not pointy thats a female.
Non
It's confusing regarding with your sample chicks.

How about in turkey
Hi thanks for video . I have a question do all the chicks born with the speare mark on their legs or is it just the male chicks.

i bought 10 chicks from a farmer.. he said he can tell a rooster form a hen by looking at the wings.. turns out i have 3 roosters and 7 hens.
Good....
It's 100 percentage true or not my vote is not true

How dare you assume their gender!
