still trying to figure this stuff out, I'm a MPC guy who just recently switched over to Native Instruments Maschine and this video has helped me understand the basics more. I'll get there soon, thanks.
very much appreciate this.. i got original Maschine years ago and have been lightly using it, but having these tutorials to hone skills (i record more guitars, basses and drums live and use Maschine as Fairy Dust) is fantastic...

Peace Keep doing it how you doing it.
yeah love Maschine, so intuitive for workflow and speed of getting idea's down. I think i'd struggle to make complex arrangements with it, but for getting down grooves, rhythms, resampling, it's such an advanced tool.
@reoscorpio what you need to do is go into the sampler tab of that sound, you'll notice the sample you selected says oneshot, change that to adsr tah dah, magic
Hi, I found an old school sample that I really like and got some really great chops out of it that works well together. The only problem I'm having is time stretching it to the right tempo so the beat will play out the way I want it to. What would you suggest?
Royce Stone do you know the tempo of the original sample? If not you could loop the sample in Maschine, making sure you've cut it properly on the first beat, and play around with the tempo until it loops perfectly. Tools like Logic's Flex and Ableton's Warp make this process very quick, as you can drag hits around until they match the beats in your project, whilst preserving the audio quality of the sample.
Is it possible if you have a choir on top of your sample and lead on the bottom, to split them apart from each other? if not is there any place that allows you to do this? in this video the top and bottom of the sample are the same, but when I import a sample they are often two different sounds coming together. Great video by the way!
lorditill Maschine software will be reading the sample from wherever you have it saved on your computer. So make sure whichever folder you loaded the sample from you don't move around.
Thanks for the info, much helped! Listen, sometimes I get these popping noises at the very beginning or end of a sample after chopping. I was wondering if there is any way to clean this up? Tis
Paleface the Albino If you are in the Sample 'Edit' page apply a fade in or fade out to the beginning/end of the sample and that should smooth out any pop or clicks. you would need to drag your audio samples to the sound slots - you could either drag audio from your desktop straight to the sound slot, or you could navigate to the audio using the Maschine browser. Once you have a piece of audio in a sound slot, and the group that sound slot belongs to is in focus, the sound will be playable from the pads on your hardware.
Thank you for this tutorial. I do have a couple questions though of some troubleshooting for recorded samples. 1. For some reason some of my recorded samples are only playing in my left headphone and the right is completely silent. If I try to change the Left to Right volume parameter, to the side that isn’t playing, it goes completely silent. 2. I noticed in every other sampling video I’ve been watching, everyone’s samples display as two waveforms on the screen, but on my screen it’s only displaying as one waveform. Why is this?
Do you find yourself limited by the missing arrangement view? Say you want to arrange Fx samples and such. If Yes, could you please make a video explaining why and how?
Like the ability to work in a not-loop-based mode.. To me Maschine resembles only the Session View from Ableton Live so you would miss the Arrangement View, right?
***** you arrange by loading patterns into scenes (the scene view is the window at the top), so yeah it's not the same as arranging with one of the more common DAW's like Ableton, Logic, etc. But you can arrange a track and apply automation, fx, etc, like you would with any other DAW but it's just set up slightly differently. Personally I use Logic to arrange and mix, Maschine is my sketch pad.
***** If you're a big Live user I could understand the temptation of look at Push, but when I say Maschine is my sketch pad - I mean I write and record/step sequence drum rhythms, percussion loops, bass lines, synths, etc, all from the Maschine controller and not even looking up at the computer screen. Which is a way of writing I really enjoy.
Guys I need some help when I sample the accapella into Maschine etc and truncate or stretch I want to know how to then place. Full accapella into the scene so that the accapella flows the full song and I can build round it as well as chopping parts to use where and when I like, hope you canhelp
Hello! Thank you for this very comprehensive overview. I got one question concerning the mapping of samples: is it possible to split samples through velocity( like in Kontakt) so that you have one slot used but actually trigger the four laid out kickdrums via velocity? Keep it up, greetings, H.
Hi , What's the maximum size of a sample that can be dropped and edited . I.E. - say a accapella of 3 mins . Would it be able to handle it, and detect transients etc then apply to seperate sound slots ? Cheers
***** just dropped an 8 minute track into the sampler and Maschine played it back no problem. However, it only detected transients up to 1 minute, when I increased the sensitivity of the detection it only detected up to 30 seconds - so obviously there is a limit on how many slices you can apply in one go - though I'm not sure what this number is.
i have a sample that has different left and right channels, can i delete one or the other, or combine into one channel, or do i need to use another editor, thanks
Use the tune control in the sampler to pitch samples up/down. Or alternatively, when you load a sample into the Sampler Maschine will automatically map it chromatically to the keyboard - so you could play the sampler back at higher/lower pitches.
That didn't answer my question. After tuning the sample then selecting Sampling Mode to slice it, the sample reverts back to original pitch. How do I keep the pitch I set it at while in the slice screen?
hey guys, I really need help with something, I havent been able to find it anywhere!!!! ahhhh. So In 1.8 you could click on shift browse and have the option of creatng an input source.. This comes in really handy because i use maschine as my main source of production... I have an analog synth that I like to route into it then throw filters, vsts, etc. and it make it completely different. Any ways, I assume maschine wouldnt disregard that feature, So how do i do it? Do you guys have any tutorials on that? or could you possibly point me in the right direction? *****
Hey guys! Great work, love the tutorials. I am a director in La with a background in music. I deal with a lot of old soundtrack that are on a psych sensibility. Question. Looking for a workflow within machine where I can split a stereo sample and use left or right side as a mono sample. I've been doing it in recycle but was wondering if you guys had an option within 2.0. Thanks in advance. Keep doing your do! MAZIK
im just asking, what can i use to "pass audio" to my maschine so i can get samples from the internet. I heard of "soundflower" but i downloaded it and it gave my mac a virus. so do you know of any others, so i can get music from the internet to sample?
I'm very new to maschine, so I apologize ahead of time for the most basic question I'm about to ask. When I go to sampling mode on my maschine no sound is being picked up. Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I would assume you have a mic plugged in, but sound isn't being picked up even when I play music. Do I need an audio interface? All the videos i've watched kind of start passed this point, and I'm stuck trying to get the sound to get picked up through my maschine. Thank you for any help, and again I'm sorry for the simplistic question.
AJ Phillips It depends on your set up. If you have an audio interface then you'll need to have that interface selected in your audio preferences in Maschine (file drop down menu>audio and MIDI settings>device) and your mic plugged into it. If your computer/laptop has an internal mic (most laptops do) you could use your built in audio device to record.
Thank you for your response. I don't have an interface, and that's definitely what the setup was on the previous video I watched. I absolutely have a internal Mic on my computer. Would you by any chance know what would be a reason audio isn't being picked up? The Mic is definitely functional, and my computer is an iMac purchased recently.
AJ Phillips Do you have 'built in' selected in your audio preferences? And if so, when you go to sampling do you have 'Ext. Ster.' selected as your source?
***** Yes, I have both of those selected, and I have no clue why the maschine isn't picking up any sound. I even put the the threshold on detect mode. Thanks again for your response, and i'm sorry if you're getting tired of answering these replies.
AJ Phillips Do you have input 1 selected as your input? Have you tried testing your built in microphone using another application - eg. Skype? If the answers yes to both of these questions, and you've successfully used the internal mic with another application, I would contact Native Instruments support. If you can't get your mic to work in any application on your Mac then I would contact Apple.
When I sample from my Record player and play back the sample in maschine it stops for some reason in the sampling section. I have to hold on the pad in order to play back the sample. Is there any way I can change the release? Thanks for your help
tcw00 Yes, just change the amplitude envelope to one-shot instead of ADSR/AHD. This is located on the second page of options in Maschine's sampler. I show it at 1:20 in this video: ruclips.net/video/gY2t8UNZGqk/видео.htmlm20s
I made a sample in maschine using massive. But I'm trying to start the sample low and gradually bring it up higher but I'm unable to figure out So simple yet so frustrating, I know that on my mk2 I can hold down shift + auto and move around the master volume nob on the massive file while recording and it will save. I know there's more ways to do so but I'm hitting a wall I can't get around on my own. On a ableton you can just go to the volume envelope adjust how you prefer and walla. But it's just that simple lack of knowledge I'm missing on maschine any help out there? Thnks
Could you not do exactly as you say? Auto write the automation using your mk2 controller, then if you want to edit that automation afterwards you can do in the pattern. Personally I always record my automation in manually, then edit afterwards if I need to - always sounds more natural to me this way.
I have my microphone connected and it's working in maschine but why isn't it recording over my beats? I've tried everything & I can't seem to figure it out & all I need to do is record vocals! please help.
+Ally Schell Double click in the pattern area on the sound you have recorded your vocal, this will create a MIDI note, click and drag the right side and extend it to the length of your vocal.
+Ally Schell Maschine doesn't have audio tracks, so when you record your vocal it's recorded into a sampler, you then need to programme some MIDI in order to trigger that sample. Watch this video, at 12:18 I apply some chops and you can see it creats a MIDI pattern for the samples: ruclips.net/video/AwW77g6FdOc/видео.html&lc=z12iwt55bpu4xz2l523cghcx2nijhvtsn You don't necessarily need to chop your vocal like this, but you need those MIDI notes in order to trigger the vocal. Keep the MIDI notes on C3 to keep the original pitch.
When I put it on sample, the software doesn't seem to pick up any noise. Idk what to do, this shit is frustrating... I can't sample because it doesn't pick up any sound on sample smh
Hey I've got a question for you guys. I have an emu esi 32sampler and some really cool samples on floppy disk going along with it. Now I'm trying to get them into a format, that I can easily use on my mac in machine or logic etc. I want to preserve the emu characteristics. My first idea was: Maschine MIDI out -> Emu MIDI in -> Emu then in stereo into my interface (Tascam) that is connected directly to my Mac. Now i wanted to simply press play and sample it in Maschine (Mk1). When sampler is in trigger mode and I control it directly with its lil buttons the audio comes out fine. When I have Maschine in Sampler mode I can even 'see' the sounds on machines hardware display (but not in the software) and when I press record nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Thank you! (and your tutorials are really helpful btw!)
I'd say that maschine is not hardware focused, but software focused with a controller to accelerate the production process. Plus when making a video the screen capture shows much more than the controller being used.
The designer of Maschine will surely have spat his coffee out by now. We're all entitled to our opinions of course but i'd suggest you are missing out on the whole 'vibe' that makes Maschine unique.
Music Production Tutorials Hey, I totally hear you here. Though, with there now being 5 different Maschine controllers (and counting), our approach to tackle the software means it's relatable to all Maschine users. Anyone who's used Maschine extensively will know 95% of the stuff you can do with the software is all intuitively accessible from the hardware.
Fair point there and I know logistically it's way more work to record a cam at the same time as the screen. I personally believe the controller is the key to the 'fun' side of maschine and it's great to see people vibing with it.
Hey whats up, i have a question i hope someone can answer. after i sample.. in my case, a vocal/Verse .. & move the sample to a pad (other then pad #1).. How do you get the sound of the sample to STOP playing when you release the pad.?? How do you get the sample to have NO "Aftertouch" right now, the sound shuts off by default on Pad #1, but when i put a sample on other pads & then either play that pad or click it.. when i move away from the pad, the audio keeps playing. (do i have to "Edit" it or something to enable it to STOP when i release the Pad) when i have Verse of Lyrics (Vocals) on a pad, i only want the pad to be active for a certain time period, & then want to change to something else without having both play at the same time.. & i don't think this is about "Keyboard" mode.. because that only lets you take the sound from ONE pad, & play is across the range of all 16 pads.. i want to be able to play whatever i have on EACH pad, but have the pads sound shut off after i release it (basically stop the pad from having an "after touch")
Provided all your vocals are in the same group, change the polyphony of all the sounds to 1 and set them to a choke group, whichever sound you have as the master will chop all the other sounds off when it plays. Check the tutorial we did covering this here: www. maschineskills.com/maschine-tutorials/using-maschine-choke-groups-and-link-groups/ To have a sound/sample only playback for the duration you hold the pad, change it from 'one shot' to an 'AHD' or 'ADSR' envelope.
Yo man I can only record samples eternally I cant get it to use external it doesn't pick up anything. I am using a Focusrite interface. so what do I do ? this is frustrating
Justice have you tried unplugging your Focusrite and seeing if you can record using your computers built in mic? What mic are you using with the Focusrite?
***** no I'm using a desktop which I built and my recording would source would be the snowball which has waveforms when I talk but not when maschine is up. And my audio output would be line in 1&2 which is the focusrite
It's so damn vulgar, and rude, to ask for subs, likes, memberships, ETC. prior to the video even starting. Beggars, can't stand these YT beggars! I hope thumbs down does something now, 'cause you're getting it....and I haven't even watched the video yet. Vulgar, eh?
I always wanted to get any sound into this program and I never knew how for the longest time. Until this video, thank you man.

Use envelopes and play with an "attack and decay"
as an audio person you should record a clean mic channel.. driving me nuts with the clicks
Yeah I hear ya. This video is pretty old now, and was done when I was working remote with a headset. All stuff these days is recorded with a condenser mic and usually has some post production for clarity.

which DAW do you use? With Logic Pro you have a plug in called Utility, with which you can convert your audio from a stereo signal to a mono signal.
If i drag and drop a record off of itunes, into MK2 can i chop it, if so how.

you could simply pan your sample - hard left, bounce it out and re-import it as a mono file. Then do the same with it panned hard right.

how do u change the left and right ear output on a sample so one side can go into both ears
On the Sampling page, go to Edit and there is a button in the top right where you can either collapse to Mono or separate to Stereo.

tcw00 Yes, just change the amplitude envelope to one-shot instead of ADSR/AHD. This is located on the second page of options in Maschine's sampler. I show it at 1:20 in this video: ruclips.net/video/gY2t8UNZGqk/видео.htmlm20s

+Ally Schell Once you have your recording you will need to programme a MIDI note in order to trigger it.
+ADSR Music Production Tutorials and how do i do that?
+Ally Schell Double click in the pattern area on the sound you have recorded your vocal, this will create a MIDI note, click and drag the right side and extend it to the length of your vocal.
I dont get what you mean...are u saying for me to record my vocals and then extend that pattern or extend the beats pattern?
+Ally Schell Maschine doesn't have audio tracks, so when you record your vocal it's recorded into a sampler, you then need to programme some MIDI in order to trigger that sample. Watch this video, at 12:18 I apply some chops and you can see it creats a MIDI pattern for the samples:
ruclips.net/video/AwW77g6FdOc/видео.html&lc=z12iwt55bpu4xz2l523cghcx2nijhvtsn
You don't necessarily need to chop your vocal like this, but you need those MIDI notes in order to trigger the vocal. Keep the MIDI notes on C3 to keep the original pitch.
When I put it on sample, the software doesn't seem to pick up any noise. Idk what to do, this shit is frustrating... I can't sample because it doesn't pick up any sound on sample smh
TheDENCOnative Take a look at audio routing under the file menu. Are you using an interface?
Oh and when I put the emu into midi and try to control it with my machine nothing happens either
Nice video BUT Maschine is a HARDWARE focused solution, why do you spend so much time using the software? surely that defeats the object?
I'd say that maschine is not hardware focused, but software focused with a controller to accelerate the production process. Plus when making a video the screen capture shows much more than the controller being used.
The designer of Maschine will surely have spat his coffee out by now. We're all entitled to our opinions of course but i'd suggest you are missing out on the whole 'vibe' that makes Maschine unique.
Way better off using Kontakt for sampling in your DAW if you're not using Maschine hardware estensively.
I personally believe the controller is the key to the 'fun' side of maschine and it's great to see people vibing with it.
hey what do i do im sampling it keeps saying output cant record audio i cant seem to fix it #andrewschellman @andrewshecllman
Hey whats up, i have a question i hope someone can answer. after i sample.. in my case, a vocal/Verse .. & move the sample to a pad (other then pad #1).. How do you get the sound of the sample to STOP playing when you release the pad.?? How do you get the sample to have NO "Aftertouch"
right now, the sound shuts off by default on Pad #1, but when i put a sample on other pads & then either play that pad or click it.. when i move away from the pad, the audio keeps playing. (do i have to "Edit" it or something to enable it to STOP when i release the Pad)
when i have Verse of Lyrics (Vocals) on a pad, i only want the pad to be active for a certain time period, & then want to change to something else without having both play at the same time..
Check the tutorial we did covering this here:
www. maschineskills.com/maschine-tutorials/using-maschine-choke-groups-and-link-groups/
To have a sound/sample only playback for the duration you hold the pad, change it from 'one shot' to an 'AHD' or 'ADSR' envelope.
No I haven't tried but I will and I haven't completed my studio yet so I don't have a mic. All I have is this old snowball which is a USB mic
Justice Well I did that and it still didn't work. I unplugged the focusrite and had the regular speaker in. and it wont work with the snowball either
Justice have you tried using the computer mic? are you on a laptop? Under Recording, what have you got selected as your source?
***** no I'm using a desktop which I built and my recording would source would be the snowball which has waveforms when I talk but not when maschine is up. And my audio output would be line in 1&2 which is the focusrite
Best video, for These Topic.
thank you so much, this helped a lot
Really helpful, Thanks for posting!

Nice Tutorial...
somebody get this guy a glass of water....jeez
this would have been much better without your ASMR sounds of wet mouth crackling and all.
It's so damn vulgar, and rude, to ask for subs, likes, memberships, ETC. prior to the video even starting. Beggars, can't stand these YT beggars!
I hope thumbs down does something now, 'cause you're getting it....and I haven't even watched the video yet. Vulgar, eh?
Nice tutorial. Have a drink man. Listening to you smacking your lips is effing annoying
