Great vid again. AEC Mercury gearbox a 6speed overdrive, and 11mpg! In the 90s I had the opportunity to drive an ERF with Eaton splitter, a brilliant gearbox, as it was semi auto, the driving seat however was like you'd been to Australia and back when you got out! The AEC must have had a good all round vision,no front mirror but a lower windscreen not like today, but I notice some had the convex mirror on the doors, which today is common.I've driven Globetrotter, Scania v8,Mercedes, Daf,etc with all the modern inputs of today. I think if you could drive AEC or truck of this time, at average 40mph across the UK, full time job, it was your apprenticeship, no creature comforts, I take my hat off to the people who did do that, the trailblazers with boots made of steel.
Beautiful slide show of these bad boys! Such an elegant yet hyper masculine truck. AEC made the best looking truck wheels ever with those nut rings and the AEC blue and red symbol on the hub.
A real blast from the past there mate. Look at the sheeting and roping on some of those, really neat, a lost art now. Anyone remember if you saw a waggon with sheets flapping it was a sign of poor workmanship ? Thanks for posting.
Associated Equipment Company. At 0.25 a photo of a BRS AEC with a well roped and sheeted load.. My first three vehicles on the BRS were a 1958 Mercury 553 XHT,, A 'Mandator BHU 274 C and a later Mercury NBO 436 F. It's funny how I can remember all these numbers, yet can't remember the number of our car parked outside.
hi there. i used to work for AEC ltd Southall from 1969 to may 1979 and remember all these types of chassis, the cabs used to come from Sankys up in the midlands. we used our own wks transport for this, we also did vehicles for the MOD ie, 6x6 chassis cabs such as the 0870 and 0880. Park Royal did the top half of the cabs. Wimpey was also a good customer of ours in the 70s
So good to see so many old trucks being saved and looked after now 😍😍👍👍

Great video, they were sold as Leylands in Australia. Lovely design, quite a nice looking truck actually.
The ergomatic cab was advanced looking for an early 60s design.
Excellent collection of photos; good trip down memory lane, thanks 👍👍

Ευχαριστουμε φιλε, πολυ καλη δουλεια εκανες. Εχεις καποια βιντεο με ford d 1000?
Thease are what kept the goods rolling in the 60 70s I should think there totally different to drive to days modern trucks
Might be totally wrong but the blue artic has that had a roof from an ERF put on it
Yeah I agree the pictures are flashing on off too quick.
Too quick, need to have at least 2 or three times longer per photo, don't get a chance to get a good look
