    I was wanting to know if it is possible to spot weld 2 tubes of stainless together that are.312" x .063" wall????? Just butt them together, and a few small spot welds on the seam where they meet.......that's all, but was wanting to use a Harbor Freight spot welder??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

    Thank you very much for sharing this video! It looks somewhat oldschool, but the information presented here is very valuable to me. Its the first useful explanation I found on the internet on how an inverter works, even Wikipedia does not explain that so well.
    Btw, does "shunting" mean that the current on the 2nd, 3rd etc. spot weld is less strong than on the first one? Because some current bypasses through other spot weld points on the workpiece?

    • @FourSeasonsNorth4x4
      @FourSeasonsNorth4x4 6 лет назад

      Lejf Diecks good question. Better if we had an answer. My belief is it could be detrimental to the newest weld permeation thus making it not as strong? Thoughts?

    Lejf Diecks , I repaired and maintained resistance welders for 38 years . trucks was our product . Metal thickness from 1.5 to 10 millimeters in steel , 1.5 to 6 millimeters in aluminum .Shunting becomes a problem if weld spacing is less than 70 millimeters .

    Is there a way to measure the metrics like hold time, sqeeze time, pulses etc?

    • @stewartalbert3523
      @stewartalbert3523 5 лет назад +1

      Vishnu Sekar ,resistance weld controls are programmed to control,squeeze , weld , hold and off time in increments of units of 1 hz . Also can increase current up and down during each weld . To clarify Squeeze time is time to apply force before current , weld is current flow , hold is time to allow weld to solidify and cool tip force is maintained ,off is time between welds usually only used in manual operation by a human operator . Controls can also interface with automation , sending a signal that we called "weld complete signal " Hope this information is useful . You may to find more info if you search for Resistance Welder Manufacturers Association .. R, W. M . A .

    What is the effect of shunting?
    What i sould see that the current followed an alternate low resistance path. Won't this cause the spot welder to fail? because there is not enough current flow at the point.

    • @gbzhemn1
      @gbzhemn1 10 лет назад +2

      A shunt could be described as a leak on a water hose. If the leak is small you won't loose much water pressure at the nozzle, but you can still measure how many drops that leak out to calculate the pressure inside the hose.
      What they mean by shunting in this particular video is very hard to figure out since their only comment is "shunting". But yes you are correct, if the current were to flow as depicted in the video the spot welder would fail catastrophically as there is no current flowing through the point that you want to heat up!
      This can't happen though. I'm not sure what it is they are trying to depict in the video, but there is no way that current will ever take the path of greater resistance as shown here.

    • @ryanswanson5108
      @ryanswanson5108 5 лет назад +1

      Paul, Yes the metal needs to be cleaned/ bear where the welding tips touch on either side, the coatings can remain in the middle of the stack, this typically includes corrosion protection products, weld through primers, adhesives etc...
