Really don't understand the hate from certain parts of the fandom. This album is Shinedown through and through. Heavy, punchy, catchy soaring choruses, lyrics with hooks for days. That voice. I love this album. Up there with the best from them. Not one weak song.

Too much noise, yet not enough of the good ol' Shinedown. Change is change, but there's good change and bad change, and this is honestly bad change. I liked Shinedown because they didn't go for the safe poppy shit that most musical artists were going for at the time, but it seems that even they've given in now.
I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I love it as much as the proceeding ones. It's wicked! They were awesome at Download last year!

How the hell does a band consistently kill it album after album?? This was so different upon first listen, but goddamnit they kill it on every level. The more I listen the more I love this. Shinedown is a band that comes along once in a lifetime. Perfection on every level possible 🤘🔥☠️

This band has successfully experimented with their songs. I have been skeptical about this album when I watched some random youtubers, who reviewed the album based on just one song - 'Devil' via their reactions, but nope, Shinedown has once again proven that they are not making songs for radio hits. I can see the change in the lyrics, the overall experiments in their style and I can sense that this band is growing in the right direction. Thank you Shinedown for keeping 'Rock' as it deserves to be.
Obviously this is not rock, this is too mainstream pop and rap it’s an embarrassment to their music, I’ll remember shinedown as they used to be, not what they’ve become now

Obviously Brent’s not just gonna repeat sound of madness or anything but think about it this way, they’re leaving all of their longtime heavy metal, rock fans behind while making this album, threat to survival is something they experimented with and in my opinion it wasn’t bad at all, it was a success but you can’t accept the fact that shinedown can fail an experiment and screw up a song and you guys are perfect examples of die hard fans who will always love everything they make even if it’s absolute shit, it’s like a good producer for movies and everything has been good so far and then they make something shit and you won’t accept the honest truth, even my parents, friends, family, etc agree with me that they really lost their touch with this album so far and this isn’t great, I just hope they stop experimenting with this shit and go back to the raw rock which shinedown is loved for, that is what really bad the big hits is that natural raw sound of Brent’s voice and then they ruined it with electronic bullshit, and I’m not liking this because shinedown is a ROCK, HEAVY METAL, what these songs are is rap and electronic stuff that is completely different from what they have made over years of producing music which is why I know this album won’t make it as good as others because it lost the natural heavy shit that me and thousands, correction, millions have loved them for, and I don’t want to get aggressive at other people over this, I just honestly wanna state my opinion and if you can’t except that in your obscured point of view then just don’t attack me for having my opinions
Cbekster 9000 I see what u mean but for me I love all music except country so I love this album because I love rap & techno. I thought it took balls & talent to rap on the one song I loved it. I love the different sounds & vocals because I love that kind of music too. I loved the raw vocals but he won't do them to much anymore maybe because of his past. Maybe he will go back to that but alot of Shinedown fans do like all kinds of music so it works. They might loose some fans but not that many to make a difference. If your a fan of Shinedown then u never know what to expect & that's what makes them the most unique band out there.
Cbekster 9000 I liked their heavier, more raw stuff better. Not saying they should repeat the same album, but very little of the songs in their newer albums are as rock elemented as their older ones. I still like some of the songs though. But this song is a perfect example of what I'm trying to say, the opening guitar sounds badass to me, and I even like the verses, too; but when it gets to the chorus I just don't like the sound too much, it's not even a bad chorus I just don't think it fits with how the rest of the song sounds. But that's just my opinion so obviously everybody else could think differently.
I don't understand why people hate on the album. Sure it is different from the old ones but things change get over it. I love this song and Devil and Kill your Conscience. But Shinedown keep doing what you are doing

The people that hate on this album because it's so different are also the kind of people that would hate on it if it sounded the same. More than likely they are also the kind of people this album speaks out against so they need to defend their way of life thus proving all the points Brent Smith makes :) Their life motto is never satisfied. Lmao.
On another note, Shinedown fucking kills it again!! I love the fact the "themes" for the album's change based off what's going on in society and what the gentleman in Shinedown want to address. Dude could sing the damn phone book and I would still buy the album ;)

It took awhile to grow on me. My daughter pointed out some of the songs she likes and I went back to listen. Its the lyrics we listen to
I can never get tired of this album. It helped me fight my way back through a horrible brain injury. Shinedown will be one of the greatest bands in my generation!

When this came out I drove from Ohio to Chicago to see my mom. I played the disc over and over cause it captivated me so much. Before heading back I bought tix for Shinedown and Godsmack who would play the day following my birthday. Not only did I return bringing the girl who turned me on to Shinedown but my cousin and his wife joined us. Amazing show and one of the best days in my life.
I'm so grateful for this band. When I think of Us and Them and Leave A Whisper, and then think of Sound of Madness or Amaryllis... and then I think of Threat to Survival and ATTENTION ATTENTION. They've made it so far, guys, it's beautiful. Brent has changed SO much too

I have to say I LOVE shinedown, and the sound of madness has got to be my favorite song ever. I have read several persons negative opinions on the album, mostly attributed to the sound enhancements to Brett's voice. I have the same opinion, but a different conclusion. Yes, the shift towards computer generated vocals DOES cheapen the songs musical value, However this does Raise the meaning of the song; let me explain. Shinedown looks at the worlds movement towards technology and digital media as a negative thing, this was clearly depicted in the song the human radio. They are trying to show the lack of true meaning and art when one only focuses the digital world, and how much better it is when nature is not manipulated. My theory is this album was exaggerated in it's move towards digitizing everything to make fans (want the old shinedown back). Yes I think they are coming back. Also the songs are far more enjoyable when you listen to them with this light.
