    My recently retired gardener who is in his 80s now, has the silver dial non seamaster version bought in Switzerland in 1960! He paid £12 for it. He told me the story how he saw it in 1959 but couldn't afford it then, the following year he went to the same shop on another a skiing trip and didn't have enough money as it was now £16, £4 more than the previous year. The shop owner remembered him from the previous year and took pity and sold him that version cheaper at £12 as it was an older model and he wanted to move it on from his stock. Still on his wrist today after 60yrs and only serviced in the 1970s to his memory and a new aftermarket bracelet.

    How about the market value
    How much is the difference in price?
    The sea master is probably more desirable, if so by how much

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  5 лет назад +6

      The price of a watch will depends on the dealer, the condition, the warranty that will come with the watch, and authenticity of the watch. A non-Seamaster can cost more than a Seamaster and vice versa.

    @ 2:10, In regards to the example you've made of a Mercedes dealership charging more for an AMG version even though they have the same engine as the non-AMG. They actually do not have the same engine. AMG not only swapped the original engine for a larger tuned engine, but they also swapped the suspension and added exterior body parts such as a spoiler - and this is while producing a limited production. This is why an AMG always cost more. In this case, the dealer charges more because the name "seamaster" adds to the appearance of the dial as its an iconic name, just like how Constellations without the "certified..' are less desirable.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for sharing. But regarding Constellation without the words “officially certified,” it is still highly desired depending on the dial variation. For example, an early ref 14900 in full steel with an arrowhead pie pan dial is highly collectible. :)

  • @meoymeoy9405

    The non-seamaster is actually probablya rare Omega Tresor from probably after 1954. I just bought a vintage Omega Tresor 1954 with a black dial and a copy from the Omega Archives. The watch in the version I have seems to be very very rare. It has the 266 movement.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel

      Thank you for your message. Actually, the purpose of this video is to show you two almost identical watches. The non-Seamaster is not a Tresor. Tresor is under case model 2900. You can always follow me on Instagram or watch my other videos to understand better between model. :-)

    Great video! When both the Seamaster and non Seamaster were new. What were the difference besides the appearance? Any difference on water resistance (back then)?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  5 лет назад

      Thank you! Honestly, for the two example (black dials), there is no difference in water resistance wise. They take the same crystal, the same crown gasket, and the same case back gasket. The three areas to seal a watch.

  • @jamesmustin7289

    I have been wearing a 1938 Omega. It keeps extremely good time. It’s is a 23.4 movement. The dial is lovely
    The band is a cheap genuine leather brown band. I am having a black horween rally band made up for it with white thread. It should
    really look great. I wear my vintage Omega watches. My watch man is working on my 1929 silver cases watch. I had to send to Sweden to get the right part.

  • @Biblicalgiants

    So is a non seamaster less water resistant than a seamaster?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  Год назад +1

      That will depends on the non-Seamaster case. If the case does not take a gasket, it is not water resistant

    • @Biblicalgiants
      @Biblicalgiants Год назад +1

      @@TimelessHistoryChannel Oh ok. I have a 1965? 560 calibur KL6312 with a gasket but with Omega automatic only on the dial but I still try to keep it dry I guess. Thanks so much again!

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  Год назад +1

      @@Biblicalgiants KL reference is from the US collection. Their cases usually need to be sturdy, so ensure the case is in great shape, which is vital for moisture prevention. If I am correct, your watch case takes a gasket; however, the crystal on your watch probably takes a regular dome crystal without the extra metal tension ring. In that matter, make sure a tight-fitting crystal is installed. So if the crystal is the right fitting one, the case and crown gaskets are fresh, and you should not need to worry about washing your hands or out in the rain with the watch on. But like all vintage watches, it is not recommended to swim or shower with the watch on, regardless of whether it is a Seamaster.

    • @Biblicalgiants
      @Biblicalgiants Год назад +1

      @@TimelessHistoryChannel You're exactly right as far as I know. Actually my caseback seems to shred the gasket whenever the caseback is removed so I don't really trust getting it wet at all. But thank for your knowledge, help and your time again.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  Год назад +1

      @@Biblicalgiants: The gasket you mentioned is most likely the original one that came with the watch. The colour is greyish or clear, right? A more rigid plastic gasket will hold better to the back. It can't be easily removed since the thread on the case back also secures it. During a service, I will usually remove this old plastic gasket and fit a fresh black rubber one on for better sealing.

    Hello Sir. I'm confused, If these watches were both manufactured after 1948 and have the same caliber movement, Wouldnt they both be considered "Seamaster" even though the word isnt printed on one of those dials?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  3 года назад

      They are not the same case models. Omega made many different case models that take the same caliber or similar. It does not mean an Omega watch after 1948 will need to be a Seamaster either. 1948 only represent the first year when Omega introduced their Seamaster line.

  • @tjlee9901

    my handwind seamaster from the 1960's was gold plated with a white dial and stick hands , not dauphine hands . i think it was 35 or 36 mm in diameter . have you any idea when omega started using the stick hands as opposed to daughine hands ?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  3 года назад

      There are two types of stick hands. One is an actual stick hands which you can find even in 1940s and earlier watches. But what you are referring to sound like index type hands, which they may come plain, with black stripe in the center or with luminous. I would say Omega started introducing index hands in 1959 starting with their Seamaster Pre-Deville model. Manual wind would probably not until 1962 when the Seamaster 30 were introduced.

    How do you price an Omega Gold SeaMaster bought in 1986?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  4 года назад

      Unfortunately, 86 would be considered too modern for me. I only work on with models dating back to 1930s to 1970s. But you can always go on the Omega forums and ask for a quotation there.

    Hi, so if it can be a seamaster without saying 'seamaster'.. Can any of the bumpers be a Chronometer without saying Chronometer??

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  4 года назад +2

      Good question. Chronometer watch must say Chronometer on the dial since there is a difference between the movement. However, Vintage Chronometer or non-chronometer are considered the same quality in modern days. I can service a non-chronometer movement to run just as accurate as a chronometer movement. What we look for today is the quality of the movement to see how well preserve it is over so many decades.

      I own two one being a 1968 Seamaster Deville and the other a 1954 Seamaster and I remember when I bought my first vintage time piece I thought to myself this is to small but you really need to try one on and look at it on your wrist because I use to wear bigger sized watches but now I haven’t gone back. While wearing a watch that size you’ll notice they look pretty classy from afar and up close but it’s just a matter of getting used to the size difference from only using a certain size for so long.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  5 лет назад +2

      There are not many available in those sizes for a dress model. Usually anything that is over 40mm will most likely be a diver such as Seamaster 300 or something like a Speedmaster. A genuine 39-40mm Omega dress watch is very rare to find and most of what is available out there are fake or made up.

    There is one main difference between the two black dial Omegas: 1) The minute track position. This makes the minute hand look too big in the non Seamaster...
