    worked like a charm. needed this as i'm setting up bacula on my 3 VMs (windows server, oracle linux and macOS) to backup to the now mounted NAS datastore via NFS

    Thanks! I was ALMOST there, I think what I was doing wrong was using the host name, I put in the IP per your video and I'm up and running

    Thanks for this! I'm planning on setting up something like this within a few months. I currently have 3 physical ESXi servers. I'm planning on retiring 2 of them since they are old. My vision is to use my Synology as a NAS for my Plex server that I will run on the new ESXi host. My plan is to somehow migrate all data from the media drive I have on that old ESXi host to the Synology NAS. Then, I'll create a new Plex vm on the new host and have it point to the NAS. That's my thinking, so hopefully it works out.
    Its probably way overkill for what I really need it, but hey, I like to play around and tinker with this stuff.

    I used to use NFS between VMware ESXi and Synology but now I am using iSCSI.

    good video... but first i gotta upgrade my network.. slow transfers over 100Mbits Eithernet-Over-Power devices won't help me one bit..
    Does memory have to be 4Gig if its only mounting NFS share though?

    Could the NAS storage participate in a vSAN?
    If i have 3 nodes and 2NAS servers.
    Can i even use the NAS storage in the vSAN?

    Is it better to use NFS instead of iSCSI when connecting a Synology NAS a VMware Datastore?

    • @TechWithEmilio
      @TechWithEmilio  3 года назад +1

      Hi James, thanks for your comment. It depends on what you are wanting to use the NAS for. Both technologies will work fine. NFS will be available as a file share if you want to access it from another server, while iSCSI is block based. I would say if you are getting started go with NFS. Hope that helps
