      Sorry but this is extremely painful to watch. I feel like you are presenting to 3 year olds with all the hand waving and enunciation, not people capable of setting up VMs. If you are going to present IT related content then don't dumb it down so much. Several times you mention having a newer NAS but don't tell us what model you have. You say to use newer DSM software but don't tell us what you are running. You could have said something like I am running a DS1821+ with DSM 6.2.4 on it, you will need to upgrade your DSM version to something similar, instead of patronizing us and telling us nothing. Unfortunately I was looking for a quick overview guide to learn additional setup tricks. Unfortunately I can't watch this fluffing about all the way to the end, it is just too painful.

    I have a Windows 10 desktop that has an app which has now been discontinued and cannot be installed again on another machine. I'd like to future proof my ability to use that app for years to come. Can I make an ISO of my Windows desktop machine including that app and use that to create a virtual machine ?
    You really hit this one out of the park. Certainly you covered more details than most. I like to know more than just what button to push; I want to know why I'm pushing it and can that action be reversed. You tell me that. Well done.

    Hi! I am very new to the VM world. I'm using MacOs and want to be able to play games on it. So I created a Virtual Machine with Windows 8 installed on it.
    Now I'd like to know how can I add this particular machine to the ESXI so that I can use a passthrough and allow the Windows VM to use my GPU. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Works great so far on a DS 1821+... Windows Vista 32 entered the key then it recognizes the 80gb drive, i even can partition and format it, that's what i did.... to primary partition 1, but the it says the drive does not meet the recommendations for installation, and it also says the bios option for this drive may not be able to boot or something... i am stuck now....tried a smaller partition but it simply won't install ...

    If you already have Docker using a macvlan running then trying to start Virtual Machine manage will hose your Ethernet connection as there's a conflict with open vswitch, even deleting Virtual Machine manager still leaves the macvlan fubared, I maybe sometime

    I tried to install Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop, watched a lot of videos and tried every combination of BIOS, HD-Controller, USB, Network-Chipsets. I always end up crashing the VM, right when it comes to format the hard drives and start with the installation. And yes the VM-HD is on Btrfs. VMM never worked for me. (DS918+)

    Great video, thank you - very clearly explained! I'm thinking of getting this NAS in order to host a VM that will run my radio station - I'll want to remote into the VM daily from another location. How do you find performance of the Windows VM? Is there not too much slowdown? I ask because I saw another report that says this NAS, while it can run a Win VM, really struggles with it. Would you advise adding SSDs and more RAM? Many thanks - and keep up the great work!

      Hi Andrew, thanks for your comment. If you are intending to run a VM on the NAS, I would recommend boosting the NAS with additional RAM and yes SSD's. Although it can run VM's, there will be a small performance hit to your NAS when the VM is running hot and busy. Hope that helps.

    Sir is it possible to cut and paste from the Synology NAS VM to my Mac software? In other words, IF I want to cut information out of a data base on a virtual Win XP can I now paste that info into my Mac software?? I need to run bible software in XP and Mac architecture no longer supports XP virtualization.

    • @TechWithEmilio
      @TechWithEmilio  3 года назад

      Hi, thanks for the comment! Don't think this is possible, you are essentially consoling into the VM itself, but if you RDP into the Windows VM then this should be possible. Thumbs up on the bible software :)

    Running VM on Synology NAS is the worse for real world use. They are just not powerful enough. Try to find a docker container for anything you might need.
