- Since Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is just right around the corner, we wanted to catch up by reacting to the remastered PS5 cutscenes to the first Spider-Man game. When Yuri Lowenthal would record lines as Spider-Man, he would do 2 styles: one where he's doing a active, out of breath voice-- and a relaxed chilled voice.

One of the original reasons Peter started constantly running his mouth was he had a lot of nervous/scared energy and he masked it with the quiping. Then after he got more confidence in general he realized it messed with who he was fighting, and just kept it up. When they dropped Spidey in to CA: Civil War, I was so happy they both had him motor mouthing and someone giving him grief for it.

Man, I forgot how good this version of Octavius is. His relationship with Peter is so sweet.
An important line was skipped over during the second Shocker fight. Shocker gives Spidey a hint as to who he’s working for. He says he’s “not even sure these guys are human”, and that they “could be anything under those masks”. Spidey replies “Wait. Did you say masks?” This is meant to let us know he’s working for the Demons.
In the comics Herman Shultz AKA the Shocker was born in New York City. Herman Schultz's parents died when he was a boy. Herman dropped out of high school, intent on using his self-taught brilliance in the field of engineering for a fast payday. Schultz immediately fell into a life of crime, opting to pursue robbery, burglary, and safe-cracking as get-rich-quick endeavors. After one robbery gone wrong, Herman was arrested again, but was sent to the prison workshop, where he would use tools and parts found during his assigned work in the prison machine shop to covertly manufacture a weapon that could emit intense vibrational waves. Using his new toy to tear down a prison wall, Schultz escaped and after wearing a padded costume and mask designed to protect himself from the vibrations he created, anointed himself the Shocker. Modifying his weapon into a pair of gloves, Schultz would set his sights on stealing lots of cash and destroying safes and vaults with the click of his gauntlets. It was during this initial spree that he would encounter Spider-Man for the first time, notably defeating him in their introductory fight.

one of the unwritten rules in Spiderman mythos is to be very afraid of him if he's fighting you and "not" talking... because one of two things are happening
1) He's taking the fight 100% seriously and he's pissed
2) He's under some form of control.
Both are a major problem if you're on the receiving end because on a day to day basis, Spiderman holds back a LOT of his strength when fighting.
So all the talking you see him doing on a casual villain fight is very much on brand for him.
The one thing I will say that in the movie captain America civil war when fight the winter solider you could see a glimpse of that true power.

MJ is voiced by Laura Bailey, who Achara may recognize as Vex from Legend of Vox Machina and Supergirl from Injustice 2. Laura is married to Travis Willingham, who voices Kingpin in this game.

Cool to see you doing Injustice 2 then Spider-man. Both star Laura Bailey, as Supergirl and Mary Jane. She’s been getting a lot of high-quality work in games. She’s certainly earned it. She’s a superb actress.
One of the Most favorite Spider-man's Rogue's gallery or Supervillain for me is Shocker because this Marvel's Spider-man's Supervillain character knows how to create a technology or techie abilities that has similarities with Superpowered abilities. 👏👏👍👍💯💯💯
It was Stan Lee's very last cameo ever and one of his best in my opinion
This one really is *so* good. My favorite is probably Big Hero 6 though. I like how they took it a step further and made Stan himself into a superhero! You know, since he already is a real-life superhero.

This depiction of Peter and MJ is honestly tied with the MCU version for my favorite romance in all of Marvel.
And I especially love that she’s a reporter and not an actress/model. Not only does it make her more of a part of Peter’s life because their paths cross more often but she’s as clever, capable and has just as much heart as Zendaya’s version. And as a big bonus , she is NOT a damsel in distress.

MJ puts herself in danger multiple times without any plan and only gets out because plot armor made trained international mercs like Sable Agents as stupid as Assassin Creed guards.

Peters webs disolve after a while I think it's like 2 hours or something so he doesn't mess up the city with permanent webbing everywhere 😂

They are always wildly inconsistent about the dissolve time, or if they dissolve at all. As an example right in this game, the backpacks have been webbed up way more than a few hours.

48:38 they actually recorded 2 sets of voices for him. one for when he's swinging or fighting and one when he not doing any big actions (so just walking, perching). In the video they always going somewhere so you only hear the first one, but in game you can actually stop at any moment and Spider-Man will change his voice to more calm one

I love Peter and Mj in this game ♥️ This has to be my favorite depiction of their relationship so far . I just love the dialogue between them. It seems so realistic and it's so cute at the same time, they have amazing chemistry in this game

Nope. She wanders in heavily guarded camps, Every single she says and does is absolutely cringey and annoying. It's like she needs your help but then gets pissed and acts like she could of done this on her own with her amazing freelance powers and her amazing pretending to be on the phone power. @@Agent-57 I always find these criticism’s interesting when it comes to MJ because I didn’t see anything of what you detail.
Regarding MJ in the main game, it’s never that she doesn’t want Spider-Man to rescue her. If she didn’t the scene at Oscorp would never have happened, which is a GREAT scene and shows how much she trusts Peter. It’s that she wants to work WITH him, and Peter keeps shooting it down telling her to stay home which makes her feel useless. She feels there are things she can help him with to keep him a bit safer. She is just as scared for Peter as he is for her. And yes he has powers, but those powers don’t preclude him from getting hurt or dying. So for me, the whole MJ arc REALLY works and culminates in some great moments.
I will agree that not all the stealth missions make sense though. For either of the characters that do them. They are sometimes weird stretches to mix up the pace. But I think the majority of them do.
And then regarding Black Cat, I am not sure what you are talking about at all. I actually thought they were going to do what you describe, the typical jealous girlfriend reaction, but they don’t. She is surprisingly cool about learning about him and Black Cat as well as the other aspect to their relationship. Yeah she has to take a minute when she finds out. But after that she realizes other things matter and still fully supports Peter the rest of the game.
So yeah, I get it if the writing just didn’t work for you. That always sucks. But you shouldn’t call out people that the writing did work for either. I mostly agree with the OP. While maybe not my favorite MJ depiction, I do think it is a pretty great one. As well as their relationship issues and how loved ones have to deal with a superhero.
On a randomly hilarious note. I actually didn’t like the Gwen Stacy involving herself in Spider-Man action from the movies. The writing there didn’t work for me. Haha But glad it worked for you!
Depending on continuity, Peter's parents where SHEILD agents that where murdered and their deaths were made to look like an automobile accident. Otherwise, the circumstances were inconsequential.
They weren't really inconsequential in the Garfield movies. More Richard than Mary, but they definitely weren't inconsequential.
@@inarar5334 The trailer was really misleading. But I get what you are saying. but like I said it depends on which continuity. If AS-M was part of the MCU having the Parkers SHIELD agents killed by Hydra prior to Winter Solider and possibly having them in a very minor role in Agents of SHIELD. Well I guess that would have made too much since.
I could see it being incorporated into the mcu for future movies if Peter wanted to know more about his parents. It makes sense since shield and hydra exist in the mcu.

Once you are fimifhed with this game I really recommend also watching the cutscenes of the games Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man Edge of Time to get to know more of the Spider-Men from different worlds and to also learn more villains and characters in general in the Marvel universe.

This game seems to be sweet vibes to watch these cutscenes again but in the remastered/Updated version for the PS5 version as it seems nice and relaxing. 😌 Also is it just me or they didn’t notice the building at the background at 28:32 as the building had a giant “A” glowing for some reason.

If you liked Spiderman in terms of its cinematic story quality in game, it would be a great idea to look into more of the Sony Playstation 1st party line up as that is one of their key themes when developing many of their games.
Other games that can work in this would be
Horizon Zero Dawn (One of the best mystery narratives in a game imho, the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West was a visual showpiece but I still liked HZD's story because there was a lot more intrigue)
God of War 2018 & God of War Ragnarok (tbh, you'd probably need to watch a recap of God of War 1 - 3 before hand to learn the context of the story)
Ghosts of Tsushima (Sequel is in the works)
Days Gone (people would argue it's kinda similar to The Last of Us... but the character relations are arguably a little more compelling)
...
The last of Us.... well you guys technically already reacted to the show I believe... so I wouldn't really recommend that one.

I'll probably get dragged for saying this, but I think Insomniac's Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man "movie" in the franchise, despite not being an actual movie.
I miss the original look of Peter.
Still can't get used to this new Peter. Maybe with the release of Spider-Man 2. He just looks so dang young.

I'm really glad you guys are diving into more character accurate adaptations of Spider-Man because a lot of people who have never read Spider-Man comics often mistakenly compare a lot of adaptations to the Sam Raimi movies despite the fact that those movies take a lot of deviations from the comics about the characters. As someone who has read Spider-Man comics since I was a kid, I never really cared for Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Even when I was a kid I never saw him as my definitive Peter Parker. Even when I was a kid I growing up reading comics I never saw him as my definitive Peter Parker. He's really too meek and wimpy and that is supposed to be Peter's personality at first, but he never really gets over it in these movies. Especially when he is Spider-Man he really doesn't portray Spider-Man's iconic sarcasm and quippy personality well at all.
I havent read the comics would you say that the comics spiderman is more like a Tobey and Andrew mix or not?😅
@@kingtbk9620 There's certain elements that each one adapts better than the other but overall I wouldn't say either one is terribly close to true Spider-Man. In terms of the actors though I will say that to this day there has not been a live-action Spider-Man other than Andrew Garfield whose voice actually makes me think of the character's speech bubbles in the comics like he did.

I have to be honest, as much of an incredible job Insomniac did with this game and the characters, Mary Jane was one character I was not a big fan of how they handled. I don't understand why so many adaptations nowadays try to not have MJ be a model/actress as if there's something wrong with that. The idea of Mary Jane wanting to be a reporter is something they clearly took inspiration from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon along with many other inspirations like Electro wanting to become "pure energy" and more. It's a shame because Laura Bailey does do a great job as always but the character just I just found that version of the character to be overly preachy and annoying. Really I don't think Mary Jane has ever been adapted great. I will say that she is definitely better than the version from the Sam Raimi movies because that Mary Jane was just terrible.
I understand what you’re saying. For this game if Mary Jane was a model actress, how would you have her involved in the story? How would you have her and Peter interact and be able to do sneak missions with her as a model actress?
@@powerpanda557 I mean those missions with Mary Jane were the most hated part about the game everyone keeps saying that they don't want anything like that for the second game.
@@powerpanda557 As a model/actress, I'd prolly have her be one successful enough that has access to higher echelons of society, where she can mingle and overhear conversations between important people at parties for example and analyze how that effects things down on the ground so Spider-Man can prepare himself. She could also get Peter access to those places, so he could do his own investigation.
If she became a prominent enough figure in society, she could have an influence on politics (something we see from a lot of celebrities) and network so she could hear things in general from all sorts of people. And they could use that to allow MJ to have an influence on Osborn since he's mayor.
And Osborn could allow that due to MJ's influence as a celebrity, but also due to her relationship with Peter, someone that Osborn does want to win over 'cos of Peter's brilliant mind and his friendship with Harry. So that would also be a way to allow her access city hall, affect some of Osborn's actions to a certain extent, but more importantly give Peter a head's up on things.
@@zuriyel5368 Like, there are always ways for stories to work if you want them to but that's where the talent comes in to make it work well and I thought they did really well with a lot of the writing in this game. Lois Lane style reporter girlfriend is just an easy way to do it but eh, if all girlfriends keep becoming reporters than what's the fun?
