    The stock rail is a Weaver rail. But Weaver system allows for variable spacing between groves and large gaps between grooves. Picatinny is Mil-Spec and no gaps are allowed.

    Some good information on different scopes mounts, thanks for the review. I understand the modification for the bolt release, but, if you understand that the "switch" to release the bolt acts like a "rocker switch" then it functions as designed every time.

      I did modify it and it has been great since. Thanks.

    Finally got to the range with this setup. Initially, I was referencing a Burris boresighter. When I put rounds rounds through it, it was dead on. I'm a bit of a newbie so I learned my lesson concerning those bore sighters. I didn't think that there would be that much of a difference between the crosshairs and the bore sight but I guess there is. Thanks again for the post. Great video.

      You are most welcome. Glad you got it zeroed and working as it should. Thank you for watching and commenting. What do you think about the scope so far?

    • @MrSmashbrown
      @MrSmashbrown 10 лет назад +2

      oh man. I was skeptical because I was really looking to put a Nikon or some other well known brand on the 10/22TD but with all the features and a little Amazon credit, I went with the UTG. I was not disappointed. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone not looking to spend more on a scope than they paid for the actual firearm!

      MrSmashbrown I agree. It is a great value. You get a ton of scope for your money and it works great. Thanks for the feedback.

    Good review and informational video. I had this same scope mounted on mine. It is a fine scope; but I usually shoot it at 25 yards or less.
    So I opted to sell the scope and installed a Holosun 2moa "green" dot. I also installed the same Holosun on my MK IV (HE403GL-GR Elite)
    I also switched the stock to the Magpul Backpacker with optic mount. It mount's to the barrel so it stays dialed in even after multiple takedown's.

    Would you possibly do a quick video on the scope mounted on your 10/22 and show how it fits in the Ruger Bag. Thanks for the great review. I'm ninety nine percent sure I'm going to order the same set up for my takedown. Would just like to see it really fit in the bag.

    Why not use highier rings instead of the riser?

    Thanks for the review. I just placed an order for the UTG rail. I found out quickly that the bug buster aint going on my takedown with the factory rail. Lol. Kind of silly the way Ruger designed the slots on their rail.

    @Gordy M The QD rings came with the scope when I bought from Amazon amzn.to/1snlQsC. These are the rings by themselves at Amazon UTG Max Strength LE Grade Quick Detach Picatinny Scope Rings (2 Piece, 1-Inch Diam, 4-Screw Med Profile) amzn.to/1xZC7se

      ***** Unfortunately I can not see the iron sights through the UTG rail. Thanks

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  9 лет назад +1

      ***** The first rail I used was the UTG .22 Tactical Low Profile Rail Mount @1 it's good rail and it will give you a limited sight picture (but you will get one). Unfortunately barrel mounted sights are very low in comparison to the receiver height on the 10/22. I bought another "low profile" rail from Archangel only to find out the dimensions were slightly larger without a channel down the center like the UTG. I think I will do a comparison review on them. Thanks

    Thanks for the review. Not what I was looking for, but still good info. What a want is a quick detach system that allows see-thru capability for quick up close shooting when there is not enough time to take the scope off no matter how fast it can be taken off.

      If you get the same scope that he has in the video (the Bug Buster) you can actually correct parallax on it all the way down to 3 yards (and all the way out past 200 yards). In that case, you'd throw it up to your eye and use it just like iron sights. In theory anyway...I guess you lose peripheral vision though...

    I got my UTG Bug Buster mounted on my standard Ruger mounts but it was a tight fit. Only goes on there one way, and a Picatinny rail is a better option. But you can use the standard rail and it all fits in my Ruger takedown bag.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  8 лет назад +1

      Cool. I am sure you had to adjust the rings just right to get it to fit. Personally I like being able to mount it further back to get the right eye relief. Thanks for the info.

    Thanks for the video. I'm considering this scope for my 10/22 as well. I found the Owner's Manual online and it says that the BDC markings on the reticles are calibrated for .223/5.56 caliber, so if I mount this on my 10/22 does that mean that I won't be able to use the BDC markings on the reticle due to the vastly different trajectory between these two calibers?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  2 года назад +1

      I sight it for my rifle and it works great but you need to learn how to adjust for the caliber and even the ammunition as the trajectory changes with different ammo even with the same caliber. You could buy a scope that is matched to your caliber but my bet is that it cost much more than this scope. The trick is to change as little parameters as possible. Fire, ready, aim. Thank you so much for commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

    Hey Richard. Thank you for the outstanding review. I have the 10/22 takedown model too and I have been looking for a compact scope that would still allow me to put the rifle into the bag. I have a Leapers UTG CQB scope on my AR-15 and I really like that scope, so I will be ordering another scope soon. Thanks again and have a great day.

    Did you have any problems zeroing this in on the high riser mount? I have the same set up and when I was done and tried to bore sight the scope in, I ran out of adjustments.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  10 лет назад +1

      I did not have that problem. Which base rail did you use and is it sitting flush? Make sure everything is mounting flush as well. Sometimes it will lock down but not correctly. If all else fails get a fine ruler, I use a stainless steel ruler, and measure the height of the rails on the front and back and also on the right and left side. It may be that you have a defect in one of the rails. Please tell me what you find. Thanks

    Have you tried Your factory Mount? I have trouble seeing my iron sights with it .

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  10 лет назад +1

      I found it pretty well useless because of how the slots were cut in it. The finish on mine was also not the nicest. So it did not look good on the gun and it was not functional with my scope. Thanks

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  10 лет назад +1

      Sorry, I missed your concern here. I have a picatiny rail on it right now. The factory rail was not designed to let you use the iron sites unfortunately and even my rail that has a center cut in it, only lets you see just the top of the iron sights which is good enough to get a proper sight picture but it's hard to acquire it. I have a new rail on order that I am going to test to see if it solves the problem from Amazon: amzn.to/1BRXqzf The reviews say it does solve the problem but I only go with first hand experience. My thought is that Ruger is of the belief that if you mount the rail that means you are only going to use a scope to aim the gun.

    +Richard Lloyd 1) What brand scope caps did you use? 2) Sizes? 3) With the knurling/ribs that surrounds the objective, do you feel the caps are still weather-tight?...or does moisture get in?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  8 лет назад

      These are the caps that come with the scope. I would say they are weather resistant and they do snap shut. I found the rear cap to be a bit loose but I fixed that by using some electrical tape around the scope focus ring. I know this is a cheap fix for the time being I think some shrink tubing would do a better job. I have no idea where you would get after market flip caps but the ones that came with this scope are pretty good. Also note that the scope is completely Sealed and Nitrogen Filled, Shockproof, Fog proof and Rainproof. Thanks

    I can't seem to find the RUclips video again, but I watched a very good shooting experiment by a guy demonstrating his (not a ruger takedown) rifle's INABILITY to return to zero after removing/re-installing his scope with varied rail mounts/quick disconnect mounts. It was very well done. Granted, not every shooter will worry about driving nails with each shot.... but it can still mess with your head. Can you imagine a similar experiment with the 10/22 takedown? Factor in the rifle breakdown each shooting, Uggh... Think about it. There's a reason Ruger placed the rear sights on the forward barrel section. I have seen examples of forward mounted scopes on the 10/22, but mounting is a problem, and awkward looking. My plans for a scope are on hold for now. In frustration, I bought the Lazermax that is made for the Ruger 10/22. It works well, and blends in very nicely to the forestock. I know the first time the battery runs out of juice I will be cursing it :)

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  10 лет назад +3

      I am not having an issue with zero. The 10/22 takedown has an ring on the reciever around the slot where the barrel slides in that adjusts the tightness of the barrel fit. I adjust mine to two clicks before you can no longer join the receiver and the barrel. This is makes for a very stiff and snug fit with no percievable movement at all on the barrel. I think that helps greatly in accuracy and feels great when you are putting it together.
      I am not really keen on laser sights. I have an internal argument with where I struggle between the advantages of a laser sight and the dissadvantages. The laser sight can give away your position and allowis the target to know that it is being targeted. Plus a scope I would think would be much easier to adjust.

    • @alexgottmituns7049
      @alexgottmituns7049 9 лет назад

      Guy Burnett Ruger 10/22 TDT, 3-9x40 scope always returns to Zero after barrel re-assembly. That is a non issue.
      That said, I can ponder the possibility of a scope attached to a quick disconnect mount, not returning to zero.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  9 лет назад +1

      Alex GottmitUns I have not had an issue with that on my scope. The QD clips fit very well on theUTG .22 Tactical Low Profile Rail Mount (I prefer using this). You can adjust the tightness on the QD locks to your preference. If you miss mate the QD with the rail the locks will not engage so you will know you don't have it mated right so that is not a factor. I am very pleased with this gun and scope arrangement. Also the scope fits in the bag on the receiver so I don't feel the need to take off once it is on. The QD's are nice to have but I rarely use the feature. Thanks
