As someone who has worked for a detail shop, pre-wash is a must. pre wash picks up any large particles that will scratch the paint when using a microfiber towel. This test is not perfect but enough to show the difference and its importance.

Pre wash or foam loosens the dirt and acts as a lubricant between the paint and the dirt. So that when you use your pressure washer to rinse it off you don't scratch the paint. If you use a pressure washer without lubricating the paint you're literally pushing the dirt into the paint at 1500 or more psi causing fine scratches.

How to actually do this test properly: Moisturize one side with an equal amount of warm water and use regular car shampoo on the other side, , let both sides be moist for an equal time, then rinse and compare the results to what pre-washing does.
Pure moisture will not not dissolve dirt. That is a plain fact. But it is good for demonstration purposes.
However, regular car shampoo will dissolve and loosen up the dirt, helping it rinse off of the paint.
The reason why proper pre-wash is ideal, is because it gets rid of the iron, oil and tar that can form on the car along with the dirt.
So yes, pre-wash is always a must for proper cleaning.

I think the most interesting idea is that not introducing more water to the solution might be beneficial provided that you have enough solution to cover the car. Perhaps some kind of contraption hooked up to an air compressor to avoid having to pump and get a consistent dispersal over the vehicle as compared to the typical foam cannon which seems quite wasteful of the cleaning chemicals.

hmmm...so one side had a detergent and the other only got water...amazing that the dirt fell off the side with the detergent. Afairer test would have been to use a high pressuer washer that dispensed soap on the other side. Then you would have had a true pre-rinse vs no pre-rinse comparison. Of course the detergent side is going to work better than plain water, that's common sense.

    • @rflood

Detergent and soap are synonymous. What are you getting at? What kind of soap would you put on the right had side?

    • @ricmndy1
      @ricmndy1 6 месяцев назад +6

@@rflood you missed the entire point. I know detergent and soap are interchangeable. It's the fact one side has has soap and the other side only got water. Of course the side with soap is going to clean better. The point was you can't just say pre-washing works when it's quite possible that the right hand side would be just as clean if you had "soap" running through the pressure washer along with the water. A damn kindergartner can tell you that using soap vs just water that the water is going to lose.

I feel like, people saying "you should rise the other side more" have a point, but only a small point and are maybe missing the point in a "pre wash"
Your demonstration actually did an amazing job to show why a prewash is useful. You used less water, since you didn't need to do the "extra wash", its less effort, because you can spray on your prewash, then go and collect up the other stuff you need/forgot to get.
This showed perfectly how it loosens the dirt and helps renove it with less effort.
Another way to look at a prewash, is like soaking your dishes.
Take a super dirty dish, lets say you left it out overnight and the food has dried on. (This is your dirty car) now you have two options, you can either soak it in some nice hot soapy water for 5 minutes (thats your prewash) or you can put it in the same hot soapy water, and start scrubbing. They both will have the same outcome, a clean dish. But one will take alot more effort.

It would make more sense to soak 1 half with prewash and soak the 2 half with only water.
Because in your test, the question should be "is soaking dirt before rinsing is worth it?" It doesn't compare the product with only water

Since the comparison is kind of off the point.
Use prewash on one side, and normal shampoo on the other side then rinse to see the difference.

The best way is to get it wet with low pressure water, than foam, and then wash it all with high pressure

Do NOT pre wash your car if it's in a similar condition like this video!!! You go straight to rubbing it with a mitten! The end result is amazing and you have just got yourself the pest prep work for a paint job money can buy 👍

    It depends!
After having a car for a while you can know which parts of your car don't get clean in a car wash of your choice. So - giving these parts some extra care before entering the car wash makes sense for getting everything clean. 😉

Most of that dirt could come off with a garden hose lol yes pre wash helps with some kinds of dirt but not loose stuff on the top like in the video
