i wanted to pick up oil pastels again after putting them down during high school, and was starting to get discouraged until i found this video. this was so comprehensive and direct, and talked about all the most useful stuff i needed to know, i wish this style of video was available for all types of medium
Hi! I'm in the same boat! Was a pretty good budding artist and thought it would be my avocation, but I went with the piano instead. As I remember, just keep trying and experimenting, never give up! And thanks to the internet age, we now have excellent videos like this to guide us along!
I really love this kind of videos. This has the basic information I needed about oil pastel without the introduction and unnecessary talking that some youtubers do. Thank you
That was the BEST five minutes in concrete and cogent information. You knocked it out of the park. Thanks for offering such great insight, you have great delivery.
Glad it was helpful! :oD I tried to do the same with acrylic paint if ever you're curious ► ruclips.net/video/6sEhgEdpfL0/видео.html Have a great weekend ahead!
I was gifted a very large set of oil pastels 5 years ago. I never tried them. My medium of choice is watercolors and pen and wash. I just took them out yesterday and decided I should try this set of 100!! Thank you for your helpful tips. I cant wait to play with my oil pastels.
This helped me so much I always have oil pastel lying around and had no idea what to do with them until now thank you very much for your video I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
This was exactly as advertised! Great video. I was looking for something like this because I bought some oil pastels at the dollar store and was excited to try them. I now believe they are wax crayons. I’m going to try them any way, 😁
Great video! I tried my Gallery yesterday after making a mess dropping them cause the Amazon enveloppe was not sealed properly, I quickly put them back into the tray, then I realized later ,that because I did not put them in the original place itt was making such a mess I had to take them all off clean the tray ,clean them individually cause they picked-up other colors ! My God these these need to be handle carefully! I managed to make a first painting , I actually like them they blend very well with my fingers, but it can be pretty messy medium ! lol! I used Canson XL Multi media which is pretty Great paper to practice ! I love your Madonna! Thank you so much for your advices!💐
I just got into painting recently and I’m alright ish. But we bought some oil pastels on a whim and after watching this I think I’m going to enjoy them!
I'm getting back into art after decades of hardly drawing or painting anything. Oil pastels are a new medium for me - I used mostly pens, markers or pencils years ago - so I had no clue how to use them properly. I have the Pentel 50 set, it was the one that caught my eye on Amazon, so I have a great start in that way. Thank you so much for your tips! I'm happily subscribed and I can't wait to learn more from you!
I am totally "artless" /horrible with art but I'd love to give it a try. A toddler might even have better results than me but hey, this video surely helps a lot! Thank you, thank you, thank you! ♥️😇🙏
Thank you, you've taught me I've got the right idea and given me a new thought, of using liquid paper for light reflections. I'm pretty excited to try it :)
I’m writing a book on art through the eyes of someone on the spectrum and your channel really helps with getting information on different art supplies ❤
Thank you for making this video I am a oil pastel beginner and I was trying to find a lot in days but I never came across this one which was the best and now I made some paintings so thanks you😁
Wow, amazing video! I was looking for a video just like this because I got some oil pastels for Christmas and I wasn't sure how to use them. This video has definitely been helpful to me. You earned a new subscriber!
This is my favourite video that you ever done Syndia, thank you so much for your tips and tricks! I am a very big fan of you! You know something concerning this video, I’m listening it quite often yet, bc it’s remembering me you advices, since I am knowing you as professional with oil pastels! By the way, thank you for your last sendings in my emails yesterday Sunday, 7th February 2021!
Loving your tutorials as I am new to this medium. Would love to see more projects - your techniques, ideas and instruction is really motivating. Please keep going 👏👍😁
Thank you so much for this video. I was using soft pastels before and just switched to oil pastels and this video helps me start more intelligently instead of my usual way of just guessing my way through something. By the way my youtube channel doesnt have any art on it because Ive been a musician most of my life and just began art 2 years ago.
Hello! New friend here. I just used some oil pastels I've had for awhile and realized I knew nothing about them- so I found your channel and I'm looking forward to learning all about using them! 💖
Thanks for your kind words. I have a few oil pastel sets to review. I will definitely make a note of your suggestion. Happy New Year!! Wishing you loads of inspiration in 2019 :)
Syndia it is so good that I found you. I love oil pastels and have experimented with it. But an artist is always learning more and more!!! I find your tips VERY true. Yes, you are correct. Well, I messed with a top coat, I tried a gloss for acrylic/oil medium but it was supposed for canvas, not for paper....you can imagine. But we can ever ever ever try again and do more! Hope to see more of your videos!!! Ciao!
I'm really glad it helped! I have a bunch of oil pastel inspiration ideas... Here is a playlist if you're curious. Have a great weekend :o) ruclips.net/video/AvIFE2atmFM/видео.html
Syndia can you pls do a review about Camel/Camlin kokuyo Oil Pastels it's really good especially when you use fingers or tissue. You can make galaxies using it.
Very good. I'm learning about pastels. I've never used them before. I like the way you quickly touched on important things to know. I try to do that with my videos (keep them short), because people have short attention spans. Explain it in as few words as possible.
Any tips for us lefties? I generally try starting from right to left (which makes perfect sense), but are there other ways besides using a sheet of paper to cover the hand on the surface? I'm wondering about using a thin rubber glove, but that probably will smudge things. Great, instructive video and I will follow you and watch more presentations! Thanks!
Thanks! I've been working on doing just that and also have been trying to work top to bottom and right to left. It's getting more automatic for me with practice.
Is there a particular type of, say, walnut oil that works better than others or is recommended more? A lot of the ones to buy from an online search are ones meant for culinary uses and some of the price differences are huge. I would be interested to see, as I'm just starting out trying oil pastels.
i bought the pentel oil pastels you said to buy. i might have messed up by painting the canvas black but i read online you could do that. every time i tri to blend, it just kinda wipes the oil pastel off the canvas. no matter how much i add. please any suggestions?
Either Sennelier Oil Pastel Spray or Krylon UV Archival Varnish. But I wait 2 weeks before spraying it so that the oil pastel sets and hardens a bit. Hope it helps.
We had to use oil pastels this week in art class to line our watercolor paintings and i was getting really frustrated because it wouldn't blend out properly and it looked agitating and irritated my fingers. Worked better with paper towel but it was still god awful to work with and i thought i was bad at them (maybe I still am as I don't use thrm much and honestly I'm better working with controlled, thin lines instead) but the paper we used was low quality copy/bristol paper so that's why it turned out awfully. Hopefully the next time i use them I'll have better paper.
Hi Syndia. You make wonderful art 👍🏻 I have some questions about oil pastels: Want to blend oil pastels with walnut oil. Does it harden out? I have the big set of Mungyo gallery. I wonder if lightfastness is as good as the Caran Dache Neopastel?
i ran out of white oil pastel, do you think if white china marker would blend well with it? that's the substitute i can think of, i don't want to buy an entire box of oil pastel it's too expensive 😭
I made a video about blending. You can watch it here ruclips.net/video/SYlngmVD-b0/видео.html (I will make a video using only dollar store art products in the new year!)
Syndia. I just found your channel. I am so happy. I want to paint a portrait of my crush using oil pastel. And give it to her as a present on christmas day. Your video will definitely help. I hope to learn more from you. More power. Thanks. 😊😊😊😊😊😍😍😍😍😍😄😄😄😄😄🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
i see a lot of vids where ppl use colour pencils on oil pastels! i ve tried it many times but my colour pencil never shows and jsut scraps the pastel off! whys that?

Syndia...would like to try these, but are they safe to blend with your fingers?
Syndia can you pls do a review about Camel/Camlin kokuyo Oil Pastels it's really good especially when you use fingers or tissue. You can make galaxies using it.
I tried to order them from India because they don't have them in Canada but it's been months and I never received them.
Great informative video! Thank you!

You mean the flower? ruclips.net/video/yuQgIEMKtvI/видео.html
Thank you for the informative video. :) What do you use to seal your finished oil pastel artwork?
Either Sennelier Oil Pastel Spray or Krylon UV Archival Varnish. But I wait 2 weeks before spraying it so that the oil pastel sets and hardens a bit. Hope it helps.
You done the best

Syndia Art thank you so much! I just started oil pastel painting and your videos already helps me a lot❤️❤️
Hi Syndia. You make wonderful art 👍🏻
I have some questions about oil pastels:
Want to blend oil pastels with walnut oil. Does it harden out?
I have the big set of Mungyo gallery. I wonder if lightfastness is as good as the Caran Dache Neopastel?
It does harden but might yellow a bit. As far as lightfastness, they don't say that it is. Personally I haven't noticed any change to the colors.
Can you tell me how to work from dark to light with oil pastels
I'm so excited
To drawing
Ahahahahaha
I love your colors
It's so esy
Mungyo, awesome!
This video is suppppeerrr helpful
