If you want runes, go to mohgs place, go the palace approach, ledge-road grace. Make a build for sacred relic sword, blasphemous blade, ruins greatsword, etc. Anything with big aoe.

did you have to respec to do this? I don't have nearly enough stats to use all this stuff. I am actually doing the jumping puzzle to get the shield, anyway, but I have a feeling I'm going to need to respec.
For those wondering the weapon he is using is the Pike and it has the seppukku blood ash of war and it is recommended to find the Two headed turtle that is in the shadow of the erdtree map. If you really want the Two headed stamina turtle you have to google or RUclips it because I can’t recall the location. Good luck.

Another advise; the Fingerprint Shield has no skill aow.
If you equip raw meat dumpling, your mimic tear can heal itself infinitely and it CAN'T suffer poison, but it will do this at some inopportune times.
He can use the marika healing potion i think too.

Could you tell me what you used to beat him?? I got him till phase 2 but then died cause his flame chips away your health
@@CastTerror5 for spirit summon, I used black knife tiche, (who helps a ton with taking aggro) and I think I was wearing the solitude armor set, (which probs doesn’t matter much, just use high fire resistance armor), and I was using dual nagikabas. Hope this helps!

this boss is insane i’ve had no troubles with any of the other ones but even with this strat i’ve tried like 50 damn times and still haven’t beat him

Hand of malenia and the fingerprint shield are the best way to slay that messmer whimp. The damage of the blade is to much for him and the blood loss is insane👌
If you go by the edge of the map when he does the two snakes that go insane attack during his second phase, he’ll crash into the other side of the railing and fall off the edge lol

I just spammed swarm of flies and it worked. The snakes are janky but once you figure out the hit box it’s not horrendous

Tyrannicon = legend. Strategy still works after 1.12.3 update. Upgrade the Fingerprint Stone Shield (extra guard boost helps) and do whatever you can to upgrade stamina. Stay kinda close to avoid him using his grab attack but remember you need to back out if he uses the attack where spears come from the ground.
Just step into the boss arena... that's how you easily defeat him. If you use summons & the fingerprint shield, he is very simple. And just make sure to have that shield up. Falling Star beast weapon and a high intelligence/FP. It's amazing how many times you can use that following star beast weapon without running out of FP. Worked on Malenia too. That second phase you got to make sure that her aggression bounces back and forth between you and your summons. It's much harder for her to get her health up if you're making her bounce back and forth. And before she starts attack you put the fingerprint shield up.
Great prep suggestion - added Golden Vow and Flame Protect Me to the pre-entrance buff routine... worked awesome!
This is not even a cheese. Just good strategy.
And worked for me first time and I forgot to use the blood boil aroimatic and had no sheild buff.

Dude first I need to say thank you again for all the help your videos have given me through Elden Ring, DS3, Sekiro, and Bloodborne. Not everything could be applicable to my play/game/particular boss fight but a lot of it did and even the videos that couldnt resuIt in immediately applicable tips were entertaining and provided much needed creative strategy inspiration. I got to this battle unexpectedly (I thought the small door next to the suspiscious big ass door was it, I wasnt expecting the regular plain door up a small stairway).
Anyway I just got through this dude after like a half hour just slamming my head against the against the wall figuring out the dodge timing for that first 10-20 seconds (fkn diving spear then exploding the ground and this mf then chases you down to toss you into the air and shanks your ass for instakill assuming you already took any damage or didnt get off a buff or 2 before/at the start). I probably died like 30-50 times in that half hour. I had many less than 10 second rounds from start of battle to death just seeing wtf this dude would let me get off/away with at the start and how to dodge out and distance after. I donno if it'll help anyone but what ended up working for me was to not bother with the ash summon at the start, instead immediately run towards the Hornsent summon logo, land on it and press that command to bring him in as fast/accurate as you can get it (I whiffed a bunch of times). If your timing is good after this, you should be able to roll out the diving attack with the explosion but I found that Id get hit by one part pretty often, like dodging out both wasnt consistent. I was dodging away both times to make distance though while every other vid seems like they do the second dodge into the explosion to attack. Basically I was trying to make distance and dodge/heal till his aggro switched for a few seconds so I could ash summon and heal before Messmer caught me acting out. The camera was always dodgy here and he will pretty much always chase you down and not go after the Hornsent at first. Dodge/heal through a few combos till the calm in the storm comes for a short period and he goes after Hornsent then get off your summon and heal/refill FP. This part probably somewhat easier if you put some buffing items on before entering the fog but Im stingy as hell so I didnt utilize that. Then bust the JJK mobbing technique but keep on your toes cause after you hit Messmer twice he gonna immediately put his aggro on you so be smart/patient/something. The playthrough I used to access the DLC area was a sorcery build which was a new style for me, but with some enemies like the fire golems it felt like I needed something else even tho the sorcery was getting work done 95% of situations. Dark Moon Greatsword kept getting slotted for niche tasks to the point I felt bad keeping it at +9 to save the dragon stones on something else thst after the win I gave it the +10 upgrade it deserved. Oh yeah if youre in a similar situation as me like with the sorcery build but you gonna use an intelligance scaling melee, move most of your flasks to HP for survival. Helped me,.might help you.
Anyway I'm just drunk ranting cause I'm stoked on the win, but really I just want to point out how sick and mad creative your build and strategy you came up for this fight was. The last few vids I watched were like "memorize these 3+ attack combos and execute this specific sequence of dodges in perfect timing and exploit the attack window that might be there after." How fun that must be, like "yo just memorize and play almost perfect for a bit." 😐 But you, Sekiro Guro, be cooking up some devious work and its a joy to see this novel ideas. Ive done no summon runs trying to reach some idea of near perfection thinking Im gonna get Ultra Instinct or some shit. Nah just stress and time off your life lol. Im mad glazing but I wanna play like you. Keep cooking 💯

A Blood Antspur Rapier with Bloody Slash ash of war, does quicker kill, rot and bleed.
Tip if you haven't opened the door, do all the steps as if the fog gate was there, you go right into the fight.
The problem with this boss is the fire block the view so you can't see the move he's about to do to react to it
I got lucky once and dropped his first form with the Moonlight greatsword-- in 9 seconds. Yeah, I am never getting that lucky again.
This is actually a superb strat to defeat him, i used a bit of my own stuff mixed with the tips from this video, he went down fast.

Amazing video. Got him 2nd try. Used the Great black shield as I did not have the fingerprint stone shield and didn't use all the spells like you. Pike + Blood loss and hiding behind my shield for all the crazy combos made this fight easy. Thank you!

You inspired me to change my strategy although I used a different kind of spear.. poking weapon but the shield thing helped but I didn't use that shield just one I had and Radahns armor not the helmet or bracers otherwise I would be heavy. I finally beat Messmer with a inspired bleed poking build. 😊💜 I had to be a bit of a tank along with the mimic and just patiently bleed him. 💜

I switched out the spear for bloodhounds fang and worked first try. Was able to block while mimic destroyed him

I waited to play the DLC Until I got all the cheese tactics from the Guru. The Guru's amazing powers helped me through Sekiro, so I know they work.
Messmer says the same thing Gwyndolyn says when he dies. Gwyndolyn is from dark souls 1

I tanked it with fingerprint, but used the dragons rot imcantation.
So me and mimic Got rot up, then rest of fight hold Block 😂
Cheesed with cold nagakiba+25 (frost build up 105) with double slash aow.
He's super weak to frost, more so than bleed.
Mimic with shabriris woe (which didnt seem to work?) And meat dumpling.
Summoned Hornset.
They pretty much solo him, i got maybe 3 double slash hits on him.
Killed first try. Dies pretty fast, maybe 2 minutes. Im on NG+3
I lost it at the "if it bleeds we can kill it" just picturing throgar getting thrown a pistol from the elder predator, Nd he tries to put cheese in it
Apparently at new game levels, this is not nearly as trivial. Messmer was still able to impale me often enough that I ultimately abandoned this approach. First phase easy, second phase not so much.
Meteorite Staff with Impenetrable Thorns with a shield also works really well against Messmer, I found it much easier than using a melee weapon as he has such sporadic annoying movements.
Using this on ng+7, it makes the fight possible 💀

NGL, I ended up doing this guy with multiplayer.. I went with an approximation of this mitigation tank build, just sat there, survived and poked at him while 2 insane bleed users just gutted him to pieces. if they got hit I walked up, poked him a few times for aggro, then soaked some hits with the shield while they recovered. Took 2 tries, but barely 15 min of waiting in total :p
Yeah I guess if you had a great shield with guard counter setup it may be easy but this boss is so freaking hard y'all I say that as someone who is beats every Souls game and has a platinum on most of them this dude is next level next level

This worked like a charm! A very robust and tasty cheese!
Use ice breath dragon summon with this build instead of spear. Shield in left hand , dragon talisman in right. Mimic summon need a spear so summon him with weapon then switch to talisman.
His attacks except the spear barrage can mainly be easily dogged but the e you run out of stamina

I used that shield with the quest line staff and 3 thorn sorcery
Spent like two hours getting everything I didn’t have, including full armor set with no silver scarab or feet, got my pike and shield to +20 each, tried this method three times, died, went back to my old method of fighting him normally, beat him in like 2 tries :,D
