    I have a log splitter that’s been upright for a while n not used. Works both way s. I can’t get the cylinder to move hydraulically but can with a pry bar. Oil comes out of return inside the tank n sprays readily. If I understand I need to get horizontal n bleed the line. ?? Any vids on that ?

    Thanks so much for this video. What are the primary differences between using ATF vs hydraulic fluid on automotive hoists?

    • @A_friend_of_Aristotle
      @A_friend_of_Aristotle 7 месяцев назад +2

      As a lifting medium, there is no difference. ATF is a hydraulic fluid that has more detergents and wear additives and is generally more expensive. ATF's intended application is in automatic transmissions, which requires the oil to do more than just act as a pressure medium. ATF can "scrub" or clean out a system much better than regular hydraulic oil, so if you use ATF make sure to change your filters religiously.

      @@A_friend_of_Aristotle Thanks. It is a sealed system so I am unsure how it could get dirty.
      I had a leaking seal on my two stage cylinder for my PORT A HOIST Canadian auto lift so sucked out all the 10+ gallons of crystal clear ATF (recycled it, UGH I should have burned it all in my VW TDI) then changed out for hydraulic fluid hoping it could help. Of course I had to change out the seals. Too bad! Still running with the same juice.

      How do you know the pump is working? What is the flow rate? What is system pressure? What kind of pump? What is the application?

      The pump seals may be bad, or the check valve might be stuck open. Disassemble it, replace the seals and clean everything. Make sure the check valve moves freely, or replace it entirely.

    I bought a used enerpac and noticed when I disconnect an accessory(after use) there is a bit of oil in the coupling. Do I need a new hose? It happens if I connect -- disconnect any of my 4 of my accessories. Or is that just -to be expected

    Suppose you are the in charge of a power plant. There is a huge hydraulic pump working continuously and from few days its making huge sound and vibration. Please, find out the problem and suggest possible solution for this situation

    • @A_friend_of_Aristotle
      @A_friend_of_Aristotle 7 месяцев назад

      Sounds like cavitation. This can come from one of two possible problems: low oil (look for leaks elsewhere) or air getting into the pump inlet (look for a loose hose or inlet fitting). Another possible problem could be a collapsing pump inlet hose. Other possibilities could be oil too thick, restrictions on the inlet side due to bends or fittings, kinked hose or hardline, cold oil, or plugged inlet strainer.
      Most cavitation problems occur on the inlet side of the pump, between the pump and the tank.

    Can anyone help me with this problem, our hydraulic arm manages to raise but get stuck mid-range and starts "jumping" when trying to raise to full position. This problem only occurs on auto-mode, when raised manually (by holding the switch in raise mode) it manages to go to full position and engage the limit switch.
    Another problem we have on another arm is that it doesn't manage to raise at all when in auto-mode. But if it is raised an inch or so manually, then switch to auto, it will continue the raise.

      Without knowing more about the system in question, it sounds like a solenoid or controller issue. If everything works fine in manual I would discount any problem with the directional control valve, cylinder, or linkages/pilot controls to the directional control valve. If the auto feature controls the pilot system, there will be solenoid operated valves being controlled by an ECM. If you can connect with the manufactures diagnostics software do so and see if any error codes are present. I would suspect an electrical or electronic problem rather than mechanical or hydraulic.
