Your comment about the lack of text on labels is spot on! I wanted to play a record last night, and it took me a minute to figure out what was side 1. The only text on the record was songs that were on the "other side". So freakin' annoying!
Robert talking about albums from 2022 and liking so many 🔥 ones. I must be dreaming 🛌 Robert talking about his 🐓 out. Now i know i'm dreaming. Happy New Year 🥳🎉🎉
Yeah, tried rockin out that way recently and realized how far out of shape I am 🤣 Always love me some good satire, so it seems appropriate to bone up on The Viagra Boys' catalogue...
I reviewed both your best of the year videos. It seems like we have different taste in modern music but there are two releases of yours that made my list. They are Jack White's Fear of the Dawn which I consider his big, fat, dumb loud guitar album but in this case that is a good thing. Also I like the new First Aide Kit album. Ruins was my jump off point into their music and I am working on getting all their previous albums. To me they are like a modern day female version of The Everly Brothers.
Great list! I agree that the Jack White LP is great. I went and saw him at St Louis Music Park last summer. Amazing show. Hope to see you at the Record show this weekend.
Tears For Fears! Looooove this group! And their new record is as incredible as any record they have ever put out. Quiet genius'. 🤫 Viagra Boys is cool too. Salute!
Very delighted First Aid Kit was so high on your list. Quite of few you mentioned on both volumes I plan to check out. Viagra Boys are great. Dumb name great band. I still need to get that album. Great content as per usual.
Interesting list Robert...I made my list & also coincidentally put TFF at #4...but I just discovered your channel, too late to submit my fave album of 2022...so I'll tell you now...and no one else picked it either...it's Boston's own Sarah Borges "Together Alone"...you may dig her stuff & that album cuz she's a badass with a lot of swagger & great voice & songwriting...she combines catchy powerpop, garagepunk energy & some Outlaw country/Americana... her stuff is pretty addictive too, with 8 albums now...check her out...I'm seeing her on the upcoming 7th Outlaw Country Cruise late February, cannot wait cuz it's a total blast!!
I shop at the original 3rd Man Records in Detroit. I got a 7" his newest CD and the last record bin they had. They did not have any more record crates on line or at any store. I love anything Jack White does, now I got to see him play in person. He is a very talented person.
Need to add "Hello, Hi" from Ty Segall. It takes a couple listens to really catch on. I'm hooked and I can't stop putting it on...So good (especially live)
Hooray! I'm so glad you enjoyed Palomino Robert. I couldn't agree more with the record label. GIVE ME TEXT. I keep putting the wrong side on. I also love Tears For Fears and the Viagra Boys album. Great video as always. Your videos always are a blast. 🤘Rock out with your ____ out! I can't do that to First Aid Kit. Lol
Interesting take on the Clutch record. I bought it, but I'm know nothing about the earlier material. I agree this one is a solid rocker, but nothing really extraordinary about it. So hearing you speak highly of their earlier material has raised my hopes. I've heard a lot of people lately raving about that First Aid Kit record. I hate 'no-text' labels. I have a couple I always have to look at the runouts to figure out what side is which. I also hate EPs that don't clearly identify whether it's 33 or 45, and there are many EPs at both speeds. ROWYCO!
Thanks for all the great vids this year Robert! Happy New Year! I cant believe you didn't comment on the King/White Buffalo band names. I thought it was rather odd...
Great stuff. Gonna give the ones I don t know a listen. Jacks playing is a combo of Pete Townsend with Randy California and John Chipinola, of Quicksilver, vibrato. Also the Chickisaw Mud Puppies and the one man band guys, Dr Ross and Joe Hill Louis.
Yes, black midi is great. Sounds like I'll have to check out King Buffalo (another "King" band!), Rolling Blackouts and White Buffalo (another Buffalo!).
Two videos one album that I have Brought (Makes no difference that I brought 4 copies of it) Suede's "Autofiction" - 2 standard CD's, 1 Japanese Version and that Deluxe Digital Download thing with 15 tracks - I don't buy much new stuff, But I can still walk into a record store and spend $1000.
Love the Viagra Boys. I wasn't sure about the name either but then it dawned on me that it's like a Boy Band name, but with older guys instead of teen heartthrobs, which seems to fit both the seediness and the satirical side of their personality. Either this or the new OFF! album, maybe the Black Midi, is going to wind up as my #1 this year. I like the Jack White album quite a bit too. I need to revisit because it was out a while ago. If you like that you might want to give the new Jon Spencer & The Hitmakers album a listen. It has similar things going on style wise. I agree about text on the labels whole heartedly. I can think of at least one example of an album where they were subtle about it, like side one had a picture of a bird and side two had two of the same bird. I could live with something like that even. Sometimes it says which side is which in the deadwax. That doesn't cut it for me. Too hard to read, especially if I have mood lighting going. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Tears for Fears opening for Hall and Oates?! That sounds strange. Not to diminish H&O, but I don't think T4F should be opening for anyone after so many decades in the business! I'd love to see them live once, but didn't have the chance yet. Their songs have a very special atmosphere. Labels: how I hate rotating the record in front of the window or lamp so I can read the runout text, searching for an A/B, because the artist was just too original to make a decent label that serves its primary purpose. Thanks for the recommendations. The methodology is admirable. I'm pretty bad at keeping pace with the industry and usually purchase new stuff way too late to evaluate a year when its over. Envy of None wasn't bad either. Rush's Alex Lifeson in a project band. Worth giving it a try even if you are not a die hard Rush fan, much closer to alt rock.
Love Rolling Blackouts, but that new album was a huge letdown. Their first album 'Hope Downs' was easily my favorite album of 2018, and the second album is good too. Check out the first album and the EP.
I like the song from Tears For Fears Sewing the seeds of love it sounds like it could be a Beatles Song. I definitely like Songs From The Big Chair, I am buying their new album.
Man, the Viagra Boys are great. The music is awesome and the lyrics so good. My issue is the singer voice. I don't really like it. On that album, he used an effect (sorry unfamiliar with the proper term) which is great at first but he used it nearly throughout the whole record. I wish they would have been more parsimonious with that effect. But the music, the creativity, the spirit, the lyrics are awesome. Well worth checking out. Also, they have some great live performances available on YT
@@RobertFithen oh boy, Robert, you are getting popular... someone replied to 2 of my comments with nearly the same profile as you (nearly but not quite). I had reported the comments so hopefully YT will do its jobs and block it. Needless to say, you might want to mention it in your next video so that people don't get scammed because they think they received a reply from you mentioning gifts to be send to them. Cheers.
You just figured out the reason wives make us husbands play our records in the basement. It's so we can rock out with our c#$×s out. I do it all the time cause the kids don't come down to the basement cause they'd rather rap to the laundry. Ha
No text on label or at least a mention of A/B or 1/2, is one annoying thing, what’s up with using a super small font for the lyrics or cramming all lyrics onto one side of the sleeve or insert? I can tell when the graphic designer has his or her roots in the CD era…
Ghost are metal. Almost AI generated, distilled from Marylyn Manson n Kiss for today. Like a committee got together n created a new band. Death metal for all. Total metal.

‘It felt appropriate…but don’t do it to Joni Mitchell’ 😂. Wise words!
❤😂

I made a video about albums from this century. I could barely believe it myself.
ROWYCO 🤣😂 and you thought White Buffalo got too personal 🤪😜have a happy new year Robert. Charles
I was hoping someone would catch the blatant hypocrisy.
I can’t wait to listen to some of these! Thanks, Robert

Love Love Love Viagra Boys!!! All their albums are fantastic! Going to see them next month. Should be a WILD show!!
I'm going to have to check out some of the earlier releases.

My grandsons (10 and 11) turned me on to Ghost. I'll have to ask them what they think of their latest. Another great video Robert 👍

Art over information, but I'd rather have both. They could at least do what the punk and metal records from the 80's did and put the text on one side.
I had never heard that Rolling Blackouts album. It sounds a bit like an Echo and the Bunnymen album. Awesome!
Sweden Rocks! First Aid Kid is cool band. Viagra Boys are great too!
Thanks for all the great vids this year Robert! Happy New Year! I cant believe you didn't comment on the King/White Buffalo band names. I thought it was rather odd...

I like colored vinyl as well with new records, I'll get it unless it's an ugly choice or much more expensive than the black or sold out.
I was hoping that Jack White album was number 1. Definitely my favourite this year.
Wow, I have listening to do. Only one I listened to (and loved) was first aid kit.
My top three? Porcupine Tree-"Closure/Continuation" Tears For Fears- "The Tipping Point
Romanian prog band, Yesterdays- " Saint-Exupéry álma"

I do agree that the new album is a disappointment after the previous two
