This was always the closing track of their gigs in that era - it was always sad because you knew there wouldn't be any more that night, but also magical because it's such a fantastic song. I was there that night as it happens, but the following night was better because there weren't cameras all over the stage!
Outstanding performance, gives me the shivers still. Unique song, patient delivery, crescendo, among the best. OMD added heart to the synthesizer that Keith Emerson,Moog,Gary Numan,Mike Oldfield introduced.
You should check out some of the other YT versions of Stanlow with videos. This orchestral one is really good: ruclips.net/video/xevq955tY8c/видео.html. An impressive film is: ruclips.net/video/CtNFok9LOGU/видео.html and this one has nice stills: https//ruclips.net/video/DmKjNHZd3jg/видео.html
Takes me right back to the Manchester Apollo for the Organisation tour..the thuds vibrating around the great theatre..a superb time. Thanks OMD for the last 40 years.
Was fortunate enough to catch this live at a sound check with a small crowd of fifty others at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC last September. They said they were practicing it for the US tour - wow, blown away. They played Statues at the gig was which also very cool to hear live.
Andy started the first verse two late--By time he finishes the 3rd line of the second verse the base synth kicks in--Didnt have time left to sing Stanlow--Who cares--Wonderful song and a great concert--Highlight for me is Statues middle part with Paul and Winston shrouded in white light.
This song is real synth experimental music and arguably the best form In my opinion , tons of melody dark gloomy real . Anyone that thinks 80s synth was all high pop listens to the wrong music . Andy is a super front man
@ianoreilly Hah!! The same over here in the states. I saw them on the A and M tour in Detroit. Now, I had seen everyone from the Cramps to Shriekback to the Gang of Four and was ready for a "mellow" evening from OMD. They started with Stanlow. As the volume of the oil rig tape increased I started to look at my brother nervously. When the synths and kick drum hit, it was a brutal aural assault to our bodies. I have never before or since heard a louder show. We stayed in the door the whole gig!
I went to see Shrek at this venue a few months back and all I could think of was Andy & The boys performing one of the great gigs of the 80s in this very place. Unfortunate y I would have been only 10 1/2 when they were there, so I missed out.
@EVERTONIC And in Moels (pronounced Mells) is the telephone box they sing about in Red Frame, White Light" And I've actually been in it...................woohoo!!! LOL
play this track nearly every day of my life. mcluskey sings with so much passion.best band the world's ever seen
I play it on my phone keyboard ! Love it
2024 - Its 40 years later and the youth here in my area still dance to these era bands

JJ62 nice story - unfortunately it’s phones now that ruin it
I have noticed that they play Stanlow at the beginning of their concerts sometimes now.
What do you remember from that gig
What a great a great track live and not a mobile phone filming it to spoil the view!!!! Ah, they were the days!!!
MrGibbo04 the best
I love this mystical song. It inspires me all the time.
Organisation best album
This song saved my life, one bleak evening in 1988.
Outstanding performance, gives me the shivers still. Unique song, patient delivery, crescendo, among the best. OMD added heart to the synthesizer that Keith Emerson,Moog,Gary Numan,Mike Oldfield introduced.
Still fantastic after all these years
i wanna hug this song, 💜💚❤
Stanlow is the refinery just up from my High School in Helsby. I’m now listening to this in my home in the USA but 8t reminds me of where I’m from.

Thanks OMD for the last 40 years.
2024 - brings back Memories
I loved this tour!!
Andy is a superb lead singer and the band accompaniment is right up there.
Ein episches Meisterwerk!
No way; it should had been amazing being in the early 80's over England listening to all these 80's bands.
It sure was, and many of the concerts were £5. Saw OMD 40 years ago, hope to see them next year. Can`t wait.
Can't compare my words to so many great comments before. But lovely to see so many enjoying a piece of beauty. Whatever that means to you.
Thanks for putting this up
OMD for ever...fan since 1980. Just seen them in Hamburg 2017 and still the greatest. Thank you OMD for this great music!

Just so good.
Sacré Live !!!!!! ♥♥
kraftwerk of the 80's miles before their time.....
Reaching out for the divine as I hear it.
This song is real synth experimental music and arguably the best form In my opinion , tons of melody dark gloomy real . Anyone that thinks 80s synth was all high pop listens to the wrong music .
Andy is a super front man
It was not "pop" at all, it was electronic synth new wave music!

And that folk's is how you create Ambience.
Well that was the shortest 6:28.

I was soooo young and the world was standing for a Atomicbomb Fall. 🙄
Found this from Martin Zero an urban explorer in the Manchester area.
I wonder why they never do the song "Promise" off of this same album Organisation?
