Hello Jacob from the UK!!! I have just set-up a well planted freshwater aquarium using a pair of Kessil A160WE Tuna Sun. I also have the Kessil controller and wondered if you have any advice on program settings for starting out - times, spectrum, intensity etc? Many thanks in anticipation
4FunRC I did this purposely. I mounted my lights to the tank after it was set it place, so there wasn't enough space behind my tank to mount the goose necks properly. I've had them this way for a very long time, no mineral build up....mostly because I clean my equipment. Thanks for watching.
LED flood light are cheaper and better. Get a Kessil if you want more features that you wont use and have money to throw away. On that tank he has over $700 in lights
That depends on the clarity and transparency of the glass, if it is clean and clear then it wont effect the light output very much. If the glass is foggy or dirty then it wil. Dim the light
Simen André Are you referring to evaporation? If so. Yes water does evaporate quite a lot from both of tanks but my room is well ventilated and I don't pay extra for water so it really doesn't matter to me. Thanks for watching my friend :)
It depends on what you are trying to grow. Generally, more light doesn't replace CO2, plants still need CO2 to grow, but depending on the plants you are using you may or may not need it.
I set up an aquarium a few years ago and I'm sort of giving it a makeover, since I didn't know much when I started it. I have java ferns and this other small plant that looks kind of like a java fern but the leaves are smaller and the ends of the leaves are frayed. My guess was wisteria but the rhizome looks like a java fern rhizome. Do you know what the plant is?
Can anyone give me an honest comparison between the eheim power led and the kessil tuna sun? My' tank is an eheim aquastyle 9, so that's about I think 14 inches tall. I'm either going to replace the now-failing light that came with the tank or buy a kessil. I like the idea of being able to adjust and customize things and hopefully the price difference can justify the purchase and make my' tank look better than the stock light ever could and of course grow plants better.
Thank you for this video I've been sort of com shopping lights for my new tank this was really helpful. LOL I wonder if pecktec will be bringing his clones with him lol...
Thank you for this video. But I am confused in last part. Would a160WE be good enough for 23.5 inches high tank? You mentioned couple of inches below 24". I appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance
OK I might get one of these and attempt dwarf baby tears carpet when I can manage to save up enough money. Do you think 2 finney fugeray planted plus and diy c02 is enough to get a
Spending over a thousand dollars on these things when you can just get a 4 bulb 48 inch 216 watt high output t5 setup for $120 shipped is plain foolish.
The Kessil will last for years, you have to change t5s bulbs every 6 months, after 10 years and all the bulb changes and the time to go to the store and the cost of the actual bulbs Kessil is a much better value
lolrofl5 I'm sure they're priced this way for a reason. The manufacturing process can't be cheap for these products, not to mention Kessil has to stay alive as a business as well. If every company just sold their products at the price the community wanted, no one would be in business. I think its fair to say if you were the owner of Kessil you'd feel the same way when its your business you've built from the ground up out of your own pocket on the line. Thanks for watching.
Jacob Muller Hi Jacob. I personally believe dirt is a natural substance that belongs to the earth. I've heard to many negative things about dirt in planted tanks to feel confident enough to recommend it. Bacterial blooms, algae blooms, permanent cloudy water, it just doesn't seem like it can be used successfully. While some natural things work well in planted tanks, I believe dirt is one of those things we just can't use. Substrates specifically made for planted tanks, like ADA soil, Tropica Soil, ECO Complete, they've all been tested, processed and formulated to be used in aquariums, as such they work much better. Thanks for watching my friend :)
Hello Jacob, i challenge you test in a future video how much light actually reaches the bottom of the tank in a 36 inch tank. I have custom made tank (21 W x23 L x39 H) [don't ask] and my current neon lights are great at lighting the room but not so great at providing light to the bottom plants. I thank you in advance, Gabi
DMAN D Can't say for sure. I've never owned one personally. But honestly, metal halides, T8, T5's, its old technology. Everyone should switch to LED's. They consume less power and last for years, rather then the others that use bulbs or tubes in their fixtures that have to be replaced every six months putting more electronic waste into our landfills. Thanks for watching.

Do you still use kessil? Is it still the light of choice for you?
using three a360we's to light a 180g ada tank and your video makes me feel much more confident about lighting. thanks man!
Jacob, love your videos. Just wanted to say you always sound like Jay Baruchel when you talk!
Thank you sir will get the 360 .
Thanks for watching! :)
Excellent video, really helped me out allot 👍
kessil a160we tuna or the ai prime hd freshwater? and why?
Just one of these lights cost more than what i paid for my 125 gallon aquarium from PetSmart!

Mounted backwards, ie thumb screws should -not- be facing the water to avoid mineral buildup.

Huge help. Had these lights for a while but really not much info on how to set them up.

great video! I have 3 of the a160we tuna suns over my 60g 38"long high tech! I would say that your definitely on point!
Trey L Thanks for watching! :)
how much benefit is taken away if you have glass top lids on the top of the aquarium?
That depends on the clarity and transparency of the glass, if it is clean and clear then it wont effect the light output very much. If the glass is foggy or dirty then it wil. Dim the light
Which Kessel light is best for a Biorb Life 45L?
kessil looks nice and promising but they're still out of my pocket :( , maybe i'll order a set later this year when things aren't as tight
BeastAquatics They are an investment I agree. Thanks for watching my friend :)
Awesome video and great review Jacob! :)
Keith's Planted Aquariums Thanks my friend! :)
How do you deal with humidity? Since theres no "top" on this aquarium you gotta get alot of humidity right?
Simen André Are you referring to evaporation? If so. Yes water does evaporate quite a lot from both of tanks but my room is well ventilated and I don't pay extra for water so it really doesn't matter to me. Thanks for watching my friend :)
hi. if i need to hit 6500k on the tuna sun 160 how much should i turn the color. please would appreciate any expert help.
thank you.
Would you have to have CO2 if you do the a360 light?
It depends on what you are trying to grow. Generally, more light doesn't replace CO2, plants still need CO2 to grow, but depending on the plants you are using you may or may not need it.

my guess is java fern windelov. wiseria is a stem, and does not grow in a rhizome fashion.
I have a tank that's 72" long, its acrylic which two opening at the top...will two lights be enough for that leghth?
i have a aquarium 55 gallons 48x12x21 what kind of kessil i need for that and how many ?

kessil now makes an led specially for nano aquariums, the a80 tuna sun.
I bought 2 new comet goldfish 1 week ago and they are still skittish till this day. Is that normal?
Tornected yes that is normal, they will still take time to get use to their new surroundings
Hi Jacob, I have the cadlights 34g tank(30x11x16) display area. do you think 2 kessil 160 would be overkill?
Thank you for this video I've been sort of com shopping lights for my new tank this was really helpful. LOL I wonder if pecktec will be bringing his clones with him lol...
Sketchy Bingsu lol maybe! haha. Thanks for watching my friend :)

I have a 60cube 24x24x24 with one u recommend
None !
are all the Kessil lights on max intensity?
+Arib Hassam Hi, yes they are. Thanks for watching :)

well the kessils will last way longer without having to change them and they look way cooler...
Ya, I love the shimmering look it's incredible. Is it worth that much cash though? Depends on your situation I guess.

Even better use Led flood light ,thats far cheaper
@@openmind2161 cheaper isn't better. I use to be like that but now I'm setting up an aquarium gallery and want a minimalist look.
Do you work for Kessil?
Would 2 a160we fixtures be enough for a 48" mix reef?
They're too pricey right now. I'd buy two if they came down in price.

Hi jacob, bit off topic but which have you tried/prefer EI dosing or dirted tanks? or do you use ada aqua soil or something like that?

should i get one for my 8 inched?
is the ADA Grand Solar any good?

JacobsAquarium Ok thanks :).
I have a 14.3 gallon bow front measuring 24 long ×12 wide × 12 high. do you think a a80 would work for that?
