Thanks for sharing...
This performance is CRIMINALLY underrated. Both vigor and imagination are married together as the two masterful musicians perform this piece of music; solidifying that mankind has ALWAYS been composin' #BanGerrZ_
@TheSideflip Hi, the instrument is a Viola Da Gamba. It´s something like the Cello´s lost cousin. It was used during the renaissance and baroque periods. There is a beautiful repertoire for this instrument... look for it.
The French Theorbo is very resonant, and much more along the lines for this chamber music, as apposed to its oversize Italianate form utilized in larger settings and ensembles. The single strung courses are shown to full advantage when coupled with the Gamba. Excellent period pairing of instruments.
Read E.G.Baron's "Untersuchung des Instruments del Lauten", (1727) and you will find the exact description of the single strings archlute in G, no doubt that it has existed, and please stop with this kind of unuseful comments. Inform yourself and listen to the music
Sure would like to know, whether what we know as music of Anoine Forqueray was really written by him,or his son Jean Baptiste(who published the works)...anyway,Ghielmi is definitely one of the best violists around...and he plays original viol from 17th century!!!!:)
You must mean why was it built single coursed? Theoboros and other instruments were often single coursed, and frequently, players don't often pluck both strings anyways. IMHO, I thought it sounded cleaner without the intonation differences usually heard in a course. My only criticism was that the lute should have been mixed higer relative to the Viola da Gamba.
How interesting! So this is Forqueray's answer to Rameau's "La Forqueray", so to speak?! Were they good friends? I have a feeling that Forqueray didn't know Rameau as well as vice versa. I find Rameau's caricature of Forgueray sounds more characteristic of Forqueray than Forqueray's of Rameau is of Rameau. LOL... But then, I'm not as familiar to Forqueray as I am to Rameau.
Majesteusissimo & Resolutissimo...! Great playing & nice ambience concluding Forqueray's magnificent 1ére Suite. Laudable indeed, this fine posting!! On a second note, slightly Devil's advocate-ish: Why does one get the impression that viol-players seemingly have to breath so huffy-puffy through their noses during playing - as if their profound 'fierement' needs an audible applomb - with a certain 'taurus component'??!! I just ask... with a tongue-in-cheek, of course..;-)))...!
Opteryx Industries I know of the Angelika, which is essenitally a baroque lute with single course: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ang%C3%A9lique_%28instrument%29
According posting I received in attention the question I asked on another site, Enrico Onofri is sick. His thinness and disturbing and causes sadness to lovers of their technical qualities.
Buona fortuna pier luigi polato

Absolutely breathtaking, the playing is fantastic and authentic instruments beautiful.

I love these guys!
The lute player is a very emotionally in tune with the music. And so is the viola da gamba player!
Sempre volto aqui!
Absolutely wonderful... The French baroque had such rich music and it made a deep impression on a lot of French composers in the later musical periods
Wow! Gorgeous music, gorgeous setting, gorgeous instruments!

@NeoBossman You are right. Most continuo was a solo harpsichord, lute/theorbo, or even a solo cello or bass!
REALLY BEAUTIFUL....
bravo.
Lovely
beautifull
Monumental!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exquisite
HERMOSAAA
Mmmm, want more!
@0pteryx You realise that Neither a Cello or a guitar appear in the video right?
What's up with the thumbs down votes? What the Forqueray people?
all hail to Mr.Pianca..
22 people came here expecting Francois Couperin....
I came here expecting Couperin but with an open mind :o) ok, I confess, I love a huge range of music - and I was in tune for this.
Jimmy Hendrix was also a 'South Paw'!! Cool stuff!

great
they are playing in the salzburg hellbrunn castle
Someone said this is lame. Ok, you are right, this is not for the coarse ones ;o)
obviously a modern guitarist posing as a lute player. quite well done.

+Olvandi99 I think it's "dubbed"
who knows where are they playing?
rock on
Viola da Gamba!!!
Precioso vídeo. Dónde fué grabado ?
Why is that lute single coursed?
That baroque lute has only single courses, how common is that historically?

Guerison quantiqantique
(music ends).... "Uh?.... aw.. I'm in 2012 :( "
Is that in largo?
power move
The gamba has to be incredibly difficult to play given all of those strings.
"THE ROULETTE REGIME WAS HERE"
Very nice!
The viola guy should probably calm down a little bit--the lute isn't too loud of an instrument :D
@ivanosito haha... i felt the same thing.!
why have you deleted this comment? (urbi11)
