My name's Matt Urch and I own and run Urchfab welding and fabrication.
I specialise in custom automotive fabrication from building roll cages to complete one off builds. I built the worlds most unique and oldest drift car known as 'The Drift Rod' which can be found on my channel.
So if you're into grinding, welding, fabricating, etc, you're in the right place!
Don't even bother trying to please everyone, do what you want to matey, good job!
GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!MORE LIKE BLOODY FANTASTIC 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful tank. Don't forget a vent and a tap on the other side for gas. Looks really good.👍
Looks great matt, one question, how would you get fuel out of both sides, as I see it one side won't drain out of the tank... needs a hose between the two under the frame.....
Copper pipe with brass fittings would look smart
This is what I was thinking too lol!! Great looking tank!
i dont think matt thought of that at all.
That was my question too, either you run a hose or tube from one side to the other, or you put outlets on both sides and put a tee in to the carb/carbs.
I had wondered that too.
Hey man Kevin here from Australia.
Cool tank you've followed the theme of the bike into the tank beautifully. 10/10 from me.
🌻 peace. ✌
Looks great. Always loved the look of a coffin tank.
2 things that others have commented on.
1 needs a breather or a breathable cap
2 can’t get fuel out of the second side. Either a) a second tap or b) a transfer pipe to the one tap that gives you a reserve.
Always look forward to your posts. Thanks.
I was just muttering "don't forget to get it pressure tested" when you did exactly that. Brilliant job to get only the one leak (and that being the fuel tap and not the tank). Usually there is more than one so kudos to the attention to the welding
Cracking job Matt - fits the overall style and manufacture of the bike a treat!
I´ve seen some fellows doing the root pass just laying down the rod in the gap and using the torch on top to melt it. They seem to obtain good results with that. If anyone has tried it, should be great to know.
Great video dude! you´re real pros.
FAntastic work on the tank, great to see the end product & the Mongrel running.
You are great to watch. So methodical. I was hoping you didn't grind the welds. But it looks the dog's mate.
Awesome job and clean design, one of the best and complete functional gas tank I ever see made-up.
It’s all about what a plasma can make or what you can create with a plasma cutter? I recon it looks awesome..... throw in a bit of Matt magic and vwalla!!! Awesome content. Awesome plasma creation
Design, weld, puppets and sound effects, If I could do 1 out of 4 I'd be happy. Great job, around here we silence the critics and use a backhoe to clean up the mess. Old School.
Great!!! (I know how to do...) 👍🤎
Logically:
- Strip the rod and sheet metal with a scraper
- Clean the sheet metal and the strip with ethyl acetate
- Solder on the outside with the argon atmosphere on the inside
Almost there! Breather and a balancer still to add. Also would love to see how you operate those mounting threads.
I love this just because of the simplicity of it
you are a real builder man
This guy is a genius
Awesome as usual. Like the proportions. No leaks first time, shows your level of precision & skill
Yup that works, looks good and no leaks
This is awesome. Wish I could get one that fits for a Micargi Royal Dutch beach cruiser. Instead of it being used as a gas tank have it as a storage compartment. If that was made I would definitely buy one.
that look perfect, hence my suggestion for it , yea its killer mat, so talented too .
This geezers the real life MacGuyver!!!
I don't like coffin tanks but I must admit it really suits the bike. Well played 👍
Good job mate. Intrigued to see how you setup the fuel lines from it
that tank ,in my eyes,is a work of art and i doff my cap to you once again,,,although,,,,,even though shes just gonna be a show pony i think the tank needed to be deeper and needs a tap in both sides to connect the bottom halves. shes not yet a finished project so plenty of time to go around those little snagging jobs. youre doing a fantastic job Matt,, keep it up.
I like it, it really ties the whole bike together!
Amazing job, i'v just picked up a 77 CB750 f1 hardtail with forward controls and a solo seat, very bumpy ride!
The tank fits the design of the bike! It looks great. What ideas on headlight and tail light?
Well done. Hated to see the raw welds go. They looked good. You're a good welder.
That tank on that bike will stand out
Looks good! Dont forget to put a tiny hole in the cap to prevent the tank creating a vacuum and not delivering any fuel to the engine.
not the ideal solution on a warm day petrol will expand and come out the hole and run down the tank if you fill it up, petrol soaked balls is no fun, better to have a one way valve in a vent tube
A very nice bit of fabrication
Great job and Billy the puppet seems to like it too :)
Here as well Lord Hepcat. A pleasure to see your lordship
Great work as always Matt.
Nice work I'm skilled Tig welder I love the work I understand how much goes into it
Wicked looking tank cracking job done. That plasma table is the way. Love how you showed the tank build
👍👍👍😜🏴🦄🎣😁🤞✌️
Work of art that Matt.
Very neat that tank....well done that is something you should expand on.
AMAZING WORK - Well Done
Again great design and execution, certainly more proportionate than the template tank, still going to need a means to get the fuel from the non tap side but I’m sure you’ll have a solution.
Fits like a glove!!!!
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone
DRW
Fits entre bike really well!
how about a square headlight , in a tank style matching pod , well oblong like some of the old yams or suzukis ,,
Yes, a square headlight would really fit the style of that bike.
Awesome work as always, and very funny with the slow doll entry
Tidy job Matt looks good to 😎
Tank came out real nice 👍👍😎👍👍
Excellent work on the tank
because the tunnel is so high you may need to have a double fuel tap to let petrol flow from both sides
That looks like a lot of work well done
I thought this was Urchfab I was watching, seemed more like that 6061.com guy. LOL! Love this build Matt!
Yup - very nice. What's the worst thing in a custom tank...? Pin holes - been there. The welds on the tank are an artistic feature...!
Nice job and the welding's spot on.
It needs a breather in the cap though to allow the fuel to run out, it'll be like a vinegar bottle otherwise.
Smart! Looks great Urchman!
Nice piece of work Matt!
Yes, yes, and yes! Looks really great. I was thinking about whether you should polish that tank, but I kind of like the matte ( or is that Matt) finish on the tank. You are going to need a cross feed from one side of the tank to the other to get enough petrol capacity. You are one s-t hot welder! Nice work! Wish I could weld like that!
One of your commenters suggested a square headlight. I think that might be kind of cool, if you put it in a headlight housing that was a tiny wee version of the coffin tank.
Very nice work Matt love the fact there is no annoying loud music as you worked . Looks a lot better as you say it's a bit bigger than the cardboard test piece .puzzled about the fact you only have 1 tap, newbie query will it only ever fuel from the one side .enjoyable video as always thanks
That started out looking like an aloominum kite👍
So the right side of the tank is your reserve tank. When you run out, tip the bike so it sloshes left and continue your journey.
This is incredible to watch, nice skills man!!
Love the hair flick!
Looks great. Very nice work but there is about 1/4 of your fuel capacity that you can't get to unless you install a second petcock on the opposite side
Love the tank design as well as the execution!
Matt, make sure you have a smooth area just in front of where you are sitting in case of a frontal crash impact, just to protect your body parts!
Looks fantastic Matt.
Looks fantastic!
You are an unbelievably talented Man Matty. Great job Mate. Billy J..... OZ Land.
It’s got that old school chopper look
excellent job Matt, very skillfully made and looks really good on the bike
Nice Job on the tank. You should have fit a fuel tap on the other side of the tank, so that you could use the fuel on that side of the tank as well. Caus at the moment you can only use one half the tank.
Hi Matt, Looks good as it is. Thumbs up.
Amazing work. Looks beautiful. I love fabrication
Well done looks great, you are a very talented man
Awesome craftsmanship!
I do most definitely rather your videos with voice overs.
Looks amazing! Perfect fit for that bike.
What an awesome tank Matt you do great work
The tank style isn’t my thing really but it’s beautifully made/your welds are super clean
Plasma cut ladder-frame forks would look mint I think.
Wow best video sharing friend greetings know me from malaysia 👍👍
With no balance pipe you will only get fuel on one side unless you put another outlet on the other side and join them together but as usual great workmanship
Looks very cool, suits the bike perfectly. I also wondered about how to drain both sides of the tank. I'm sure you have some sort of steam punk idea. Cheers
Brilliant job matt ,,looks great
Very nice job very impressive
Love it, I like the whole stance of the thing, looks mean.
I love it beautiful welding work my friend
Nice job looks great
Looking good Matt. Maybe a second fuel tap?
Came cool! Nice job!
I need to get a CNC machine for my bike shop. Im getting to old to hand form gas tanks , frames , fenders and everything else. However, I build period correct 1920's bikes for the most part; so a CNC machine would not be good . I do really like your tank tho. Looks cool.
Absolutely awesome fella.
That's a fantastic job!
great build so far ..real skills .. personally dunna think a digger style tank suits it though :(... cool build all the way ,,do what ya see mr ..mad skills sir . one doths ones cap to ya
hope that all goes well.for you.mate
That's awesome 👍🏾👍🏾🤙🏼 will you do the gards the same? And will you do a sissy bar on the back? Cheers 🤙🏼👍🏾
Grinding alloy welds can be a little bit weak, good luck it’s looking great 👍
There's the man who gives his refined ancestors a good rest in peace before cremation in the engine
Looks awesome.
Looks good but fuel drain for other side too
Yep, good choice 👍🏻
Looks great but I liked the welds
insane workamamship. great video. thanks.
