    Glad I found this video. The first one had you taking off the box for the pellets. If you follow this video you will have NO PROBLEMS replacing the RTD Probe. Great video.

      Awesome Dave, glad you found it valuable! I think I saw a similar video, which inspired me to make this one! It really is a simple process, and hope your Traeger is running smooth again! Enjoy.

    Thanks for the help, just ordered one. My tailgater 20 series would sometimes go 200° hotter or just get so cold it would shut off, definitely gonna be stoked if this works!

    when removing wires it's always best to tie a pull string with it for ease of routing new wires.

    Found ur vid and very helpful. But I have a question. Did u ever assess the probe temperature itself or just straight replace it? Another troubleshooting g article, mentioned to use an infrared thermometer to determine if the displayed setting is close the infrared reading. I definitely want to try to just limit the repair the probe if that’s the culprit. Plus I’m using a scout, so not sure if a smaller size grill plays a factor

    Great video! Will this also fix the issue of my traeger not heating up to the proper temperature?

      It should, James. Sorry for the delayed reply. Did you try this fix on your Traeger?

    Just out of curiosity, Did you look at the model number on your control panel when you pulled it out? Traeger has used several. My BigTex uses a BAC283 and new models appear to use BAC365. I am seeing temp variations greater than what I would like but unsure whether to actually upgrade my controller to the BAC365. I think I will start with the RTD but need to take some actual before and after data to see how much difference it makes. The new BAC365 does not need P setting.

      hey Doyle, I did not look at the model number. Interesting take, and I'd love to hear how your model differs and if this fix worked for you. Have a great summer, cheers!

      I put a couple remote reading thermometers in the Traeger and compared them with the existing RTD. They correlated very well and I concluded that the issue was with the older BAC283. After more research, I decided to replace it with Savannah Stoker. Right out of the box, my temps are holding within 10 degrees at 225 or higher. No big overshoot on startup.

    • @ItsRyanTurley
      @ItsRyanTurley  2 года назад

      Awesome great info. I’ve heard good things about the Savannah stoker. The new Traeger D2 controllers work much better as well. I have the new timberline XL and the temp is always right on point within a few degrees. Cheers!

      One feature I really like is the automatic re light if the temp drops too low in the burn pot. You have indicators telling you if ignition, auger and fan are on. It adjusts auger speed and time.

    Was the original probe reading accurately? My probe seems to read correctly, but cooler than the cooking level.

    I am having issues with the firepot continuing to catch the pellets on fire and the temps rise out of control. I've tried cleaning the firepot several times and tried replacing the hot rod and the actual firepot. I've tried removing all old pellets and tried a brand new bag. I am continuing to have the same result. With all that said, would this possibly be due to the temperature sensor needing to be replaced?

      I’m currently having this issue.. If you haven’t called Traeger- do it! They will troubleshoot step by step. I just received my new temp probe yesterday & will be installing today. 1st step is to make sure the vent cap is only 1/2 inch gap. Next is to make sure the inside tub is degreased (Dawn & water in a spray bottle, scrape out buildup). That didn’t work for me so my next step is changing the probe. If that doesn’t work I have to call Traeger back & they’ll send out a new control panel.

    I am installing a new controller and it has the temp probe. So mine doesnt currently have holes. Where does your wires go? Is it just a random hole down in the bottom or side of the "barrell" ?

      @ItsRyanTurley BBQ 055. And you know... I am already done. Lol. Firing it up now total conversion and its easy-peasy. Starting to smoke now as I type.

      @ItsRyanTurley I had to order the thermometer probe separately, but the controller I bought comes with 2 food probes

      Awesome man, hope everything works out! Yeah, the new D2 controllers are awesome. I have one now on my Ironwood and Timberline. There should be a little rubber gasket on the side of your barrel, if not, you can just run it through the front of the Door. Does that make sense?

    • @rusted5408
      @rusted5408 Год назад

      @ItsRyanTurley yup. I had to drill a hole. It's working great. Noce to not worry about the toggle switch for the igniter anymore and to be able to adjust the smoke (P setting)

      Sorry to hear man. I will say Traeger CS is great and they will likely help you out. I have the Ranger as well, and definitely took a bit of trial/error to get the temps dialed in. I’ve decided it does not do great at high temps and I try to keep it under 300° when possible.

  • @yogi4rm909
    @yogi4rm909 4 года назад +1

    What’s your P setting set to?

    • @ItsRyanTurley
      @ItsRyanTurley  4 года назад +1

      It’s currently set to 5 (because it’s so hot out). The higher the p setting the longer time between auger rotations. Higher P setting = less heat. I’m doing a P setting video in the next couple weeks!

      It's Ryan Turley awesome thank you soo much. I replaced my RTD probe with the help of your video once done I set it to 225 and temp smoker went all the way up to 398 degrees 🤦🏽‍♂️ calles traeger and they said it could be the controller so waiting for that now. Thanks again. Great video.

    • @ItsRyanTurley
      @ItsRyanTurley  4 года назад +1

      Damn bro that’s rough! Yeah they said it could be my controller as well but they would start with my probe. Hopefully this fixes the issue long-term, keep me posted on if the controller works out for you! I also found lifting the lid at the beginning of the smoke can help regulate the temps trying to get down to that lower range.

  • @timmyharrison5147

    Traeger is a horrible machine. Something is always going wrong and if you leave it up to customer support, they'll just sell youonepart after another until you've rebuilt your entire grill. Be wise. Shop elsewhere!
