Fun Fact: This mod is officially implemented by Valve in Portal, but only in the original Pre-Orange Box Xbox 360 port of the game called Portal: Still Alive, and featured exclusive mechanics that were never seen on PC, until a few modders managed to port it back to PC a few years ago
@@jacobsmith5103 it was more serious in the first game. Don’t get me wrong, there was still some humor in the first game, but the overall tone was dark and serious. Portal 2 was mostly comedy, but had its serious moments.
@@Thetacosaur I think part of it was the lore reveal. Everything was mysterious in the first game. Even the ending didn't really explain it. In the second game, we get all the lore, we get the rattman dens explained, we get glados's history and personality explained, we even get Chell's identity partially explained. The fear of the unknown is gone. All that's left are the concrete fears, so they lean on comedy and environment instead.
And the fact that the Chell clones were a real concept for the original Portal story makes that mod even better, they took what (i believe) could've been one of the most impressive plot-twist in videogames by being one of the few games (not including rouge-likes) in where dying in the game is canon to the story.
Honeslty some of the stuff u are told in the first one. Does make u feel. expendable like another you can take your place at any time. So maybe that is left over from that idea
After you see clones there is a boss fight with a giant turret that seems to break the portal gun. You escape but then half life 2 happens, not a very happy ending
Portal that takes place post 7 hour war but before Gordon galaxy wide revolution ( I like to believe after combine leaving earth that other races started to fight back and free themselves ).
I was thinking "oh this just sounds like P2..." Until the clones were mentioned . I know Glados says she loves testing, so she probably would do that, but really? Damn
Update on the PS5 edition, they’ve added rumble when your lockpicking doors or safes, it actually hurt my hands because it’s active the entire time your doing them, no idea why they added this since it just makes the game worse

This is my favorite mod, Ive only seen videos of it (i dont have a computer that can run valve games, i only use xbox) and its super, super fantastic, (Spoilers) This game has my FAVORITE easter egg ever, in a sequence during the escape/one of the many maintenance hall journeys is you see the Borealis docked. This could suggest this games intended lore takes place before half life 2, during the beginning of the combine invasion, and possibly on that ship unseen employees could be on there and you/chell set the Borealis lore in motion without realizing it, the vagueness of the story and the brilliant writing made the story feel almost that of an original valve game, it leaves the player to theorize whats going on/the lore. Great mod, im happy someones finally giving it the recognition it deserves!
I love the passion you have for this little game even though you haven't tried it. Hope you get to play it one day! It is as fantastic as you describe it.
@@mateo.snm.Yeah, we Xbox players only have the Orange Box, Portal 1 and Portal 2. I really want to play Half Life 1 and its expansions one day but I don’t wanna buy a PC right now. I’m hoping HL1 gets a console port someday.
@@masturch33f66 the thing is, you can play hl1 practically anywhere, so maybe you can play it in a device you own. You could like, connect it to your phone and use a controller to play. Oh, that’s where the clones come from. I saw a clip of that years ago framing it as an actual twist in the game, and I knew it was fake, but didn’t know what mod it was from.
just as you start of you leaving the chambers in one was scary to know that she controls a whole facilty and she can change it if she really tried to take over the world woul be scary it gave me a chill but the rest of the game in two was funny and story driven i wish valve made a hl3 game but like the same kind of menu style cant belive it was the only game on source 1 that feels like source 1.21
Glados escape the Aperture Facility through some sort of garage and when she looks up to the sky, a Battleship from HL2 flies through it. Which would mean that Portal 1 takes place around the same time as hl2 events, and Chell could appear up in some future half life game in some way. (only if this mod was canon, which *almost* happened in Portal: Still Alive)
Here's a small fact for you. Portal and half life are stuck in the same universe While aperture science was competing with black Mesa. To try to advance more in their science. But aperture signs failed because they went to AI. And making robots.
I am willing to hear you out. I just didn't want to add you on DC because I had no idea who you are and with how your DC is setup I cannot DM you without adding you. Also yes I associate with cross and squid, but I still have never interacted with you.
If you have the companion collection or portal still alive on console you should have access to the still alive maps from the bonus maps menu which are slightly modified versions of 14 levels from the flash version map pack, but it has no ending escape sequence. The ending for the flash version map pack is a giant robot bursts through the wall and you have to run and portal away from it in a chase sequence until you reach a parking garage where you fight the robot by directing energy pellets back at it using portals. It is then destroyed along with your portal gun then glados talks about the combine and opens the door to the surface where you see a combine gunship.

@@TrafficTheCone it’s the same concept with different ideas. The only differences are humor and story direction.
