Some of this stuff is pretty unsettling, if I'm being honest. Imagine if, instead of the Portal 2 that we know in love, we'd gotten a Portal game that built upon the sinister and creepy tone of the first game?
@@cupoftea3499 me too! The Portal games we have already have their fair share of creepy and dark moments and concepts (Caroline turning into GlaDOS, the neurotoxin killing everyone in the Aperture facility, etc.) But maybe in some far away future we'll get a more creepy Portal game, y'know... if Valve ever learns to count to three.
1:31 Ok so when I first saw this I came up with a thought. What if GLaDOS was originally going to have memory loss after the events after portal one? The reason why I think this is because she starts talking about remembering something that happened but can’t seem to put it together. I think what was originally going to happen was that we would wake up back at our pod and we happen to stumble upon GLaDOS body. Through clumsiness we wake her up but she seems to have forgotten what happened. We end up having to use her help escaping the facility and making it back to the surface. It sounds like it would have been fun to see and it would be nice to see a more happy ’o’ lucky GLaDOS then just a sociopathic A.I. BUT HEY THATS JUST A THEORY! A portal 2 beta THEORY!
@@oneosix106decena Yeeeesss. The early Portal 2 seems to have more of a darker feel to it. I like how the game actually turned out and I don’t wish they would have changed it, but still. It’s really cool.
I recently heard of a mod that turns Portal 1 into a psychological horror game, and this reminds me of that. I wish I could remember the name because it sounds fucking awesome.
1:40 Cereal jokes aside, the concept of GLaDOS having a faulty memory in Portal 2 would've actually been pretty interesting. I can already picture how the story could play out. GLaDOS remembers being killed, but not exactly how, or by who. Her general intelligence is also noticeable broken or glitchy at times. Then, not recognizing Chell as her killer, she spends the game trying to help her escape the facility, but keeps messing things up mid-way through, due to subconsciously remembering who Chell is. Throughout half the game, GLaDOS is friendly toward Chell, hoping that in exchange for her freedom, she'd help GLaDOS recover her memory. Meanwhile, various familiar puzzle elements appear, such as Rocket Turrets, Portals carrying momentum, and even the Companion Cube, all hinting at the past actions of both characters. Then, right as Chell finally gets to the surface exit, GLaDOS finally snaps, realizing exactly who she's been guiding throughout the facility. She quickly, and quite destructively, seals the exit, and brings Chell up close to finally kill her with a large crusher. But, just before impact, she remembers the time they'd spent getting to this point. Going on an adventure, exploring the facility's many sections, having fun along the way. All of this clashes with the sudden recollection of her past, as well as her own fiery destruction at the hands of her so-called "friend." She is torn by this moral dilemma, and doesn't know what to do. Then, she notices Chell looking for another way out and, out of panic, GLaDOS swings robotic arms over to grab Chell. She ends up missing, and caves in the floor below Chell. This leads into old Aperture. Unlike in the final game we got, GLaDOS does not come down here with us, thus never learning the truth of her creation. Later, after climbing back up to modern Aperture, Chell finds the facility in complete disarray, even more-so than before. Soon after returning, it's learned that GLaDOS assumed that she had killed Chell, but couldn't decide whether it was good or bad. This combined with the hard-wired "Testing Itch," mentioned in the final game we got, has driven her insane. Now the goal for Chell is to escape without GLaDOS noticing her presence, since there's no telling what GlaDOS would do if she found out Chell was still alive. After some searching around, Chell finds another surface elevator, and gets in. As the lift rises, GLaDOS sees Chell and desperately reaches for her with several robotic arms. The lift goes into the ceiling, prompting GLaDOS to frantically tear the ceiling to pieces. Everything appears to fall apart around Chell, and as she ultimately escapes the mechanical grasp of her captor, she hears the final desperate screams of GLaDOS' sanity, or what's left of it. "COME BACK HERE! YOU BETRAYED ME! YOU LEFT ME DOWN HERE WITH NOTHING! NO ONE TO TEST! NO ONE TO TALK TO! COME BACK! Come back! Come back. Come back..." Finally, the distant screams quiet down as Chell reaches the surface. END.
0:35-0:53 Everyone's talking about how scary walking glados is but I'm here explaining how quickly I would have uninstalled the game if this was in the game
I really love how everyone decided that this 0:59 was Wheatley crab even though there are no distinguishing features to tell us this is Wheatley. It’s even the wrong color
True, Wheatley was not a character in the Corehub era which is the era these animations were created. However, a unused character had a personality like Wheatley that would become Wheatley.
I think it takes away from the more inhuman side of her character though. Also, although this is more of a theme in portal 1 than portal 2, there's this general tone of isolation that wouldn't work as well with a more human like character
Sorry to ruin it for you, but I think the "party" she's talking about (where she says she used to be bigger) was the previous boss fight, and the item beginning with C was either 'Chell' or 'cake'.
To be fair, I would love to play this version of Portal 2, it looks super neat. Not to replace the other one, but just as a finished product of the original concept.
Imagine being an urban explorer and finding the facility. You walk into a massive chamber as a large humanoid structure hangs from the ceiling. It begins to twitch, then flail around un naturally making distorted screaming. Now that would be a nightmare.
It's kinda weird seeing GLaDOS with the exact same head from Portal 1 hanging from a single wire with a few other wires awkwardly sticking out of her body
@@ChaosCrystalArtist It looks like the original idea was for Glados, and maybe the rest of the facility to be in more severe decay, and her mind would be altered by time as well, explains why she can’t remember if her current, degraded form was bigger or not, and that you eat cake at parties, not cereal.
Pretty sure a few of her voice lines here are her playing back a memory of people's deaths. The scream before she said what was that, would have been people dying to the toxin, while she mocks them. And her screaming after asking if anyone smells something is burning would likely be Caroline being put into glados, as a smell of fire is a sign of damage to the brain or nervous system, hence how glados knew the core change would be painful.

But maybe in some far away future we'll get a more creepy Portal game, y'know... if Valve ever learns to count to three.
1:31
Ok so when I first saw this I came up with a thought.

I love the line where glados says “well. You found me” but my brain replaces it with “well, I found myself”
END.

"What was that? Did you say something? NEUROTOXIN. (Kof...kof, kof) So deadly...(Kof)...Choking..." That was my favorite part.
I wish they kept the entire "GLaDOS amnesia" section, could have been an interesting experience
