@ericvelasquez Penny’s career was hampered by injuries after Shaq left. If you watch the 30 for 30 about the magic, Shaq himself said he and Penny were Shaq and Kobe before Shaq and Kobe. He also admitted that he would’ve stayed in Orlando if he had a second chance. Penny’s style of basketball was a perfect compliment to Shaq. While Penny could score, he preferred to pass and he was always happy to pass the ball to Shaq in the post. Shaq admitted that he didn’t like playing with ball-centric guys like Kobe and D-Wade later on in his career
When NBA basketball 🏀 was worth watching, and Super Star players didn't miss games because of a mosquito bite, or scratch on there leg !! And Penny Hardaway was smooth, so elite and Talented, b4 knee injuries destroyed his career !
he had 3 seasons with appr.18 avg. His last 2 years in Detroit ans 1st year in SA. That was his peak. 2nd year as a Spur was a good digit as well, but he didn't play a lot of games.
David Robinson won this one on one matchup in the scoring and efficiency departments. This was also the first time that Shaq won a regular season game against the Spurs.
Shaq always struggled with Robinson until Robinson’s back injury. Robinson was a tough match up for Shaq. The spurs would clear out the side of the court that Robinson was on and let him go one on one with Shaq. Because Robinson had handles as a guard he could iso Shaq and blow past him for a dunk or layup. Robinson didn’t have great post moves but he had an explosive first step, could run the floor, shoot the face up jumper, move without the ball and he had elite handles. He had the best handles (him and Hakeem) for a center and even today would have the best handles for a center.

@@cheetahturner4576 He still got his #s but the difference was they made him work harder to get those points and on the other end a lot of them could stretch the floor which obviously was a problem for Shaq who didn't like going further out to defend.
He had a mental breakdown in the playoffs. The Spurs were the #1 seed playing #6 Houston and Rodman just started flipping out on his coach and team during the middle of games and refused to help Robinson guard Olajuwon, even though Hakeem was pretty much impossible for anyone to guard 1-on-1. So Hakeem went off and Robinson pretty much got the blame for the rest of his career even though it was mostly Rodman's sabotage. The Spurs likely would have won the title that year if Rodman didn't flip the psycho switch. That's why the Spurs pretty much gave him to the Bulls for nothing for the next season.
@@TrentonO3000 The Spurs lost the wcf because of the matchup not Rodman's antics. The Rockets were the stretching the floor from everywhere which made it difficult for the Spurs to pull off double teaming w/o paying for it most of the time. The Magic weren't able to figure it out in the finals either obviously.
I love watching Rodman highlights more so than any other NBA player, including Jordan, Bird, and Magic (and I do enjoy me some Jordan, Bird, and Magic highlights). B But Rodman, man oh man, he was such a joy to watch. His hustle, his absolute determination to grab every single rebound he could, the STYLE he had when he did rebound (he made rebounding LOOK cool), and all the other little things he would do when he was out there on the court. 👍
The Bulls will only push through the trade with Jordan and Pippen's consent. Dennis Rodman was part of the Bad Boys and the intense Bulls-Pistons rivalry (1988-91) remains fresh and personal. Phil Jackson listed Rodman as one of must-haves in the 1995 offseason to reinforce the frontline against Shaq. Knowing Rodman's antics very well, the Bulls also signed close pal Jack Haley while added John Salley and James Edwards to give that "Bad Boys" vibe (again, permitted by Jordan and Pippen). Then-GM Pop was that desperate to get rid of Dennis. And if there were other takers, he might wisely sent him to either of those teams except Chicago.

Yeah true but at least NY took 3 games from Houston and San Antonio took 2 games unlike Orlando who got swept . New York and SA did make it more interesting in spite of losing.
If Rodman hadn't suddenly refused to help guard Hakeem in the playoffs the Spurs likely would have beat them like they had in the regular season. Hakeem truly was great and unguardable straight up in the post, but he was getting help from Horry, Thorpe etc. on defense and Robinson was getting hung out to dry on the other end.
IDC what anyone says, this brand of NBA basketball is so much more compelling, entertaining and competitively driven than whatever version of the NBA that got going today. It's crazy how someone can't be intrigued by this type of basketball regardless of what era they grew up in.
Admiral was soo good in his prime, his back injury ended his prime. He became a very good center afterward. That was probably the best shape for Shaq, not too small but still bigger than everyone. Why SA let Rodman go, he was so good for them
Shaq had to actually guard other players at his position in this era instead of just roaming around that's why he looked so fit here. Also the Spurs were tired of Rodman's antics, if they had went to the finals and won that year they obviously would've kept him no matter what the Bulls got lucky.
Problem was, he was not smart enough to fully rehab his knee after he felt/heard that pop in 1996 1st round against Detroit. Continuing to play until ECF then Atlanta Olympics were probably understandable. Playing in the 1998 ASG despite not fully healed and against the doctors' orders cost him big time, although he managed to get a lucrative deal via sign-and-trade to Phoenix in 1999.
