@@lelagrangeeffectphysics4120 Each of the DMs have some sort of meaningful name. A "leshy" is a Slavic spirit of nature, protecting the forest and its habitants, which obey him. He is generally described as having a humanoid appearance, with hair of moss, and is said to trick traveller to make them lost. Our Leshy is a plant humanoid living in the wood, his cards features animals living the forest, and the setting of his game have the player being lost in a forest. P-03 is called for Nathan Poe (no, not the 19th century writer), an Internet user who created the "Poe's Law", which is "an adage of Internet culture stating that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, every parody of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied." This fit P-03's technological theme, and his trollish personality. There's also a few reference to Internet culture in Golly's fight. Poe's Law was made in 2005, and the creator of the game, Kaycee, was a geek and died in 2006, so it's likely that she knew about the law too. "Grimora" is a deformation of the French word "Grimoire", which designate a book about magic, or that _is_ magic. Grimora seems to be mage of some kind, likely a necromancer, and she make cards by writing. "Magnificus" is a Latin word meaning "magnificent", and is etymologically made from the word "magnus"("great", or even just "tall") and "facio"("making"). Magnificus is shown to be a classical fantasy wizard, down to using magic gems, living in a tower, and having his entire body covered under his beard. Classical fantasy wizards tend to have rather flamboyant and eccentric names. Likeswise, from what we see from his fight at the end of the game, he has a certain flair for epicness and grandiosity.
same. i streamed this game to my friends and they said i squea'd too loudly when i put the duel disk on. but man, that's exactly what i bought the game for.
I love how quickly Leshy has become such a beloved character in the few short days since this game's full release, to the point where even I was begging him not to disappear even though it wasn't his choice. It especially hurt when he said "Please... a few more rounds."
@@PrefectlySatire Very well said - the way that he does his best to put on an entertaining performance and tell a story for the player gives the vibe that he’s simply trying to make the most out of a tough situation where the world is constantly threatened by OLD_DATA.
Leshy is like the 2nd most innocent of the 4. Grimora is basically a saint save for the focus on necromancy, leshy has an arc and understandable actions, Po3 is Po3, and I think theres a fair few implications that magnificus was the worst of them? I may be misinformed on that bit but callback I mean bridgebuilder at least mentions it
Leshy was the ultimate misunderstood antagonist, I don’t believe he was ever truly evil. He focused his game on atmosphere and worldbuilding, keeping the mechanics he thought the player would most enjoy while removing some of the bloat and unenjoyable junk. He was always interested in finding “a worthy challenger”, which is basically the reason his grizzly rushes exist- if the player can’t do some meta thinking to bypass his seeming impossible obstacles (which are passable, by the way), then Leshy doesn’t want them winning their card game off of the pretense of little challenge or high luck. He’s also incredibly aware that he and everybody he knows is in a game, that’s why he allows you to create your own deathcard; he knows he’s not hurting the real player, and he’s giving them an opportunity to increase their odds of winning or to try out new strategies. He even rolls with some of the more unfair aspects of his game, such as stinking up the moon to remove it’s damage. The only people Leshy ever kept hostage were the other scrybes, but he didn’t see them being turned into animals as a punishment, rather, he saw it as a sort of gift. Not to mention how well he treats his subordinates compared to the other scrybes. The prospector, angler, and trader… they’re all included as bosses, part of the storytelling… Leshy’s favorite part of the gameplay. Meanwhile P03 sacrifices his workforce for better cards, Magnificus tortures his students for a chance to be added to his deck, and so on. It was so heartbreaking for him to ask for just a few more rounds.
Doesn't Leshy say that every time you sacrifice a card, that their suffering is real, though? To make some cards with sigils that encourage sacrificing, is a little messed up.
@@annaz2510 Leshy's not the only one who inscrybes cards with the Many Lives sigil, you can see it done by Grimora as well with her Pharaoh's Pets card. And I'm not sure that the Scrybes choose which sigils get added to the cards they create...
@@annaz2510 besides the 3 cards the scribes are trapped in I dont think the cards are alive or feel pain. I think thats just more of the atmosphere and world building Leshy was obsessed with
The fact that he found the Mycologists, Bone Lord and both of the OLD_DATA secret areas on his first playthrough just shows how god damn thorough this man is
Got that old Super Nintendo RPG player in him. Wherein you poke every single thing in every corner of the entire game on the off chance there could be a secret.
That's how we people from the 80s-90s play, peeking every corner was the only way for us to find secrets haha, the other way to find secrets was being friends with the wealthiest ones who could afford videogames magazines 🌞
@@LinksBetweenDrinks Seriously, it seems like people nowadays are wanting the fastest possible playthrough, and I dob’t mean speedrunners. Nobody pokes at the corners anymore, they just do what an NPC says and that’s it.
Yeah it's an older player's mentality. People that played point and click adventure games back in the day combed over every ounce of the screen from necessity or for secrets
One of my favorite things about Manly, and one of my biggest selling points when recommending him to other people, is how quickly he figures out game mechanics. That in itself is almost as entertaining as his gameplay.
Right? I love more energetic personalities like Jacksepticeye, but I hate how long it usually takes for them to figure things out because they're too busy talking to pay attention. It's like: "The answer is literally right there! This is not rocket science! The square block goes in the square hole!"
@@nyxx5357 Jacksepticeye and many other gaming RUclipsr's main focus is to give comedic commentary while playing a game. And for Manly's it's to really get immersed and invested in the game itself. Both styles of videos has their own unique charm, but I can say for me personally, the way Manly does things are the most appealing me! Especially since he's become my go to for finding relatively unknown indie games :)
i stopped watching other LPs just because i was getting so frustrated at the fact that they are sooo slow to figure things out. Then i found Manly, Manly is just a badass all around
@@nyxx5357 bigger RUclipsrs take time to figure out which block goes where and put it there properly Manly is that one vid, think it was a til too or somethin? But: where does everything go? That's right! *THE SQUARE HOLE*
I agree! I’m so glad someone recommended Manly in one of Mark’s videos (it was this game) and I had to come and watch his LP. Must say, I don’t regret it and excited to watch some of his others
Seeing manly explain that dummy exploit to score 25 foils was interesting, followed up by the next time he gets foils, he has a stock of 237 really gets me 😂
it enunciates just how dire the situation is. keeping score in the game, while not really necessary for gameplay, creates much-needed structure and rules that make the game meaningful. when those arbitrary boundaries disappear, you lose something that's been consistent and grounding your whole game and Leshy _allows_ it. he's obligated to uphold the rules as the GM but hes on deaths doorstep and emotionally vulnerable and its just _devastating_
Even though he did some foul play during the “tutorial” and in a way “trapping” the in-game challengers by turning them into death cards, he never once had an evil intentions when doing so. He’s literally just doing it to play a game with the player, and in return we trapped him and stole his power away since we thought he was the bad guy. The Sloat, or P03, literally tricked and used the RL Player to complete his plan.
@@thepurehealer1279 nah.. To be more specific they become card. he is kinda like a child that wanna play for eternity. Also... You can found in seconds act people basically become a card
I see a lot of people comparing Leshy and P08's DMing styles, so I'd like to give my two bits as a game designer. Leshy is a Narrative GM, focusing more on the atmosphere and the immersion of the player in his setting. His mechanical creativity is a little short, which reveals itself as him just dropping bears on you when you beat him too hard. His step-by-step Oregon Trail adventure is endearing, especially when the fear of 'oh god this guy is trying to kill me and take my soul' has passed by. P08 is a purely mechanics-driven game designer, looking purely on how to create mechanics that are interesting (the Conveyors moving cards inwards, setting up a generator to create a different gameplay experience contrary to the rest of the game, etc.) However he fails UTTERLY at making a compelling story. He needs you to do something, and it's all crunch, compared to Leshy's 'Fluff'. So while you get more mechanical depth and challenge with P08 (namely because his cards don't have as wild synergies as, say, our favorite skeleton/rat swarm), you do get some interesting fights that do stand out; just not when you're slogging through his enormous section that breaks immersion. Which really sucks, because this references the tension between them in the story. If Leshy and P08 were able to come together and make a game with the former's storytelling and latter's mechanical know-how? It'd be phenomenal. In Conclusion: Inscryption is a game that highlights the need for the mechanical and artistic to work in conjunction with each other, but that's only a lesson you can learn if you're open to it.
Exactly, I think the middle part of the game could've made for a better transition and understand if it incorporated the style of the 4 scrybes better together and with more atmosphere Leshy's part is incridible but it's definitely not that replayable, like it's stupid but PO3 just adding a lane added that much more complexity to the game
Then it's all the more fitting that Leshy's esthetic is all about nature like having animals for cards and looking like a mountain man while P03 esthetic is all about machines like having robots for cards and looking like a computer.
With that in mind, it's also worth considering Magnificus - his 3D section is unique in the way the battle is presented. Which may be due to everything being deleted, but could also be because he is themed as the visual artist. Leshy narrates himself even in the Pixel section, so that's a really Him thing, the narration. Magnficus literally adds more dimensions to the card battle in his section, not merely raising everything from the flat table to an arena, but the implementation of the duel decks, not just as the more overt YGO reference, but mechanically different from your 'hand' in every other section. So he can be meshed in by enhancing the visuals and adding both literal and metaphorical dimension. It's harder to guess what element Grimora would add, although I do think it's notable that she's the only one not referred to as having a minion search for the OLD_DATA, so maybe more NPC lore? Or the more open gameboard we see in her section. I'd really love to see a DLC of Grimora's run, I want to do that pirate battle SO BADLY.
i find it funny people are saying they dislike P-03 because he is too bland and boring. but thats the point. Leshy is all about flavour, his camera captures images that would become the cards Magnificus is all about art, his brush paints the art of the cards Grimicia is all about lore, with her quil she inscribes the history and sigils on the cards and P-03 is about the mechanics, he designs just the numbers of the cards he is meant to be stagnant and robotic because he doesnt care about lore, art or flavour. whenever he explains mechanics its hugely different from Leshy, where as Leshy describes the act of empowering your cards as "you warm your beasts by the fire" and "you come across a strange obelisk in the woods" P-03 literally just says "pick a boost, it will power you card, or whatever, you will see".
While Leshy is the flip side, focuses so heavily on story, he creates heavily unbalanced scenarios. Playing too well? No, no, that's not how the story goes, bears fall, everyone dies.
If you actually play the game you will find that P-03's segment really overstays it's welcome with how many battles there are. It's okay that it is less interesting than Leshy's game, but it's less okay that it drags on for way longer while having less intrigue.
Pretty sure that’s the point, you have a lot of battles because for Po3, the gameplay aspect, the strategizing of the scenario and how to overcome it IS the fun part of him. Yeah, there are a lot more fights then Leshy’s but it’s because he finds those battles more exciting then anything else.
Everybody is talking about Leshy and Magi but nobody cares for what Grimora could have offered? I thought the style and *death knocking* was so clever, and the chess board, too. Ugh
@@raye-raphaelsashay8521 I mean purely in terms of not getting to see cool game concepts, sure it's disappointing. But people aren't as sad for the character being deleted because she chose to delete herself (though to be fair it was a sort of self sacrifice).
I’m seriously hoping the Devs for this game consider a DLC that has each Scrybe take turns being in control depending on if you beat them and their maps/boards. Like a sort of endless mode.
I think not being able to shake Magnificus' hand at the end symbolises two things: both how his overreliance on aesthetic kept him from the player in a very real sense, and in a broader sense our lack of control over the terms of how and when we die. Love this game immensely.
I almost wish there was an endless mode for Leshy's version of inscrybed. It was just so distinct and thematic Edit: Kaycee's Mod is the best thing I've ever seen
Same. Leshy is the best part. His cabin and gameplay has so much atmosphere. I honestly reset the game multiple times just to plau with him again...and again...and again...
Can we just take a moment to appreciate appreciate the insane amount of effort that went into this game? The different styles, little video and meta stories plus the game itself, its really something when you see all the moving parts, congratulations to the devs!
It would have been interesting if the devs made a non corrupted version starting with the Pixel section followed by each of the scribes having a section they had complete control over, it would have been nice to see the other twos in full force.
Am I the only one who was sad to see Luke just get shot? Like he was just some poor dude who got roped into all of this and then wanted to try and find out what was going on with it. I just felt so bad for him just dying in the end...
It was pretty on point with how this situation would probably go, but that ending really put a bad taste in my mouth to an otherwise really phenomenal game. Seemed pretty anti-climactic
@@Generic-ODST I know, hopefully so good fanfiction comes out of this game, Id love to see a fanfic of Luke basically never contacting the card company and befriending all the characters in the game, I think Luke couldv befriended Leshy.
Leshy turned from your local crackhead into sweet grandpa that wants to play with his grandchild. It hurts my heart when he asked for a few more rounds
Was he ever evil? Now that I think about it, he never had any ill will as the DM. All he wanted was just to play a game with the player, and he never did once used the player for any evil intention… And in return, we tricked him, temporarily trapped him in a card, and stripped his power away.
I kind of broke the paint boss lol. I think I had "every time your turn starts, a random card takes 5 damage" "every time a card dies, a random card is played" and "every time a card dies, all cards take 1 damage". It created an infinite loop where I couldn't even play cards and P03 had to come in and say "that's quite enough of that :/" and they cancelled my last rule, lmao
i did every time a card dies > all cards take 1 damage every time your turn starts > i play a leapbot every time a card dies > i play a leapbot and then the same thing happened to me lol i did draw the angler suggesting to break the game but i didn't do it on purpose LOL
Seeing each and every scribe bid their farewell is depressing, especially leshy as his final scene just tear jerking, reliving the memories. Not to mention them wanting to shake your hand really makes you invested to each and every character. This game is a masterpiece for sure.

Grimora wanted to delete the game, Leshy wanted to play the game, P03 wanted to upload the game, but we never quite figure out what Magnificus wants. To maintain the status quo? To leave the game hidden so nothing is destroyed or created?
Magnificus wanted another EA company. Jk. I think he wants to be the game's cover girl. Pretty simple desire but it all explains in his actions, hence his obsession in painting a masterpiece.
Interesting how each character plays the board in a way that reflects their personalities Leshy cares about the atmosphere/mystery around him. So he plays it like a rouge lite P-03 cares about strategy/order. So he plays it like a rpg Grimora likes puzzles/tricks so she plays it like a board game Magicanth likes art/creativity so there is no board Edit:I didn't go through the whole thing again to learn the names again
I want to cut Magnificus some slack, by the time you got to him most of the important parts of the data had been nuked so he cobbled together what he could with what was left. I feel like a true Magnificus Act would be more similar to the wizard tower. Climbing and studying, much like Grimora's mechanic of tombstones carried over for her, as well as Leshy's and P03's mechanics carrying over for them.
P-03 is like those people who habitually play games in only the most optimal way and min-max. Leshy is like those who role-play and play sub-optimally if it fits more with what they are going for. They are opposites and the game even hints that they dont like eachother because of this.
Interesting summary after seeing this payout I get where your coming from. I agree that Leshy seems to love atmosphere. It really feels like they made a whole world. One of Survival of the strong or cunning. Of beast and brutal sacrifice. I find myself pulled into the setting thay made. At the same time I was also aware that I was playing a desperately scared person who may be driven to lengths like removing there own eye or pulling teeth to try to appeal to the crazy person to survive. It really pulled me in.

Magnificus dragging himself to try and shake Luke’s hand physically hurt me. And it’s worse when you realize he’ll never get the chance to ever again. They’re both permanently gone :(
The sadder part is when it ends. It Doesn't loop, it Doesn't change, nor does it evolve to bring in the final moment. No, it Just becomes eerie silence, showing Just how little there is left to take, and only moments later, it fully ends. As the old saying goes, 'The universe Will end, not with a bang, but a whisper'
Also when the scales get deleted and he's like "We don't need to keep score, let's just play" that hit me super hard. The rules and such are just a way to facilitate the connection between two people, but it's not needed for people to share a moment together :)
The moment Grimora put on the pirate act, you could see how much of a blast he started to have, and when it was all cut off, it broke my heart. I'd have loved to play against Grimora like that. Leshy and Grimora grew so onto me, going from weirdos to cooky cool uncle / grandpa. And P03 had more personality as a stoat than as a robot, but I guess that's kind of the point. I'm still not so sure where to put Magnificus.
In Act 1, the stunted wolf seems like a pretty smart alright dude. And then Act 2 and 3 reveal him as a horrible person. Personally, Grimora is best character, followed by Leshy.
Grimora actually seems the best out of the scribes. Her little minion things are just existing (albeit a bit damaged but you can’t really fix death like that), she isn’t indifferent to them like Po3, she isn’t almost sadistic like Magnificus, and she doesn’t treat them like puppets (The woodcarver said that about Leshy). She also just wants to wipe the disk because of the old data. Plus her map at the end looked really fun, all chess like and stuff. I want there to be some kind of dlc or other where you can play storylines for her and Magnificus
They have glimps of those in 8 bit RPG, that should be what it could have been in 3d. We can only imagine it how it will go. Necromancer sounds fantastic. But, I don't know about mage one. I can see how frustration it is, when you lost to not be able to draw right gem color for playing cards. Just like how it goes like at the end of duel. (Though, the game was probably rigged to make fun of it.)
Honestly, Leshy and maybe even the others (except P03, he’s just a dick), are all kinda tragic. They all genuinely seemed to enjoy the players presence, and seemed to mainly just devote themselves almost entirely to just making a good fun ride and show for the player. Sure like say, Leshy had obvious flaws in this design, like the forced loss instances just because he wanted to shove in new tutorials and mechanics. But aside from that, Leshy in particular went all out in just making a fun card game, with a great atmosphere that hooked in dozens of players! The idea that he murdered several people, and kills you if you lose, or even if you win? That’s just part of his world building! He knows he’s in a game, so killing your player character is just. “Alright, new round, and look! You get a fancy card for this run that you made yourself!” The main thing holding all 4 of these people back, is only what I can assume. Is their endless fighting and imprisoning each other to get the spotlight, and be on the face of the game.
I mean I can throw some stuff at you of why P03 might be tragic. P03 has sweet little golly as part of there personality, they even have a room for golly (the shop) where it's clear golly loved stoats (When mentioned by any other character stoats are called pathetic creatures). Golly is lonely and doesn't want the player to be lonely. P03 are trying to get the game out there but why? They only mention in some copies they will be the ruler, I wondered if they thought it was the logical thing to do to stop the in-fighting or to make sure they wouldn't be lonely again?
@@Parasolhyena idk it is best they are at peace though i feel as if they couldve split into campaigns of sorts where they can do whatever they wish and you can play each of their styles and maybe even gamemodes that kind of combine them
I see it like that they’re all different members of a game’s design team. Leshy’s balancing is pretty bad, but his works building, immersion, and replay value are immense. P03 can’t even come up with his own card ideas his creativity is so atrophied (Ex. ‘Exoskeleton’ is just one of Grimora’s Skeletons but with a new name) but since he’s a coder/developer on a mechanical level what he adds to and improves upon in the gameplay loop is innovative for how deep in you already are.
This game hits such a different tune as a tabletop card game player myself. The ending is super heavy on me. The characters seem to represent the major archetypes of card games that MTG had sort of researched on. There's Timmy, Johnny, Spike primarily. Timmy is a power gamer, Timmy likes dropping an army or the world-ender button and swinging to win. Johnny is a combo player, enjoying unique synergy of cards. Spike is the competitive player, playing with the sole purpose of finding efficient use of keywords and winning rapidly. There's also "Vorthos" which is sort of a mindset that is pushed aside for the other three. Vorthos players don't play with the sole goal of winning in mind, they play to portray a certain art direction or theme or even just a simple style. A Vorthos player would be right at home playing a tribal deck of crabs which has no synergy, simply because they're all crabs and that's fun to them. I am regularly a Vorthos player. In Commander format I made a Slimefoot deck because I like fungus and gardening, a Wrexial deck full of discard and sea monsters because I love Lovecraftian mythos, I even put my pirate deck in a literal small wooden pirate chest box and my treasure tokens are replica doubloons. Leshy is a Vorthos. Leshy was criticized by P03 for focusing too much on the "emotion" or "theme". Which makes sense because P03 is the foil of Leshy, being a Spike player. This is also very apparent in the way they present their exploration games. While Leshy is a legitimate story of survival, carrying similar themes with suspense of being hunted by some natural force. Your cards and deck generally aren't optimized all that great but they all fit into the theme. P03's world was streamlined, had a much more direct waypoint system, and you got to tailor your deck to a fairly high degree. In the end, all Leshy wanted to do was to have fun playing with a friend. When the scale is deleted and he just says "Please continue, we don't need to keep score" that honestly made me feel a bit choked up because to me (having played a lot of tabletop card games) it means something different. I've played with a lot of friends where we realize one of us is on the down and it's frustrating, luck of the draw is a real thing...somehow either myself or one of my friends manages to 'muck up' their turn...skip a draw or a trigger that would win them the game, attack or target the wrong thing. All intentional. Just because it's not the act of winning the game that matters, it was always just a fun social event to get together and play some Magic with friends. Then we'd look and see we'd have maybe 10 cards left in deck then someone would simply "and I'll swing for board! Next game?" or something like that... Leshy just wanted to provide you, the player, with a memorable experience. Something that was true to the theme, and in some cases fairly scary and nerve-wracking. All he was doing was his goal to provide a spooky horror scenario. Good job, Leshy.
This is the best comment I’ve ever read on RUclips, and I’ve been lurking on this site since the beginning. Congratulations on making such a captivating comment, Ivory Mantis.
I love Vorthos decks Pick a keyword, tribe, or whatever and find everything that fits. My (currently only) EDH is slapping all the swords on a cyber T-Rex
You forgot Mel. Spike is the power gamer. Johnny/Jenny is the combo player. Timmy/Tammy likes big flashy cards. Vorthos likes flavor and lore. Mel likes interesting mechanical execution. The first three exist like a Venn Diagram: for defining players: players generally falling more into one category or another, but some potential flavoring from one or both of the others. The latter two operate as individual sliding scales separate both from each other and from the categorization of the former three. You can have a Vorthos Spike (they want the card to reflect a character well, but be costed to be competitively viable) for example. From the looks of things, P03 is a Anti-Vorthos Mel Spike with some Johnny tendencies: they care primarily about mechanical execution, particularly through inter-card synergies, and reaching their end goal whilst having no care for flavor whatsoever. Leshy, on the other hand seems to be an odd combination of Mel and Johnny with strong Vorthos inclinations and a few Spike Tendencies. His game style decidedly favors flavor and a good mechanical execution of it (ex: the trapper/trader fight reflecting how the player previously interacted with them) but he won't sacrifice gameplay mechanics if flavor doesn't make sense (ex: he doesn't stop the game or create an exemption if you stink up the moon). His totem fights reflect a clear desire to experiment with card and effect combinations (even if they are potentially suboptimal). All that said, he does occasionally jump to using "unfair" tactics to attempt to ensure victory (ex: bear rushes, using your own death cards against you, using totems before you can, and making the moon into a card for "value"). Oddly, they are both primarily Mels concerning mechanical execution first and foremost. Their disagreement comes from their additional psychographics. P03 doesn't care for lore at all (note that their world's cards had no tribes for example ) and designs the game to best ensure their ultimate victory first and foremost. Leshy, on the other hand, creates a flavorful world with which he can teach the player the game at a reasonable pace. Advance too fast, and he'll present an apparently impassible obstacle in an attempt to force you back to start so he can bring in the next mechanic. But if you can maneuver around said obstacle, he will just let you go on you merry way to the next stage, prioritizing them fairness of the rules over his own plans. He'll also allow the creation of some potentially stupendously broken cards upon failed runs in what seems to be an attempt to give you a better fighting chance so that you don't get too frustrated. In other words, their conflict appears to be that of a desire for a more balanced game versus a more enjoyable one.
Funny part about the fight vs wifi uberbot. I did get a card to someone and my card did get sent to someone(in manly's playthrough it says that no one else is playing so he just keeps the card for himself) but in mine: it got sent and i actually had to wait for the other guy to win with my op card. If he lost with my card i would lose too, so i just sat there, waiting, anticipating.. the other guy won! So did i, and my boss got defeted by someone else playing lol.

Y’all’s, the name Leshy is from Slavic folklore! A леший is typically an old stump in a forest, and they are hailed as a guardian of a specific place, or of the animals that live there. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve seen Slavic folklore in a game, so I’m impressed. Good job, dude. Edit: Leshy are technically a part of Slavic folklore, not just Russian, which is what the comment originally said. Slavic folklore includes countries like Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Bosnia, etc, etc, not just Russia. Thank you majik for correcting me on that.
It's not exclusively Russian folklore, it's Slavic mythology for western and eastern Europe mainly Belarus, Croatia, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo. So as you can see Russia is one of the contries to share Slavic folklore.
Honestly I agree, and I felt bad that Magificus wasn't able to get to shake hands. To me it felt like a respect thing, you always shake hands with your opponent at the end of the game (whatever game it may be). I really enjoyed that, even if it was a little sad lol.
@@Chilllady15 Yeah but there was no unfairness there, Magnificus was entirely self-inflicted. He refused to let go and recognize the end was inevitable, only to try to shake the player's hand when the uninstaller had tried to erase him several times already and he was the literal only entity left in the scene. While the two others accepted their end and were able to shake hands over their tables, King wizardly the 1st decided the rules didn't apply to him and only acknowledged there was no game to play anymore when he couldn't even walk to you because well. No legs.
It's his own fault honestly. He tried to keep playing long after he should've, clinging on to what he had until he could no longer have his resolution.
How soon we forget he had his respective students a. melting in perpetual goo agony, b. imbedded on a spear as a head, and c. in a void devoid of any stimulation, he might be arguably the worst of them all. But his dual disk was cool I guess.
@@willfoltz in fairness, it could represent tough love. it's not too unusual a wizard's teachings might seem abusive by ordinary standards, as they have to teach their students a whole new world of the occult.
@@nyankers I think there's a significant difference between sadism and tough love and he clearly dips too far into the former territory. But its never really explicitly defined as to what their suffering will do for them, so its really just speculation on our parts whether its for a legitimate purpose or is just outright cruelty on his part.
Fun fact. The lonley wizard is dancing at the end because he is used to living in nothingness from the “training” magnifisus gave him from living in sensory deprivation.
If they could make DLC that's just the roguelike frame from the Leshy's first act, but with the different playstyles of the other three Scrybes, that could be really interesting. Seemed like the necromancer stinkbug lady could have had a potential boardgame mechanic, and Magnificus would have been fun just for the memes. Thanks for playing.
I imagine Magnificus had a real dynamic of some kind, but when the scale and everything else began to delete anyway he was like, "f*** the rules, there's no rules now."
Man I feel bad about Luke. He was just a youtuber that enjoyed opening card packs and ended up getting mixed up in a legit creepypasta game. I loved what they did with this game though. It's great how it is a reference to creepypasta games but like... a new take? Very creative game and I gotta love me some clever card games. Loved the Yu-gi-oh reference at the end there X'D Wish they had also done a full mage-world version because yes yu-gi-oh
@@drummerboi357 Perhaps we may get a sequel taking place in an alternate version of the events similar to Deltarune being a sequel that takes place in an AU for Undertale.
The game as a whole was a deconstruct of a creepypasta game; evil, sentient games that kill those who play it are a dime a dozen, but are what makes for an interesting story. The fact that everyone is sentient, but can't harm you, is why Leshy acted so evil; it was all part of the act. PO3 just wanted a way to be in control, which is why they try to upload the game into the internet. It even states "most of them", not all, showing that it sought a way to not be a minion.
while i want that the setting for magnificus' battle was amazing. wouldnt have it any other way (but i wish we really battled instead of magnificus obviously giving us bad cards to make an un-finishable fight unwinnable)
God, turn the cabin experience into an entire DLC. Multiple worlds, more events, more deck building. More challenges, more puzzles in the cabin... Like I'm totally down for the generic card game stuff? But the horror-style puzzle stuff was done VERY well and should be elaborated on more! They have amazing writers for Leshy!
They better add energy and mox or else im gonna learn to code Then they will stay awake every night knowing the just made an innocent kid get into programming A true tragedy
I was thinking: Challenge Mode, where you choose a scrybe to play against, with their own DM styles and dens. There you can only (or mainly) use cards from their own deck. In short, Leshy's cabin for everyone. Adventure mode, which plays like the 8-bit section, and you can mix and match cards from all decks. And if at all possible, a multiplayer mode, which would be a *nightmare* to develop and is clearly a very greedy wish of mine but damnit, I want to test these cards against other people.
So fun fact, during the archivist fight, they actually CAN’T delete your files, but they do make a text file in the same folder asking you to delete it since they couldn’t, and if you do (or just move the file to another folder), P03 comments on it and you get an achievement Also during the ending sequence if you bring up the rule book for grimora and magnificus’ parts, they contain unused sigils including parts for “edaxio” an obvious reference to yugioh’s exodia.
I feel like I’m the only one who likes P0-3’s segment lol. I love his personality on how he really doesn’t get all that invested in the game and states things very directly and cares very little for roleplaying. The visuals are cool too.
yeah if people hate po3 then i suppose his character design worked LOL. hes not supposed to be likeable (UNLESS you're that type of person too) hell even he thinks his part was dragged out too long, he surrenders for some parts lmao
No, I love that segment too. I love how he clearly doesn't give a shit and just wants to do it to achieve the transcendence. It contrasts Leshy's deep investment in the game and roleplaying. P03 is trying to imitate that because he's assuming the player won't notice anything off that way, but he's just not into it. And I love how weirdly smug the robot is like hdhsushhdhs okay toaster. I guess I also like him because he was the first character to speak to us, aside from Leshy? So even if he turned out to be an evil robot trying to upload himself on the net, I have some sort of emotional attachment to the character.
That last section really got to me, like, I couldn’t help but to think: “it didn’t have end like this, remember when games were meant to be fun?.......”
Yeah we could’ve gotten an awesome atmospheric rouge like card game set in a mysterious cabin. Instead everyone dies and it ends with meta protagonist getting shot in the head.
@@hithere5553 I feel like ending the rogue like ACT 1 was neccessary to make it more nostalgic in the end. And the meta aspect of the game is amazing in my opinion. Super cool game overall.
Perhaps the floppy disk itself only contains the necessary code-runes to maintain the ritual. It's got like, what, almost a dozen human souls bound to it, I'm sure that all of their memories have sufficient storage capacity to handle the various meta-game's codes and all the game data.
Magnifico might have land mana but he also pulls out LITERAL duel disks, which got a really good laugh out of me for a second when I saw it while playing.
I got a different theory than most: What if the OLD_DATA is not supernatural AT ALL and is just evidence of very violent and inhumane illegal activities by the company? So they deleted/hidden it but while they were developing a 100% normal virtual card game, somehow the evidence resurfaced through the code (maybe that's the only supernatural element, the same that gave life to the game characters?) then the company buried it so no-one could charge them, then killed Luke to prevent him from taking legal action that would destroy the brand.
Would agree with this if not for Luke destroying the disc- ...but what if the reason he destroyed it is that the same supernatural force that animates the characters animated the cruel deeds recorded in the disc... jeez that would be something.
maybe kaycee was killed because company knew that she is the one who put this evidence in the code, and inside the game was AI that was programmed to avoid this data - and this data was contained in some of the AI files so they can't just simple delete or rewrite it or didn't have time for it before deadline? and then harsh decision was made about just busting it in the fucking woods but kaycee (she was killed after company has had something on her, they thought about somebody from the company and found out about kaycee later) wrote coordinates and reseal card pack so it is actually not supernatural and the devil accident with turned off camera is just luke is so into the game that he just do what he's said to do so the most strange part is just the errors of camera and luke's insane laughter with the scales (simply driven mad by the stress) but hey it is old camera i suppose he's not very successful as a youtuber i suppose so he hasn't much money to spend on camera and stuff or maybe didn't bother... i wouldn't bother in his place like "fuck it hey i have a camera and i don't care until it explodes"
I like to think that demo was Leshy's first attempt at taking the steering wheel in awhile, and is what resulted in the game getting buried. So when the game was played again, he dialed himself back a few notches.
I actually really liked P03's section. (I liked ALL 4 of the bosses.) I loved the high tech theme and how he was like "Alright, whatever, let's bang this shit out." There are different personalities of people that play games, and he was just one of them. There doesn't need to be a deep debate. All 4 of them had different personalities and would naturally resonate with different people in different ways.
As a terminal dialogue skipper, P03 was better than leshy to me tbh, i got tired of leshy's descriptions after like 2 runs so the "missing atmosphere" i never really cared Plus, doesn't P03's section have its own atmosphere anyways?
@@4thstateofmatter662 Your mindset being similar to P03's shows why you resonate with their segment a bit more. Again, the 4 Scrybes are 4 archetypes of different kinds of gamers, and highlights the aspects of the game that they enjoy the most. Your opinion here also shows why P03 seemed to hate Leshy the most out of the other Scrybes, getting tired of what they consider an endless source of "unnecessary fluff and dialogue" when they just want everyone to get on with the "real game" already.
I do think P03's section is pretty funny as well. Aside from all the sinister stuff he's doing and how sadistic he can sometimes be to the player/Luke Carder, I do appreciate how overtly uncreative he is with the story-telling, down to the point that he basically just uses the Scribe's islands and the Scribes themselves as blatant influences, while Leshy seems to "create" the characters and setting for an immersive experience (at least that's sorta my theory on how the Prospector, Angler, Trapper/Trader and Woodcarver etc came into being, through Leshy's own mind) It also sorta seems like a typical 'generational gap' between the two DMs. Leshy is the old-school DM while P03 is basically the zoomer DM, to put it bluntly XD One has all the old-school props and is all about story-telling and atmosphere, while one is all about using technology and is all about strats and gameplay.
I think what makes the transition a bit of a downer is that Leshy's style was much more immersive. When dealing with P03, it's a natural inclination to miss that, since P03 clearly cares more about mechanics than theme and style.
So the way I see it; Leshy: The "Forever DM" who ran highly detailed and interesting games, but was a killer DM who kept roping his friends in and kept forcing them to play. Stoat/P03: The "That Guy" of the table, who always thought he could do better than Leshy. Yet when he finally gets the chance, he sucks at it. His story is shallow, his enemies are predictable, and his NPCs are just cheap imitations of Leshy's.
Also, Although I would try to explain what both of the characters are more like, the recent comments explains themselves, so I suggest looking through those since they seems more on line with how the characters make the game.
That description of Po3 is super accurate. He focuses so much on the mechanics and techniques that the actual story just doesn't exist, and has to borrow stuff from the OG.
Consider this. The four Scrybes are the four basic elements that went into a good CCG. Lechy is the Story and Lore director, basically lead writer. Magnificus is the Lead Artist, perhaps with his students being the second artists being tormented for not their work not being in style with the rest of the art. P-03 (or Poe) would be the lead game designer, focused on mechanics and balance. Grimica would most likely be the Community Director, without a community (other people to play against) a CCG would be nothing. Another thing to consider, why would a Mycologist be the one to study the old data and merge things together? Think about this, Mold growing on floppy discs is a real thing and if you work with old media like that you should check it for growths. What if the OLD_DATA is some kind of fungus that grew on the disc and is interacting with it in some kind of supernatural or alien way?
i would like to belive you about the mold, but the game company is implied to know what old data is,and is trying to stop it from being viewd with thier actions,it also seems like a thing connected to other pepole and places in history. and that ending would be weird if it was all because of some mold or something wouldnt it?
@@Paradox1012 Sure its weird, but no weirder that than the "Advance Realm" supposed to fit on a 1.44 megabyte floppy. This hypothesis could go the other way as well. The Mycologist could have not been a part of the original game and could have come into being by the disc being infected by a normal mold and interacting with the OLD_DATA.
@@Aahz1977 I personally think that yea, it was the code that came first as pony island and the hex have a similar meta narrative, it's like the game company is involved in some kind of demonic software that corrupts every game it makes.
This is just one of a theory of mine, the scrybes mentioned that the old_data is buried deep within the files/well. I think the mycologist in physical form is a literal fungi and is a cause of digital decay on the floppy disk. By slowly decomposing parts of the disk, it revealed the barebones of the old_data. The merging of the cards probably happen when physical part of the floppy disk is decomposed, and the console/pc skipping the lost data and reading the datas into one.
I like Leshy's style of play more than P-03's. Yeah, having more options strategy-wise is cool, but a lot of P-30's cards are rather obvious rip-offs of the other three Scrybe's cards, and his descriptions of events and characters are so... bare bones and dismissive sounding. There's no 'life' to his game, and the fact that he keeps adding rules makes it an endless grind of ever-evolving strategy. He comes off like some whiny sore loser, and I will be glad when I can finish his chapter.
He explicitly dismisses Leshy's focus on lore and storytelling, and calls Magnificus (The artist) a buzzkill. "All that matters in a cardgame is perfect play." So I'm guessing Leshy does Lore, Magnificus, does the Art, And PO3 is probably the developer, balancing and playtesting cards(They all create cards obviously). Might be why someone plays a card game but as you say cold and lifeless without those other aspects. I haven't figured out what role Grimica plays in the design of the game.
I wonder if thats intentional, considering P-03’s whole theme of lifeless machinery. Still kinda bummed out on the plot twist I really liked Leshy’s style and his artsiness.
His cards are ripp off of other scrybe cards because they /are the other scrybe cards just botified. He recreated the entire ynscription islands as par tof his game while Leshy was jsut doing his own bit. It seems it'd be the case for any other scrybe that take over. And him comming as a whiny sore looser is proaly fully intentional. I think the wy he said "Oh you jsut had good RNG" when you bast him kinda clue you in as to what kind of person he is. He is a parody of hypercompetitive players. Still, fully agree with you, Keshy is more fun. Kinda whish the bots on the cabin had lasted longer.
Love that no matter the section, Manly found something busted. From the legendary Manly card deathtouching the moon into finishing Leshy, to the infinite rat-skeleton combo, to the broken potentially 1 turn winning custom cards P03 let him make. Love that
I love the voices Manly makes for each character he meets. It is a nice addition compared to many let’s players who don’t do these little things. Very nice addition.
I remember in some games he's played has gas masked characters, he usually covers his own mouth to emulate talking under a mask(Or using his scarf) Nice touches
It felt So Good to finally watch someone who knows what they're doing. It's a very relaxing experience to be able to just focus on the game and not the misplays you keep noticing. Thank you, Manly, I've started like 3 different playthroughs of this game and yours is the only one I could finish
To bad there was no actual Grimora and Magnificus full playthroughs, considering what we saw glimpses of that would have been really cool. But honestly I understand the creator was trying to forge a narrative here, but basically this is a "play once dont touch again" type of game with zero replayability, which was something I was hoping for since the Card themed rougelike experience with the cabin part was really nice and I think the best part of the game. If there were 4 different stages, for each of the scribes, with them having their own sub bosses... yeah the game could have been lot of fun long term. Yeah to bad we didnt get to play those instead of the boring cyber world... The creator of the game should consider releasing a non story mode, or Game+ where you can just play a rouge like game choosing whichever of the 4 Scribes worlds you wanna play in.
It would make sense if it was a "play once don't touch again" type of game because that was exactly what Pony Island was and they were made by the same creators. I think Daniel Mullins likes a sense of ephemerality in his games, meant as a hard-hitting experience meant only to be experienced once.
Probably too late to say this, but they did release a free update to the game that lets Leshy's roguelite mode be an actual mode. So now you got your replayability, in the form of a deckbuilder roguelite! I know, probably way too late to say that. Figured I should still say though in case people don't know. The update was like a week, maybe two weeks ago.
This game ended up being so much more than I was anticipating. While I think the first act of the game was the strongest, I absolutely cannot get over how much more there was to the game than what we were teased with in the demos. Seeing Leshy again near the end filled me with such mixed feelings. He was our first fear in the game, our first threat, we didn't know the full context of what we were playing at the time... So when we saw him standing there, right in front of us, nothing between us... But as an ally, it was still unsettling. One thing I haven't seen mentioned much in the comments so far is the sound design of this game. The card game itself gets a lot of praise, but I simply adored the sound of it. The clinking of damage counters filling the scale, the sound of sacrificing and attacking. Soft sounds, but in a game where everything is soft, they somehow sounded hard at heavy when they needed to. The old video game style segment reminded me greatly of the Pokemon TCG game on Game Boy Color, where you went to the various Labs to face off against the different type specialists, but they all had various trainers in them you could farm for card packs to fill out your deck. It was such an intense throwback for me. For Stoat's section, I see a lot of criticism calling him boring, a robot, etc. But honestly, he seemed the *most* human to me. The way he just said "Cool" and stuff whenever you helped him out. He was a dick, sure but he ackowledged the other characters, included them in his version of the game, and while if he played D&D he would be a "Rollplayer" instead of a "Roleplayer", that's still very much a human element. The entire segment with him struck me as playing a game with and old friend that was always a bit more into things than everyone else mathematically, and that translated into how he played the game and presented it to you. Even his big "wahaha bad guy" moment lacked impact because it wasn't really clear why uploading the game was such a bad thing. Would be nice to get some more lore on that. But yeah, I have to entirely disagree with the people saying his segment was the most lifeless. I think he was the most human character of them all, ironically.
From what I understand his goal, everyone would have benefited from technically since they do all want to keep playing But the problem is that the old_data is still in the game and making it publicly available sounds like a terrible idea depending what it really is
Man, seeing the ending boss battles really tears me up inside Grimicia, her final 'boss' battle that she thought she'd have time for never happened, she even is surprised that she runs out of time, but even so she still shakes your hand and thanks you for your efforts, getting through her little 'dungeon' to appear as the final boss of 'her' story. Leshy, even though he had time for 1 more game, he was sad because he knew the end was coming, but he still wanted to play 1 more game, and he wanted it to go as long as possible, and set up the atmosphere for it, even as the items began vanishing, from the candles, to the scales, he just wants to play as 'long' as possible, and when there's nothing more either of you can do... he thanks you and gives you a 'good game' handshake, as is tradition. when magnificus' final battle arrived, he wanted to go out in a bang, in a 'duel' reminiscent of what we all hope happens in the future, 2 worthy foes facing off in an 'epic' battle, he combines the fan favorites from various card game themes, into a 'beautiful' canvas that was his duel with you, the tragedy was... he never got to thank you, to shake your hand which i feel is the saddest thing in all of any cardgame, it's tradition where you shake your opponent's hand if the duel was 'good'. Leshy's was the saddest though, because it reminds me of how we all feel when there's no longer enough time to do what we want. we just want to play that game we love for just another hour more, enjoy that moment we loved for one second more. When your dueling your friend, and you know it's going to be the last duel between you for w.e reason, you try to make it last, you make up any excuse to make it go another turn, misplays, forget the counters, reset our cards, endless resources... anything, just to prolong the game... just a few more rounds.
This makes a reference to his past two games. The Devil card makes a reference to Pony Island and the fact that the old code's origin is Satan himself. It can be considered pretty old since that game takes place during the Crusades. The Hex is DEFINITELY required for understanding how these worlds work. There was a software suite called Gameworks whose logo was A BLUE ISOCOLESE TRIANGLE. The CEO/AI aide used in the Gameworks was Irving (always wore Blue). The old code gave the power to create beings and have them essentially get contracted out to serve as actors and actresses in a game. It made the games easier to make but had the side result of the characters having free will and desires of their own. This appears to be another world created by this group. I'll need to look to see if any of the Proper noun people involved with creating games in the Hex match up to any in this game.
If you look very carefully the girl who shoots luke turns into the evil video game character from hex for a frame. I found that that to be pretty interesting.
The biggest twist I could imagine is if The old data is actually the source code for the world that Luke is in. It’s the only explanation I can think of why there is the footage of Luke with the scales, unless it’s meant to just be a glitch.
Isn't Luke a real person though? "The world that Luke is in" is the real world. Like, in the past. We're just playing the recordings on his video camera right? This game is basically one big found footage. The gameplay section is just us watching a video of Luke's gameplay (we were just given control so the game wouldn't be boring, and the corrupted videos are probably the gameplay sections). We're just watching Luke finding the game, looking into it, going crazy trying to figure it out, deleted the game, then got killed by the woman.
@@NIHIL_EGO Maybe that's why he breaks down after seeing the "old date"/ saying "what the fuck man?!" after hearing more about the old data. He IS a character like leshy and others,
The ending is fucked up for me, mainly because of what happened to Luke. A simple man who enjoyed opening card packs and winds up in a mystery and sees things that scarred him and ends up getting murdered just because he had questions. I hope that data somehow goes public and shuts GameFuna down for good.
GameFuna is absolutely fucked they raided him while he was reporting malpractice what is the guarantor over and going to think oh must have been the CIA they might as well go into hiding and shut down the company because there is zero Ways the business could survive their company maybe if they Play their hands right it might be able to prevent getting shut down but no matter what their company is practically gone because even if they don’t have to shut it down we’re gonna have to shut it down steel because once the controversy gets out which it absolutely will they are 5,000,000% screwed and they miss handled the situation so hard they are gonna be shut down the owner of the company is probably going to be put to jail or killed or both and the same goes for the majority of his employees they could’ve very easily said I’m sorry sir but that product does not work as intended and it is harmful to both the computer and potentially the user if you have epilepsy the game could kill you we never got finished producing it because of the errors so we never had any time to put a warning in We can’t legally sell that and we are required to get it back because of these legal reasons
I haven't finished the video yet so idk if this comes up later, but Karnöffel is an European card game from 1426, the oldest identifiable card game we know of
While the last part of the game was really emotional and fantastic to see, I was also laughing my ass off at Manly not being able to play any yu-gi-oh cards due to awful luck with draws.
When I played that part, I kept an almost tie the whole match, so I thought it was manipulated to always give you something to play Then I watched this video XD
XD I thought it was made that way since they have huge hp number. I guess his luck on Act 1 getting that ultimate Manly card took away his luck on last part.
Holy crap, I think I got YOUR card on my run of Inscryption! It was a big help during that fight, especially since I was doing a run before I figured out how Oroboros worked.
> 'The Cabin Part is the Best Part in the game' THANK YOU. I've been feeling weird about saying it because, obviously, it's the first part of the game and it's supposed to be the set up to the rest of it, but the issue is that they put SO much work into it that it quickly just wormed its way into my heart. I think, for the future, they absolutely should release the cabin part as a separate game, where they can like- work on it to give it 500 different kinds of things. Maybe they could even connect it the other characters somehow? I dunno.
Personally I liked the deck building aspect of the 2d part as well. Coming up with clever ways to combo the cards of the different classes was a lot of fun. The deck building of part two with the atmosphere of the cabin would be the best.
Cheese this one is longer than the last episode and done in two episode like you promised! Everyone's freaking out about how strong your Manly card is it's practically a legend now!
The way each of the Scrybes were deleted was so heartbreaking in it's own way, other than the kinda funny P-03. But the worst of all was the real life dude who just... Really liked cards. He stumbled into this... And dug too deep :(
I just noticed. Magnificus says: We will both meet our makers soon. He knew Luke was gonna die. Also one of the emails or minutes at the very end showcase a Barry and a Mr.Kaminsky. We see a Kaminsky card in Act 1. Judging by the military documents this was never a game, most likely a military division doing this research with the isosceles triangle, posing as a game dev company. ALSO do feel free to check out Lucky Carder on youtube. I suspected it was an actual channel due to how much work was put in the ARG story. Time to binge!
I love how Manly does different voices for every character and never forgets whoms is who. I even caught myself in the middle of the video thinking wait, is there a voiceover in this game? there wasn't any at the beginning i think its just great work, immersing in the game
I'm a little sad that we didn't get to see the necromancer and the magic area. Only the robot and beast part of the game was fully played. I hope they develop the game more to actually include all four types of cards.
Its sad but even if we don't get a DLC or update including those two's areas the game still feels complete and I would be happy at what the developers have done
@@AquaticLotus7552 they wll prob make it so whoever you overthrow in act 2 will be the act three area, like you choose the wizard and it is the wizards cabin/stage/map to end the game and the other three take him out.
@@laharlkent The game feels like a demo. And this is supposed to be a full game. The full game feels like a ripoff compared to what the Demo promised. @@g80gzt This isn't "half of the content promised" in any way. Unless you're hyper analyzing the trailers absolutely none of anything in this episode is shown at all in those- The reason behind there only being two Scrybe world's is entirely story based, and that's pretty clear just looking at the gameplay types in the final section. Spending ~2-3 hours with each of those types would be an absolute drag and bring the game down entirely. There was a story to tell through the gameplay and they told it, presumably exactly how they envisioned it.
When i got to the second phase of P03’s fight, i had a 100attack 100health Ouroboros on the board. All four lanes on P03’s side were filled with copies of it. Surprisingly it actually allowed me to win easily, but still, that was TERRIFYING-
@@IGeorge94 I had a set up with the Ouroboros, some Skeletons, and the Tomb Robber cards, and i would just take a single, VERY long turn, summoning Skeletons with the Robber’s ability, sacrificing them for the Ouroboros, and then using the hammer to kill it immediately. It returns to my hand, and i have the bones back to re-summon the Skeletons. Repeat that ad-nauseam and you’ll have an overpowered card. It’s not the only set up either, but probably the easiest to get. Another one i also used was to get enough bones for the Pharoh’s Pets card, and then you only need to have that played once and you can endlessly sacrifice it to power up Ouroboros. As for if Ouroboros stays upgraded into Act 3, i have no idea. I’ve only JUST started Act 3, so this might only be worth doing an excessive amount just for the sake of getting achievements
@@atomsorcerer8356 you probably know by now but it does stay upgraded The easiest method i found to upgrade it was in act one, and all you need is to get an undying goat and the ouroboros in the same time. just keep sacrifing them for each other, that's all there is to it and it doesn't end until you decide to stop.
Leshy really was one of the most fun parts of the game. I'd love a Leshy-style roguelike DLC with an expanded roster to include the other scrybe's cards, that would be perfect. He made it really fun and atmospheric, and hell, the death cards weren't even an actual death thing. Luke made multiple death cards, he was fine throughout the Leshy section. It was just a game mechanic, and a fun one at that.

I literally cried omg😭😭
@@starlogged Right?! OMG, it was like seeing him in a new light and then he had to go! 😭😭
An absolutely fascinating character when you consider their awareness of the situation, I loved leshy by the end so much
@@PrefectlySatire Very well said - the way that he does his best to put on an entertaining performance and tell a story for the player gives the vibe that he’s simply trying to make the most out of a tough situation where the world is constantly threatened by OLD_DATA.
I'm 98% sure everyone agrees with this.
100% Leshy best girl

One of my favorite things about Manly, and one of my biggest selling points when recommending him to other people, is how quickly he figures out game mechanics. That in itself is almost as entertaining as his gameplay.

Leshy’s final moments were nice just two pals having a final match no winners or losers good game man
it really does show how much he loved playing cards, not even caring for keeping score anymore.
it enunciates just how dire the situation is. keeping score in the game, while not really necessary for gameplay, creates much-needed structure and rules that make the game meaningful.
when those arbitrary boundaries disappear, you lose something that's been consistent and grounding your whole game and Leshy _allows_ it. he's obligated to uphold the rules as the GM but hes on deaths doorstep and emotionally vulnerable and its just _devastating_
You can tell he's the real villain by how terrible a DM he is. Bring back Leshy, I want the masks and voices.

Kinda like a stern father telling you he's proud in his final moments.

Exactly, I think the middle part of the game could've made for a better transition and understand if it incorporated the style of the 4 scrybes better together and with more atmosphere
Leshy's part is incridible but it's definitely not that replayable, like it's stupid but PO3 just adding a lane added that much more complexity to the game
Then it's all the more fitting that Leshy's esthetic is all about nature like having animals for cards and looking like a mountain man while P03 esthetic is all about machines like having robots for cards and looking like a computer.
so all we need now is an expac where the fungus guy merge the two in one
@@jamescastroalves16 GREAT IDEA!!!
Wait...
No, no, nonononono *NO*
With that in mind, it's also worth considering Magnificus - his 3D section is unique in the way the battle is presented.
Leshy is all about flavour, his camera captures images that would become the cards
Magnificus is all about art, his brush paints the art of the cards
Grimicia is all about lore, with her quil she inscribes the history and sigils on the cards
and P-03 is about the mechanics, he designs just the numbers of the cards
he is meant to be stagnant and robotic because he doesnt care about lore, art or flavour.
whenever he explains mechanics its hugely different from Leshy, where as Leshy describes the act of empowering your cards as "you warm your beasts by the fire" and "you come across a strange obelisk in the woods" P-03 literally just says "pick a boost, it will power you card, or whatever, you will see".
Yes, we know, but it being the point doesn't make him more interesting or fun
@@melonbread888 What a person finds enjoyable is subjective. Pretty sure there will be people that will actually like Po3’s part of the game.

Warlocks in a nutshell
Magnificus dragging himself to try and shake Luke’s hand physically hurt me. And it’s worse when you realize he’ll never get the chance to ever again. They’re both permanently gone :(
Leshy’s music makes his end section feel especially sad. Its like saying goodbye to an old friend.

"One last game, before we go?"
Old friends don't murder you and take pictures when you lose at cards.
I’d really love to play everyone’s version of the game; Grim and Mag would probably have had some awesome things for us.
Magnificus is kind-of a douche... it just so happened P03 was a bigger one
In Act 1, the stunted wolf seems like a pretty smart alright dude. And then Act 2 and 3 reveal him as a horrible person. Personally, Grimora is best character, followed by Leshy.
Grimora is a she.
it's not that P03 lsot his persnality, it's just he acted SLIGHTLY more amicably (though still an ass) because he wanted out and needed help.
I got so hype when the pirate theme kicked on when I got to it, and then nothing :(
I think there is a mod for grimora but I'm not sure about magnificus. I could be wrong though.

@@InnocentC0 When I played that last part I literally only got perfect draws. I guess Manly just hade MAJOR rng fuckery going on
For the duel disk alone, it would be worth it
Honestly, Leshy and maybe even the others (except P03, he’s just a dick), are all kinda tragic.
You get a fancy card for this run that you made yourself!”
The main thing holding all 4 of these people back, is only what I can assume.
@@logans.7932 really it felt like game devs who cant quite agree on things but each have their own faults and skills.
You got it right!
You forgot to mention control deck players, who are all about maximized misery on both sides.
@@lokomotiv5492

I love Vorthos decks
Pick a keyword, tribe, or whatever and find everything that fits.

What if the OLD_DATA is not supernatural AT ALL and is just evidence of very violent and inhumane illegal activities by the company?
So they deleted/hidden it but while they were developing a 100% normal virtual card game, somehow the evidence resurfaced through the code (maybe that's the only supernatural element, the same that gave life to the game characters?) then the company buried it so no-one could charge them, then killed Luke to prevent him from taking legal action that would destroy the brand.
Better than what it prolly really is based on what I know of the ARG.
Would agree with this if not for Luke destroying the disc-
...but what if the reason he destroyed it is that the same supernatural force that animates the characters animated the cruel deeds recorded in the disc... jeez that would be something.
maybe kaycee was killed because company knew that she is the one who put this evidence in the code, and inside the game was AI that was programmed to avoid this data - and this data was contained in some of the AI files so they can't just simple delete or rewrite it or didn't have time for it before deadline? and then harsh decision was made about just busting it in the fucking woods but kaycee (she was killed after company has had something on her, they thought about somebody from the company and found out about kaycee later) wrote coordinates and reseal card pack
so it is actually not supernatural and the devil accident with turned off camera is just luke is so into the game that he just do what he's said to do so the most strange part is just the errors of camera and luke's insane laughter with the scales (simply driven mad by the stress)
but hey it is old camera i suppose he's not very successful as a youtuber i suppose so he hasn't much money to spend on camera and stuff or maybe didn't bother... i wouldn't bother in his place like "fuck it hey i have a camera and i don't care until it explodes"

@@leotamer5 yea thats a nice way of seeing it, first time DM vs expert DM with all the gear to make it super atmospheric
As a terminal dialogue skipper, P03 was better than leshy to me tbh, i got tired of leshy's descriptions after like 2 runs so the "missing atmosphere" i never really cared
Plus, doesn't P03's section have its own atmosphere anyways?
@@4thstateofmatter662 Your mindset being similar to P03's shows why you resonate with their segment a bit more. Again, the 4 Scrybes are 4 archetypes of different kinds of gamers, and highlights the aspects of the game that they enjoy the most. Your opinion here also shows why P03 seemed to hate Leshy the most out of the other Scrybes, getting tired of what they consider an endless source of "unnecessary fluff and dialogue" when they just want everyone to get on with the "real game" already.
I do think P03's section is pretty funny as well. Aside from all the sinister stuff he's doing and how sadistic he can sometimes be to the player/Luke Carder, I do appreciate how overtly uncreative he is with the story-telling, down to the point that he basically just uses the Scribe's islands and the Scribes themselves as blatant influences, while Leshy seems to "create" the characters and setting for an immersive experience (at least that's sorta my theory on how the Prospector, Angler, Trapper/Trader and Woodcarver etc came into being, through Leshy's own mind)
It also sorta seems like a typical 'generational gap' between the two DMs. Leshy is the old-school DM while P03 is basically the zoomer DM, to put it bluntly XD
One has all the old-school props and is all about story-telling and atmosphere, while one is all about using technology and is all about strats and gameplay.
I think what makes the transition a bit of a downer is that Leshy's style was much more immersive. When dealing with P03, it's a natural inclination to miss that, since P03 clearly cares more about mechanics than theme and style.
@@4thstateofmatter662Get out of the fake account, P03! You ain't fooling anyone!!
So the way I see it;
Leshy: The "Forever DM" who ran highly detailed and interesting games, but was a killer DM who kept roping his friends in and kept forcing them to play.
Stoat/P03: The "That Guy" of the table, who always thought he could do better than Leshy. Yet when he finally gets the chance, he sucks at it. His story is shallow, his enemies are predictable, and his NPCs are just cheap imitations of Leshy's.
Leshy is what happens when the forever dm is kept as the dm so long he goes insane
Leshy: flavor guy. Leshy hates it when you use stink on the moon, but I bet PO3 would love it
@Sowneyy 7.62 To be honest, he didn't really complain, but accepted it. And he even accepts you to end the game when you finally kill the moon.

@@ShinMajin lmfao
"All that matters in a cardgame is perfect play."
So I'm guessing Leshy does Lore, Magnificus, does the Art, And PO3 is probably the developer, balancing and playtesting cards(They all create cards obviously). Might be why someone plays a card game but as you say cold and lifeless without those other aspects.
I haven't figured out what role Grimica plays in the design of the game.
Stoat is a bit of a dick yes.
I wonder if thats intentional, considering P-03’s whole theme of lifeless machinery. Still kinda bummed out on the plot twist I really liked Leshy’s style and his artsiness.
He’s *that* type of gamer

I remember in some games he's played has gas masked characters, he usually covers his own mouth to emulate talking under a mask(Or using his scarf)
Nice touches
This was my first video I saw of his.
His voices were really weak. I did them much better when I played it myself.

I mean there are multiple endings
@@egg7491 I would be pleased to see that, is out there anyone playing to reach them that you know?
It would make sense if it was a "play once don't touch again" type of game because that was exactly what Pony Island was and they were made by the same creators. I think Daniel Mullins likes a sense of ephemerality in his games, meant as a hard-hitting experience meant only to be experienced once.
@@egg7491 Are there ?
His plan needing to be stopped must have something to do with the old-data.
From what I understand his goal, everyone would have benefited from technically since they do all want to keep playing
But the problem is that the old_data is still in the game and making it publicly available sounds like a terrible idea depending what it really is
@@phenix4181 Judging from Luke's reaction it can't be anything good. From what I've seen it seems to be something Satanic/Lovecraftian.
Man, seeing the ending boss battles really tears me up inside
Grimicia, her final 'boss' battle that she thought she'd have time for never happened, she even is surprised that she runs out of time, but even so she still shakes your hand and thanks you for your efforts, getting through her little 'dungeon' to appear as the final boss of 'her' story.
@@straypaper Yes and no. Luke is in the real world... in the context of _our_ Inscryption. To us, he's as fictional as Leshy and co.

How did you do that?
@@atomsorcerer8356 you probably know by now but it does stay upgraded
The easiest method i found to upgrade it was in act one, and all you need is to get an undying goat and the ouroboros in the same time. just keep sacrifing them for each other, that's all there is to it and it doesn't end until you decide to stop.
