Try to explain with my poor english. The sole of the ski is a porous material. When you apply the wax with the heat of the iron, the wax penetrate inside the sole. The heat helps the wax to penetrate. After cooling, the scratching is to remove excess of wax. But you understand now that the wax stays in the small holes of the sole. So when you ski, the wax will come out from the porous sole providing good glide. The more often you wax the better your ski will stay on long term. Hope it helps...
Unless I was in competition I would only scrape once and the remaining wax will last longer. Skiing will gradually polish and remove this wax over time anyhow.
i see some places recommending a wire brush to clean the base..but here you're using a soft bristle brush. do you not use or recommend a wire brush to clean the base? do you sometimes wipe w/ rubbing alcohol first if there's dust on it?
You can clean your ski with a damp rag.. I would not use any chemical I would say no wire brush... Only a Nylon brush ... I use a stiff Toothbrush to polish the wax at the end: not ideal but does the job
Wait why do we put the wax on and then scrape it all off? I'm new to this, so serious question.

@@weberformula Your use of English was great :)

Do you have any tips or techniques to prevent someone from burning the base of the ski when applying the coldest wax?
Good to know 👍

So no chemical products before wax? Alcol neither?
