Seriously. People now give all the acclaim to space games like EVE or Elite:Dangerous, but it's really nothing that Escape Velocity hasn't done before. I would love if this series made a comeback, but since Ambrosia is dead, it's probably impossible.
@@catisreckless4647 the closest thing right now is probably Endless Sky. There's NAEV as well, but I think endless sky is better, more polished, and still being updated with new content. There's also a passion project to restore EV classic and EV override for modern pc's, it's called Cosmic Frontier. they reached their kickstarter goal awhile ago, and the latest dev update on it was from just last month. Should be done soon.
@@ryukaganzeroful I played Naev waaay back in the day. Never heard of Endless Sky however. I checked the page, it seems to be pretty much exactly like the Escape Velocity trilogy, just with more qol stuff and extras. I'll check it out, thanks.
there is gameplay for the original, check it out. i also have the original installed on my cpu and it still holds up quite well compared to other games played today.
Find an independent area with no confederate ships, wait for an independent ship to initiate the warp sequence, attack the ship to disable it before it can warp, then board and take all its stuff. Repeat until you get money for a good ship. Then use the bug where you hire some bulk freighters to increase cargo capacity, and use enhancement on the extra cargo capacity to give yourself better weapon capabilities. Get rid of the freighter and now you’re a powerhouse. Find a confederate or rebel ship that you can now take on, attack until disabled, and try to take over the new ship as yours
I JUST LOVE how everyone commenting on here is at least 20 and is full of nostalgia. haha people i know cant relate to me with this game haha no one knows its awesomeness the hours killing pirates, running from captain hector constantly and the countless trading missions. i love this so much haha you guys think you played it a lot.. i had a kestrel with 380 million credits with a couple planets...
You can install "Sheepshaver" on your modern Mac and run OS9, which should allow you to play EV: Original. In fact, I have been playing the original game, and a series of EXCELLENT plug-ins called the "Empire Trilogy". I'm on the third of them. There are actually six plugs in the "trilogy". Empire: War Without End Empire 2: Dark Horizons Empire 3: Endgame Empire of Crime Empire: Heart of Darkness Empire of Crime 2: Brotherhood of the Kestrel Get Sheepshaver. Get Ev. Google "Empire Trilogy EV".
Man. There would be a part of me that would squee at ships from EV Classic making it into a flight sim. I actually have two models whose geometry are suitable to modify into the Rapier and Manta already, now that I think about it...
I'm building all the ships from this in Space Engineers. My hope is that game will continue to progress enough that with the help of modding I will be able to create 1st-person EV.
No. Absolutely not. Everything is wrong. WRONG! The flight and flow of your surroundings feels slow. The weapon damage and ship protection are disproportionate, too. The classic plug-in is really only good if you want the gist of things and to see the story. The actual feel itself is way off.
This score is brilliant! It just makes you feel like something huge and awesome is coming your way
One of the great games of all time, seriously

The memories!
@thouarttim
been there done that yo
just a question, but is the classic plugin for NOVA really the same feeling as playing EV classic?
@SuperGoldfish1999 It kinda is, try Star Sonata 2.
