    God I love those things. And you got off very lightly! A bouncing tail only :-)

    Displaced threshold can be used for takeoff not landing

    Hey! That's Cameron Park...not much of a ground loop at the high speed turn off, thank goodness. That RV-3's a great little high performance machine, one of my favorites. I'll meet you in Auburn for lunch in the Luscombe. Juan- Nevada City, CA

      Are you still alive mate ? Lovely little plane, looks like so much fun. However seems like a bit too much showboating going on at reasonably low alt. Correct me if I'm wrong

    Looked like a hell of a lot of fun to me ! No sense in having an airplane if you can piss someone off every once in awhile !

    I landed our Champ at Cameron Park last year. Tricky runway because it sags in the middle and both ends are going into hills haha...to say the least, it was a scary landing and takeoff. But im sure i'd just get used to it after some time....but no room for errors or engine out...you'll be in someone's backyard

    Turning off the active at way too fast a taxi was where the GL started. Luckily he got it before a loop happened. Also the last comment is correct. He just wanted to be cool and get the first off ramp, not cool !

      Bill Wilkins Someone was calling for emergency landing behind him, he was trying to get out of the way.

    Not supposed to use that part of the runway !

  • @EamonnSeoigh
    @EamonnSeoigh 5 лет назад +2

    Wow. How many regs busted? Why shoot for the first taxiway with all that runway available? Aside from all that, your plane appears to fly really nice. What have you been able to squeeze out of her for range in economy cruise?

    • @MotherlodeMotors
      @MotherlodeMotors  5 лет назад +1

      Ted Shredz, there was someone calling for emergency landing and he was trying to get out of the way.
      I am not the owner or pilot but original RV-3 has 19 gallon tank, Carrot has a 32 gallon custom tank. Fuel consumption depends on the engine/ prop combo. Average would be 6-7 gallons per hour. Speed would average 150-185 per hour. Again depends on the engine/ prop. Top speed just over 200, but that would be 12g/hr.

    Pilot never quite had control during the entire flight. Back to basics. Have fun with the basics before you hurt yourself or someone else. This vid could be used for enforcement action.

    I guess I'm a bit "old school," but I thought I'd detected a bit of "hot dogging" during that flight (?)
    And, landing BEFORE the runway (so you could turn off at the beginning of the runway) was not cool at all. Just reinforced your hot dog tendencies. Didn't enjoy the video at all. But, in over 30 years of flying "little planes," I like to see folks follow the rules and have a good time.

    • @MotherlodeMotors
      @MotherlodeMotors  9 лет назад

      He landed early because someone was calling for emergency landing behind him, he was trying to get off the runway quickly.

      OK, but how about a "go around," and getting completely out of the way? Just a thought.

      Har, har, now "dats" funny! I was a member of the McGuire AFB, NJ Aero Club. (now defunct), as a USAF Retiree (Avionics). We had to get a "Satellite Weather Briefing," from Base Ops. even if you were only going 50 miles! Great comment! :) N-6395T

      Those "Quips" are really cool! Love them!
      At the McGuire Aero Club, if you didn't have at least 500 hrs NO-ONE would speak to you (we were "low lifes!" ha.
      I believe I made calls to McClellan a few times, on HF, (I was a civilian WG-12 then - had already retired). That would be during our radio checks on the C141B's, heading for Rhein Mein AB. Need to call WAY OUT for weather.
      Seems I called on either 3.019 or 5.710, or 8.993Mhz. I still remember those freqs. As you would know, it would depend on the time of day as to how far you could "skip" your RF off that "Conductive D Layer." Only used "Upper Side Band" for the HF. Back when, we had 130Watt HF's - later, went to a 400 watt units.
      Have to tell you that I, sometimes, would call out on 26.185mhz - that's Channel 19 CB radio! They said I "pegged their meters." ha. That was bad - like Larry the Cable Guy says: "I apologize Lord.." ha. Later. N-6395T

      I worked both the A's and the B models (extended fuselage and In-Flight refueling.)
      2775 and 2776 were the #1 and #2 C-141s produced - they were kept as A Models and used as "test beds."
      They would come in to McGuire, periodically - they seemed so "small" compared to the extended B models. Plus, their Avionics was really "old school." The "underdeck Avionics" area was really "bare," compared to the B's.
      Great airplane - I worked it for about 13 years, or so. Two of our planes went "down" on the same day, about 4 hrs apart. That was in 1976. I worked with the inspectors on all of the instruments that were brought back to McGuire.
      Read the Flight DataRecorder tape (Inconel metal foil) on the one that crashed in Greenland. Was called in on a Sunday, I recall. Was shop superintendent then.
      That was a dark day for McGuire. Good talkin' to you.
