      But you don't want to buy an engine just to play it at the occasional concert. You want something reliable that you can depend upon with your life. When it's a limited edition model, then how do you know there aren't some hidden flaws in it? Usually, you'd want something that's widely used, so that there's plenty of data available on its performance, including limitations and bugs.

    Man, that thing is BEAUTIFUL!!! I remember looking at factory motocrossers when I was a teenager and drooling. They were so far out of reach for the average guy I knew. That would probably be the biggest negative on this engine - cost. I'm sure you're gonna pay for all the pretty and strengthened parts. Well worth it for your style of flying I'd say. The case and con-rod at least will handle several rebuilds, probably much more. Could be the last engine you'll ever need!

    I’m looking forward to another video where you compare props on the Factory-R. Topics to test should include:
    Apparent thrust
    Throttle response
    Climb rate
    Fuel economy (Another Icarus race some day???)
    Noise level
    Vibration
    Pull start comfort
    Top ground speed

    2030: putting a V10 on my paramotor

    • @mbrunnme
      @mbrunnme 3 года назад +5

      By 2030 a V10 will make as much sense on a paramotor as it will in a car. It won't be for the performance, it'll be for the story.

    • @guieggert4592
      @guieggert4592 3 года назад +2

    • @Skinflaps_Meatslapper
      @Skinflaps_Meatslapper 3 года назад +1

      @@guieggert4592 I'm truly surprised that there aren't tons of electric paramotors out there already. The insane amount of power possible with them in such a small package would fit the requirements perfectly. Imagine having several times the thrust available instantly, while being able to slow cruise and conserve battery or just outright shut the motor off just as easily when it's not needed. Drop in to a tesla charging station for a quick top off or plug in just about anywhere with a short extension cord. It won't have the same range as a paramotor engine, but an hour or two worth of flight would be doable with current tech.

    Tucker, can you one day do a side-by-side comparison of the top engines, just like you did a comparison of different propellers? The engine is the heart of the overall machine, and it's the most difficult piece to improve, so I really want to see a direct comparison of the pro's & cons of each.

  • @SkypowerwithKarl
    @SkypowerwithKarl 3 года назад +9

    Tucker, that prop washer looks distorted in the light where the titanium screws heads contact it. It might be a good idea to use some washers on them to help distribute the force. I’m assuming you used blue Loctite and torqued them. By the way never ever get the Loctite on plastic, polyester, polymers, epoxies, fiberglass or carbon fiber. It causes embrittlement! For metal to metal only. Put it on the fastener’s threads and carefully pass it through any non metal assembly. There are also some pipe sealants that also react with plastic so be careful.

    Prop length is only one of two thrust determinants of props. The other is pitch as specified by the linear distance traveled in a complete revolution.

    I want to do this it looks like pure flight. Just a reminder. At minimum clear of clouds at all times. Must be able to glide to landing and maintain clear of clouds if loss of power. Maintaining VFR is vital for safety for all pilots not on an interment flight plan. Every one wants to dance with the clouds butt there are pilots that are IMC busting through them at great speed and would have a hard time seeing and avoiding one dancing to close above, in or below the clouds. Happy flying. Be safe! CFII

    I also think the factor R is worth considering as a cross country engine. More thrust from a 140 & better fuel economy through EFI can only mean lower overall fuel burn. I weigh 63kg (naked) and would take a shot that it would achieve atom L/ph figures maybe 4 stroke figures.

    Questions:
    Obviously, price difference?
    Prop clearance-What is the safety margin of the 140 prop under power? Does prop flex change over time? How catastrophic would prop-hoop contact be? Is prop flex similar between e-props and Helix? Is a larger Scout hoop an option now or in future?

    Tucker, I noticed when you were doing the throttle blips, the Scout-Mobile's cage torqued (due to propeller inertia at that point, I know). BUT, with the higher thrust of the 140cm prop, 1) are the anti-torque vanes on the cage set to counteract the torque of the larger prop, 2) if not, are they adjustable, and should they be adjusted for the larger prop?

    Considering pitch is different when comparing 130 & 140cm props. How about a bench test, to see which one gives what amount of thrust? Without knowing the pitch numbers of both of the props - I trust my gut and bet they give out +- the same amount of thrust. Would be interesting to see. Propellers on paramotors is a big thing and I'm sure it would be very interesting for many pilots.

    • @troyjollimore4100
      @troyjollimore4100 3 года назад

      Watch some of his previous videos. Especially the ones where he induces collapses, like the Mojo flight. You're working your way backwards, like saying adding two wheels and a cage would make a much safer motorcycle. But then it wouldn't be a motorcycle. ;) You can get powered deltawings, but they're classified as ultralight aircraft. As for 'inconvenience', that's up to the pilot, altitude, and whether you're packing a reserve parachute or not!

    Damn, that is a gorgeous motor. 93kg of thrust is pretty silly. At least to an Atom 80 pilot like myself.

    Are there any turbocharged engines for paramotoring? Seems like a slight weight increase would be outweighed by the performance aspect that a turbo presents.

      parajet made a supercharged 294cc rotary way back to fly over everest but otherwise the extra weight is unnecessary, the poliny 250cc watercooled is often far more powerful than the average weight guy needs

      I would suggest finding a reputable shop in your area that sells used gear. You could also buy from an individual but being new to the sport I think it would be difficult to know if what you are buying is suitable for a beginner and in good condition.
      Maybe find an instructor and take some lessons, the instructor likely knows many others in the area and might be able to point you in the right direction to find some good used gear and besides you need the lessons anyway.

    I’d recommend red thread lock on the titanium bolts.

    • @SkypowerwithKarl
      @SkypowerwithKarl 3 года назад

      Blue is plenty strong, but using red even titanium screws may snap if he needs to change the prop. Red is considered permanent and it’s bond can be weakened by heating to 400 degrees but that can hurt things.

      I recommend throwing those bolts in the trash and reinstalling the original SS.

      98% of stainless fasteners are crap. Most are 18-8 or 316 alloy, you know the stuff that twists off way before a grade 5. When ever I use stainless fasteners I order them in 17-4 PH alloy ($$$$) I don’t allow any other stainless on the premises. The titanium screws may be fine, but if they are 6Al-4V alloy, I’d feel better with common socket head cap screws.

    You could strap on a pair of ducted fan turbines for takeoff and climb out to boost it but fuel burn would be prohibitive for longer than that

    I think you are a big enough RUclipsr to convince a company like Akrapovic for example to build you a titanium exhaust that would look amazing once it turns blue and purple

    Could tightening the throttle cable up help with the lack of acceleration & also would explain the engine seemingly not working as hard 🤔

    • @TuckerGott
      @TuckerGott  3 года назад +1

      Nope, the throttle cable is set up the same as before and wouldn't affect those things if it was different.

  • @danknug922

    Is a full carbon fiber 140 prop out of the picture? Or is that a possibility. I'm not sure u can get lighter than that, can u.

  • @RexMuffin

    Is it possible to change the pulley where the prop is attached to a smaller one to make the prop turn faster? Or will the engine lack the power to do so and just run at lower rpm?

    Beautiful motor. I wonder how that chrome exhaust will hold up. Will it tarnish or turn yellow....?

    • @TuckerGott

      It's starting to turn bronze and purple on the elbow! I got a little salt water spray on it and it wiped off. Really hoping it doesn't corrode like the normal exhausts!
