    Was an Indy fanboy for YEARS until I tried thunders on a board that had lost its pop and they basically revitalized the deck for another 2 weeks. They don't have the same heft as indys, but I find them more reliable for a boards longevity (i.e. no ghost pop). I still have like 5 sets of indys but these thunders have been going strong for a year now and I haven't felt like returning anytime soon.

    I settled on Indy 139 standards. Tried aces, too twitchy, tried thunders, a tad low for me. There's something about the Indy turn being a tad delayed then getting sharp when you dig in that I really like. Also the 55mm works with the decks I like to ride.

    I'm on indy 144 hollows right now, they're great! But I do tricks easier on krux trucks especially manuals and grinds, but I had to swap out the pivot cups so they could turn better and I had to remove like 3mm from the kingpin so I could tighten it more coz it hits the board when I tighten it. INDY and KRUX!

    Ive started with 144 hollows, and it was the best for a long time.
    Then my gear madness pushed me to try thunder hollow 147, never liked, you have to choose no turn or wheelbite. I even bent them learning flatground ollie (im 150lbs).
    After ive tried 149 hollow and ace 44. Both are cool, ace are heavy (i dont like this) but turn was amazing initially. Bushings stiffened after initial brake in, and they became another indy. I hope they will be soft again.
    Indy 149 are great, its like more stable 144. Ive even tried 149 titanium, but felt no difference with hollow (but checked 20g weight diff on scales).

    • @apexscape
      @apexscape 4 года назад

      kinda doesn't matter at beginner level.. you can honestly skate anything but if it gives you confidence, by all means. save your $
      keep a consistent setup if you like but focus more on technique & form: jumping on top of board, lifting back feet up after you snap, & a good ollie....and getting hurt.

    • @johncoleman7308
      @johncoleman7308 2 года назад

      At your current level of skating, differences in gear don’t matter much. But I will say, it’s unlikely that an axle would bend from a flat ground ollie. I weigh more than you and regularly skate gaps (with thunders) around 5 ft high or taller with no issues. In fact I’ve never bent an axle from any brand come to think of it. If this was caused by a manufacturer defect, DLX customer service and warranty is excellent. They stand firmly behind their product.

    I tried so many times to ride thunders. I have owned Indy 149 hollows as well in addition to bullet trucks. All I can say is I ALWAYS go back to Indy 144 standards. I like how they are roomy for stability when grinding and hillbombing and skating ramps...but they don't really get any significant wheel bite (at least for me) because you can have them fairly tight and they still turn well because indys have a nice gentle carve to them. They manual nicely for me. My manuals are definitely better with Indys than thunders. At the same time, although I can do some tricks better on thunders, I don't do ALL of my tricks better on thunders and when I start skating thunders I run into wheel bite problems. So Indys are more consistent overall which to me is the most important.

    I love Ace and Indys. It depends on the deck and wheelbase for me. I know some will say well the Aces are technically indy because they are stage IIIs but the name on those trucks is ACE not Independent Truck Co. Both have been the absolute best trucks that I've skated hands down. I will change decks and wheels before I change out trucks when trying different setups (Not because I'm cheap) because I just love the way they feel, the position of the hanger, the way they grind and carve. They are literally perfect for what I like to feel when I skate. I have 3 setups. I don't necessarily ride just one. Sometimes I skate something for a month, wake up one day and just want to go to something new. I have a small setup of 8.0(Couldn't find 7.75 at the time, which is what I really wanted), it didn't feel good with ACE 33s so I went to Indy 139s. My "vert" or my 80s throwback setups are both ACE because they turned and carved better with the larger wheelbase and position of the axles.

    I had the same feelings about my Stage 8 146s. I kept trying to ride other trucks but I gravitated back to them every time. They are currently completely trashed and to this day I still find myself back. They have GK kingpins on them so they had way more grind life than your average stock Indy but alas they have no grind clearance left and the rounded kingpin head is the only thing keeping them skateable at all. The day they crack or snap I might have to hold a funeral with a well scripted eulogy to honor the greatest pair of trucks I've ever owned. That being said I like the way big wide Ventures skate the most but the places they lack are the places that Indys shine the most. Kinda like Ben and Thunder to Independent.

    I’ve been playing around with deck/truck size. First bought Indy 169 to put on the old school deck I pulled out of the closet. Then realized the deck was valuable so I went to 144 standard on 8.25 deck. Felt a bit small so I got a 9” deck for the 169. Felt a bit big. Now have 149 titanium on 8.5 deck and I love it. I like the forged baseplate too because I use 1/8” squishy old man risers.
