  • @theharvardyard2356
    @theharvardyard2356 2 года назад +23

    the fact that they get shredded up and sharp and don't last long is a tradeoff on the fact that they grind so smooth. it's just softer metal but it makes grinds so much easier on chunky ledges and shit. very worth it for me

    • @soydave1988
      @soydave1988 2 года назад +4

      @@laynurz I'm not sure I agree. My friend has these new Aces and they're definitely softer metal compared to a Venture, Indy, etc. and his Aces grind sooo smooth and buttery compared to any other truck he's ever used/I've ever seen. One day we were skating this chunky ledge and I had my thunders (with grooves) and they weren't even coming close to grinding as good as his Aces were. The Aces were just plowing straight through it like nothing

    • @TJV650
      @TJV650 2 года назад +2

      @@laynurz I wouldn’t say softer they are most definitely smoother. I have been skating them for about 3 months and precious to that went between Indy’s and thunders for about 16 yrs. It was in instant difference. I haven’t had the “flaking” issue he’s referring too and live in nyc so I’m literally skating every type of material haha

    • @sceplecture2382
      @sceplecture2382 2 года назад +1

      @@laynurz harder metals would stop as soon as they hit something. Softer metals would strip as they are being grinded, so i would assume its better for really nasty ledges and shit.

    The shaving happens sometimes when your angle iron is too sharp. I have a small box that shreds my box bad but a bigger box with different angle iron that is fine. Only when I skate the little one, but that angle iron has a very sharp and defined edge. I think that's cause the material is softer but also makes for the best grind imo.
    Ace are heavier but they do not feel like it at all. Never once had a thought about the weight of them, but you hear it a lot with indys.
    The classics are much cheaper at $40 ish and still really good trucks if the af1 is too steep
    Unfortunately they do seem to start to go earlier than most trucks, but like the Hater, to me its totally worth it. I think the deep turn is hard on the bushings/pivot cups. But once I got Ace, my confidence in skating has gone through the roof and I don't think that's a coincidence. I don't feel like they make tricks harder at all and to me have such a fun and comfortable pinch.

    • @Mardinovic
      @Mardinovic 2 года назад +1

      i recently bought a funbox so i can skate at home and the angle iron does made my trucks chip off and flakes are everywhere the first few days of skating the box. yeah i agree this happens because of how sharp the angle iron is. also i ride Thunders.

I like the turns and I feel like they have a tighter pop than with other trucks even if the landing is loose. I definitely ride mine tighter now coming back to skating tho. I agree about the lifespan but I mostly skate parks with soft steel, harder steel coping will eat these up. Great vid!

    In my experience Aces are great for transition, Thunders are great for street and Indys are very good at both. So I usually ride Indy hollows most days at the park since I skate both the bowl and street during sessions. Though I do have a dedicated bowl board that has these Aces on them on a 10 inch board(at it's widest, it's an old school board with just a tail) that I love and use when I meet my friends there that only rise bowls.

    I found putting in the hard bushings made a difference with the squirrely response you were talking about. Hard bushing battle that, but you still get the turn. Yeah, you got to push a little harder, but then at least it's deliberate and not just landing a little off. I only skate street and I've been on every truck you can think of since 1990. . . I love Ace trucks. . but I own Thunder, Indy, Venture, and even some other weird ones LOL. Every truck has it's place depending on setup and purpose.

    Nailed it in the first 2 minutes. I was an ace pilot for quite a while. One night I had a dream about riding Thunders again and I’ve never looked back. They actually turn faster than ace if you ride them loose enough. Of course you have to deal with wheel bite but there are many ways around that. They go straight too, imagine that. You don’t have to land in a carve after the trick. Aces have pretty shitty QC as well- the only trucks I’ve broken in 5 years and I’ve taken many thunders to the axle. I know the hype is big about Ace, but I feel like I’m 5 years ahead riding Thunders.

I found out of the box they were way too loose for me, I'm a heavy dude so every time I'd set up for kickflip the board would turn. makes sense, a great, responsive turn cannot at the same time be super stable.
    there is always a trade off, and I really enjoy that about trucks.
    thank you for pointing that out and differentiate, I was thinking about buying these trucks on sale, but I will reconsider now, since I like the trucks on my park board more like Nyjah does :P more stability to balance out my lack of ... balance.
    Also Aces have a short wheelbase, shorter than indys even so combining them with a deck with a long wheelbase seems mandatory for a tall guy like me.

    You dont need to see your wheels though. Erick Winkowski puts Independent 159's on his 9'5 decks, and i've read somewhere if your truck size is like an inch or so smaller than your deck size it helps the (bigger) deck flip easier since the size and weight distribution forces the rotation 'inwards'. Andrew Reynolds does this too on his decks!

    Great review. The af1’s are definitely alot stronger then any other truck. That has been proven I’ve had the exact same pair as you only difference in black. And with bones hard bushings because I like them abit more stable. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the 66s aka 9 inch trucks with a 8.6 ?

    My first trucks were Indys, but then I skated Ventures pretty much the entire 90s/00s and have finally switched to Indys again about 10 years ago. I did have a set of Thunders at one point, and also Orions, but they were so shit.

    did not like my aces for a while but i'm pretty used to them now after a year and they definitely sturdied with age. they always felt unstable and cheap though and for some reason the base of the trucks have had a couple chunks of metal just completely break off :? but luckily i am nearly down to the kingpin now and onto new green pastures ;))))))))))))))

    I'm confused about the fact that neither gifted hater nor the comments section are talking about switching the bushings on your trucks.
    i don't know much about how trucks work, but as far as i know, the looseness or tightness solely comes from how soft or hard the bushings are and how tight/loose the kingpin is pulled. so that doesnt say much about the trucks, since it can easily be adjusted.
    please correct me if i'm wrong.

    Why don't you just replace the bushings with either Bones Soft or the Ace replacements? Ace bushings don't need to be broken in BUT they don't last anywhere near as long as Indy bushings but then what does? Indy makes awesome bushings once you break them in. I love my Ace AF1 55s and 33s but I still have to ride 215s on my 10" pig boards. GREAT review, btw! Nothing but relevant info and you don't have that annoying habit of repeating yourself. 😆 Keep up the good work and all the best. *Liked & Subscribed.
