Thank you for sharing a legit analysis! All the videos I've seen so far are basically plot summaries with simple, obvious conclusions. All 3 of the themes you presented are so applicable to our modern world, especially in the past few years with Covid and rampant misinformation. Your video helped me put all the pieces together for a fuller picture of the film's message. Thank you!

Haha yeah I'm just like you, I've never really been a fan of the summary-style explained videos, I prefer an analysis rather than a recap, it's way more fun. But I'm glad you could find this one and you enjoyed it! Like you said, the themes so closely reflect the way we've been over the past 3 years, and the book was written in '85 which is crazy. Thank you so much for watching!!

I casually put this on Netflix and then gave it about 20 percent of my attention as i went back on my phone. From the trailer and overall production i thought it looked like a Steven Spielberg wannabe movie. Even the music was nostalgic. But then that first supermarket scene had me confused at the rhythm of the dialogue. Then noticed what they were saying. Then i realized the movie is called white noise and it felt as though i was being tested to see if i was really paying attention or if i had it in the background like white noise. 😳

Such a concise and clear summary on the main themes! I played with the idea of Dylar being an elixir for longer life (Dylar - Die later), and not just a cure for anxiety revolving death. Also loved the part where Jack sees death, Mr. Gray, at the supermarket entrance, with the text "Thank you for shopping" at the above door. Such a melancholic take on dying, whilst only trying to "buy" happiness. Really loved your review, great work!

Well done. Am I crazy, or did they use different color palates to represent different moods at times. And why were all Murray's groceries black and white. And is the grocery store purgatory? Is Murray an angel? This movie was beyond my comprehension.

It’s the generic aisle lol - remember? This was before stores had their own brand name stuff. All the labels were grey and yellow, and plainly labeled “beans” or whatever.
The kids at school would diss by calling things generic. I think it was the name of the aisle on the overhead sign.

I can’t be the only one who thinks this movie has heavy fight club influences? This movie was really interesting! I just finished watching it this morning and I love how psychological it was. Using concepts of time, death, light and darkness to showcase the inevitability of the cycle of life. I really enjoyed the atmosphere created by the different filming techniques the 70s styled set was beautiful. Totally agree on the articulation of each character being a very powerful way to capture the audience and signify the importance of embracing the unknown. Much like jack doesn’t question who the man is in his bed despite being scared. I love the way Babette speaks haha

Best review I've seen by far. I especially appreciate your analysis of the "Dylar Affair," as opposed to what everyone else seems to be framing as "her cheating" or "her confession." They totally miss the point describing it that way, and you NAILED it. When Jack tries to frame her in terms of himself ("The whole point of Babbette is that she speaks to me. She reveals and confides."), she says, gorgeously, "This is not a story about your disappointment in my silence. The theme of this story is my pain and my attempts to end it." What a fun script. Wow.

I read the book many years ago. It tells the story of the characters, sure, but unlike most stories, the footprint left in my mind was not their story or death blah blah, but the ingenious way it reveals the absurdities of how we listen to the media tell us the weather vs looking outside, or, having seen firsthand account, only accepting what we saw after the media tells us that it’s a “feathery plume”.
The book is a trainload of exposing “the media is the medium” - the mechanics of which are best characterized by the scene at Daffodil about the real event being a subordinate topic to the simulations of a disaster. Utterly brilliant dialog, and spelling out the construct of so many other points the book and movie make. This film is up there with The Big Lebowski.
    Great video!! 👏👏

Also, did you notice the tv in the motel room played a video of him “entering her body”? That was an interesting callback to her annoyance with authors speaking of women this way, it was something she did not want to hear and certainly not something she’d consent to in the way they portray his entry or maybe it showed just how desperate she was to seek relief that she’d give her body to be entered so entirely that he became 100% within.
I had some moments of pondering if their children were actually, in reality, one child who was dealing with their gender identity. I thought it interesting she clung to the toddler and interacted with the eldest daughter but insofar as the other2, I’m not sure she really saw them ormuch listened. It seemed peculiar towards the Ed when she stated her one great hope is that “Wilder” forever stay the age he is…maybe I just read too much into the drawing and rubber penis not noticed or give attention by Jack and then the way the kids seemed to be in unison while in the possible “afterlife/grocery store” but other times they either speak all over each other in hard to follow/understand conversation trains of thought while in other parts only one seems to be active.

I thought there was a montage of "what is reality?" when they were checking into the camp. The computer operator said that it was all a simulation. Then there's a whole discussion about scientific explanations. Outside, the shadows on the tent look like Plato's shadow puppets from The Cave (that is, what we see as reality is just a shadow of the real reality). And I think they run through the options for those that realize we will die and everything is meaningless (religion, suicide, stoicism, avoidance, and self-created meaning - according to Tolstoy.)

I have not read the book, and I'm not sure how faithful the film is to the source material. But I feel it was a huge misstep to make this film. Not every book is transferable to film. Some just don't work. And to me, this film did not work. Unlikeable characters monotonously rambling on and on about these very heady topics... So much symbolism squished into every scene it made me cringe.

This is how they did 9/11 preprogrammed Lone Wolf TV episode months before the actual event. Then running trying exercises on Air traffic controllers screens of simulated hijackings the day of 9/11. Notice in “White Noise” he is arguing with the emergency response team that was their for the simulation of the actual event say “the disaster is practice for the exercise” while in real life the filming of movie of “White Noise” acclimating its residents for the planned out toxic Train derailment disaster. While atheist nuns are used to try and take the souls of its extras to Hell. Satanic evil and criminal planning and executing premeditated murder of Palestine, OH residents!

@@dukevalentino yea that Titan book was written in 1897 15 years before the Titanic sunk, why they remade the movie on the Titan books 100 yr anniversary I think. JP Morgan had bought the shipping lanes (Europe’s migrant ships) to go along with his trains. Nov 11, 1910 Jekyll Island the planned the Federal Reserve. Said your crazy untill the 100th anniversary then they had a 100 year celebration where they had previously said nothing had happened at. Well they killed all the opposition (Aster’s) to the Federal Reserve on the Titanic April 15, 1912 on the next Christmas Day they literally voted in the Federal Reserve Act (Not federal no reserves) and have you pay taxes on the Sinking of the Titanic’s anniversary April 15th every year, crazy. Not to mention they killed JFK 53 years to the day of the Nov 11, 1910 Jekyll Island meeting Nov 11, 1963. It’s the British Royal Family with the Rothschild’s that run the show. By way of the CIA & they own the IRS why it’s headquarters is in Porto Rico (Port of Riches). These people invented Corporations as legal people own the equity groups above the corporations that appoint these corporations CEO’s. Used Knights Templar’s (now Freemasonry’s) Fiat money system in place of our constitutional Gold & Silver requirements. CIA killed Kennedy Queen took over USA. HW did it with Woody’s father why they cast him in “Natural Born Killers”, “LBJ” (the person that called the hit), and “The Hunger Games” teaching Katniss how to assassinate Presidents Coin & Snow cause his daddy did in JFK in real life.

British monarchy is Not British they are Vampires literally. House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha trace the bloodline back to vlad the impaler Vlad III (actual Dracula) Transylvanian. Why do you think on one side of Walt Disney World is Hotel Transylvania - The Haunted Mansion Experience it’s about the British House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. On the other side of Disney World is Space mountain where Warren Von Braun the Nazi that landed us on the moon for NASA opened up the ride w Walt Disney himself. I mean they the CIA had Charles Manson kill Rosemary in Walt Disney’s original house the month after the moon landing. That is for a blood sacrifice to Rosemary Kennedy the Moon (lunatic Lunar child) “Rosemary’s Baby” movie June 1968 released days after her brother Robert Kennedy was a blood sacrifice to the movie about his sister exaggerated. Ted is murdering his secretary after Apollo 11 (July 1969) launched blood sacrifice to the Moon ritual not to mention the director’s wife of Rosemary’s baby murdered along with her unborn child Manson was CIA. I could just keep going to. I mean Arnold is the 33rd cloned child of Hitler in “Boys from Brazil” about the Twin Dr (Josef Mengele) why you think Arnold stared in the movie “Twins” his mother in law ran Special Olympics why Rosemary’s lobotomy created the Special Olympics (what here father did to Rosemary Kennedy is the most evil thing) maybe not I mean we are talking about Mengele the evil behind Hitler. They cloned Hitler that is the big secret Mengele used Rosemary Kennedy for and just told you in the movie “Boys from Brazil” Amazon has a spin off now called “the Boys”. Queen I would guess knows or planned part of these. My guess is there is a secret group that uses Adrenochrome & that it is so evil to make those that have taken it will never & I mean ever talk and they have been doing it since Vlad III would use impaled people to extract the adrenaline. I think it was after the Civil war British monarchy killed Lincoln, with a Shakespearean actor no less, when he would Not agree to pay back the Civil war debt they got a foothold over the US the two treasures of both the North & the South were Juda Benjamin & Augusta Belmont Rothschild bankers.

The message of the Bible is that no matter how evil you think you are, no matter how far you feel you are from God, you can get right with God. You can go to heaven.
All you have to do is put your full trust in Jesus. The message of the Bible is that Jesus was punished for all the evil things you have done or will ever do. He loved you so much that he was willing to die a horrible, brutal death for what you did. He was punished for your actions. If you believe in him and trust him you will have eternal life with God. You will not go to hell because Jesus already went for you.
All you have to do is trust in Jesus. Nothing else. You don't have to go to church. You don't have to give money to people. You don't have to do anything but believe in what Jesus did. That he sacrificed himself for you so that you could go to heaven.

Good content, but you fall into the same trap as the other less successful reviewers: you're too in love with your own voice. You think these pauses and slow roll of words makes it dramatic. It doesn't, especially if it's a part you're only narrating. If you want better effect, when you get to those pauses, make sure the camera is on you. A dramatic pause isn't dramatic if we can't see it. But the choppy, dramatic slow sentences and pauses for effect.. No bueno. It doesn't look as cool as you think it does. Cool, just trying to help... Good luck!

The film adaptation was a letdown. I’m a Baumbach fan but several things didn’t work. Greta Gerwig as Babette was miscast. In the novel, she feels more mature, more like the glue of the family. It’s Jack who seems like the neurotic and needy parent. The scene when she admits to taking the pills in the novel is weighty, but in the film, it feels so flat. She’s trying to emote but doesn’t succeed.
There were many things that were omitted and altered in the film. The third act was far more quirky, lighthearted, and comical in the adaptation. But in the novel, you see Jack starting to crack and it’s more disorienting. It’s a plan gone awry and Babette isn’t part of the sequence.
I was most looking forward to how they were going to film Wilder on the highway (if you’ve read the novel, you’ll understand) but the section was omitted. Instead the film chooses to introduce an ominous boogie man in Jack’s bedroom, and really exaggerates the scene where they follow the Land Rover. The film never mentions how much more intense and beautiful the sunsets are after the “ATE”.
As with any film adaptation, compromises must be made and editorial choices create a different product than the original, but I was most disappointed in the tone of the film.
The dialogue was so deadpan and lifeless. The tone was more overtly comical and quirky where the humor was much darker and subtle in the novel. The chemist doesn’t inform Jack that she’s finally got some news on this mysterious pill he had her analyze. In the movie, he calls a number and Mr. Gray is basically a drug dealer. The suspense is reduced to a sliver.
The things I did like were the performances of the children, especially Heinrich and Denise. The actor gave me a little bit more Jesse Eisenberg vibes, but overall, they were pretty true to their characters in the novel.
The Airborne Toxic Event was filmed in an overtly Amblin style, which felt like a nice touch. And it felt very true to an 80s style Spielberg film. Don Cheadle was good as Murray, even though he was different than I had imagined. Driver was also good as Jack, but also different from what I had imagined.
Ideally, a novel like this would have been better served as a multiple episode limited series. That way it wouldn’t have to sacrifice as much and could really get into the nuances of the mood and undertone. This is a classic case of the book being better than the film. But isn’t that usually how it goes?
