We have a general idea of our route but book places to stay the night before and just ask locals about cool places which end up taking us on the coolest adventures! We spent a month backpacking through Europe for our honeymoon and our favorite places were ones we had never even heard of before we were already there and someone mentioned it to us!
I'm from New Zealand and I love that you strayed away from the typical tourist locations and went off road! That is what traveling New Zealand is all about! Hope you had the best time! :)

And by the way, I'm pretty sure that siren is used because there has been an accident nearby, and they're asking for medical professionals in the area to come over and help.

i live in New Zealand and i dont know if you found out what the siren was but its for volunteer fire fighters. when theres an emergency they sound the alarm so volunter fire fighters at their home or where ever they are can go and help out because they arent always at the station! 💕 i know they sound scary haha i thought they were tsunami warnings when i first heard them! 😂

Well I think a lot of people would love to go there, but it's not that easy. In my country we need a permission I think and I ever heard that you Can only visit once, not sure tho. Aaand the plane tickets are also very expensive.

SO THIS IS AMAZING because when I went to New Zealand I did the same cart race down that mountain, went on the same speed boats, visited the same glowworms, and stayed in that same B&B with the petting zoo!!
