Bones is currently based on the river Thames, he talks about how this lifestyle has brought him closer to nature and gives him the creative space he needs as a musician.
He gives us an insight into the ups and downs of his off grid lifestyle and how he has made this place his home for the foreseeable future.

I am absolutely obsessed with this boat and I've watched the video 9 nines times now. It is my aesthetic to a tee and I just imagine myself curled up on that settee on a windy rainy night reading an M R James book by the light of the fire. The BEST narrowboat interior I've ever seen. You should be as pleased as punch with yourself for designing and building such an atmospheric home.

Great video can I ask how you connect to the internet. Must have been worth the two years of not much life because now you have a beautiful detached home with a million dollar view and mortgage/ Rent free , jobs a gooden .
Love the boat and your amazing to this ex senior manager in the I.T. industry, now retired , a very different but perfect response to boating life. So pleased to have found you. My partner is an ex model , actress and professional singer so I understand your life to an extent. I retired with my partner to a remote spot on the Jurassic Coast in a small but well modernised cottage. If I was 30 years younger I would have taken the narrow boat life. Stay safe and well.

Thanks for sharing your version of the narrow boat life. There's a fair number of YT videos with a similar theme, but few match the thoughtful honesty and aesthetic of this one. One major difference is that most narrow boaters seem to be constantly on the move, or thinking about moving, craving the stimulation of new surroundings and people, where you have opted for isolation and fixity - at least for now!

Wonderfully inspiring. I had never considered a boat for an off-grid retreat, but it's beautiful.
That's the best fitout I have ever seen. It's properly clever that. These boats usually get brightened up from the oak style interiors but actually, going for the really deep blacks and bronze is genius. It adds real character. Love the chill room with the swan hatches too. Amazing.

Narrowboating is quite impossible here (in central California) and at my age, but it is very enjoyable to see and read about. Certainly there are people who buy a house expecting to profit from it, but they are typically very poor short term investments. Best to get it as a place to live, be it afloat or aground.

The real reason few live this way is because few can live this way. I too live a very different life then most. It is not for everyone as you mention. My life like his / yours.... is a life I love yet a life few could deal with for more then a few days or weeks... It is a life that only the very strong mentally stable and strong can live...

This is the first video I’ve ever seen about living on a long boat. I love it. Congrats to you.
The lack of an high e string was the first thing I noticed. I wondered how a professional musician did not replace it before filming. Noticed it seems missing in all his pictures so it's a conscious choice. The fact that he's not even mentioning it speaks volumes about the sort of natural non conformity necessary to successfully pull off a project like this.

I actually looked into a canal boat myself a few years ago but the mooring costs were really expensive. It's not just the initial purchase price - there are quite a few other financial considerations.
Keep up the content. Great stuff.
I think in England one is entitled to moor up anywhere for a few days at a time... have to keep moving on but escape those mooring fees - which can defo be extortionate!

Love narrowboats. Perfect for a writer or musician.
Good colour palette with warm tones mirroring the flames giving a calm "veneer of Vemeer" from the resultant medieval building characteristic low light contrasts. Adze-honed woodwork would enhance it even more and some texture from flamed and wire brushed timber (oak ideally painted with vinegar and wire wool affords black) could add a bit of eye candy texture. Very relaxing ambience the result.

very cool video! I've always loved those long boats although I've never been on one. I live in Canada and play music and write songs, I travel around in a Motorhome Bus style not as long as your boat though hahaha. Mine is only 33ft long. But we love it.
