  • There are lots of videos about setting up Hammocks but very few cover the entire setup that includes the Hammock, Bug Screen, Under Quilt, and Rain Fly. I decided it was time to fix that because setting up a hammock and accessories has a bit of a learning curve. After watching this video you'll be able to avoid some of that curve.

    i have same setup, their great, best sleep ever no more cold hard ground or air mattress deflating while you sleep
    but i found these steps much easier to set up for me
    first i hang hammock - then the under quilt - then i pass my arm through the entire bug screen like a sleeve then i slide it over hammock and quilt
    don't worry about ridge line for bug screen until after screen is in place
    i hope this also works for you
    happy camping

    Omg, 4:30 I did not know that. I was sitting at my campsite for almost an hour until I just gave up (I’m was using the hammock as a relaxing seat with a free stand tent). Thank you for pointing that out for me.

      It all seems simple until your in the backcountry hiking with less than a hour until sunset. Thats not the time to be trying to figure out a new system.... trust me, I've done it. I wanted to provide some of the details that aren't quite as commonly covered but theres no substitute for practice. Glad to help CeeCe and thanks for watching.

    I modified a sleeping bag to act as under and top quilts and used a compression sack at each end as rainbreaks, everything goes in one pack and is ready to deploy.

      Thats what its all about, trying things out. I recently tried hammock camping without an under-quilt. Temps were low 50's. I had a 15 degree bag. Figured I'd be ok....lol. I was wrong. I got up in the middle of the night on put on every piece of clothing I had and still was chilly. I like your concept, have you tried it out yet?

      @@MikeWilley Not in anger no but I was sat out on an 8°c evening under the tarp and the thermometer inside the bag read 30+°, I'm a hotblooded bunny so I'm more worried about cooking myself than freezing where I am currently :-D there's a quickshot of the setup on my channel though for visual effect, my next job is sewing some loops and a running line in to pull it up to the hammock when the bags open.

      Footnote* it's been up in the garden through some pretty decent rain and the gaiters work perfectly, I'm toying with the idea of packing the tarp in with it but that's a mod or two away yet 👍

    Thanks for the video, been looking for a good video using the bug net. Trying to decide whether it's worth getting the hummingbird stuff, or getting a hammock with a bug net included.
    As for the trees being too close, it looked like you had enough extra tree strap that you could just wrap it once more around the tree to shorten it.

    Great video Mike. If our like me and like trying difference gear and want to try a hammock with the bug net attached I have a Dream Hammock and a Warbonnet XLC that I could let ya try out. Also if you every want to do an overnight or a few nights out and want a second person so cars can be staged, hit me up. I do a couple 10 day trips on the AT a year as well shorter trips whenever I can get out.Ben Miller

    Great video. Thank you. I'd like to see the tarp be hung first, then the hammock and screen. If you have to set up in rain, your hammock will get wet while you hang everything else. What are your thoughts?

    • @MikeWilley
      @MikeWilley  2 года назад +1

      I would definitely put the tarp up first if I had any fear of weather issues. Other than that, I usually try to not even use the tarp. Thanks for the comment.

    This dude in the flops out there. Get some camjams and paracord my barefooted friend

    • @MikeWilley
      @MikeWilley  Год назад

      Lol, whats wrong with flops man? I love my flops in the summer. The Hummingbird Hammock is all about ultra-light weight gear. Camjams would be a much easier setup but they are much heavier than Hummingbirds straps. I definitely use paracord and carabiners for some of my other setups. It just depends on the trip.

    what happens if it is raining? can you put the tarp up first and set everything else up underneath?

    Enjoyed watching the tent hammock set. I bought one from Humming bird a while back been waiting to use this summer for some shorter thru hikes. Normally use my Zpacks Duplex, UGQ quilt, and Thermarest pad. After nearly 20 years military I'm always looking to make things lighter on my knees and back. Subscribed to your channel. You should check us out if you get a chance.

    • @MikeWilley
      @MikeWilley  2 года назад

      10 minutes or so. I have a setup I'm about to do a video on because I originally bought it for my son. He has literally never set a hammock up of any type. We went on a trip and I told him to unpack and see what he could figure out while I was setting mine up and then I would help him finish. He literally unpacked and had everything done in less than 3 minutes flat. I went ahead and bought several of those setups. lol. Video coming soon.

    I'm guessing that all those products were hummingbird since your hammock, bug net and tree straps definitely were. What is your opinion on that under quilt and tarp from hummingbird?

    • @MikeWilley
      @MikeWilley  2 года назад +1

      Correct however I have a new setup and I'll be doing a video on that one soon. Hummingbird is lighter but my new setup is incredibly fast.

    Bruh... If your straps are too long, you don't need to find new trees... just wrap the tree straps around the trunk a few more times.

    • @MikeWilley
      @MikeWilley  Год назад

      Depends on the size of the tree but for sure that would be the easiest. Thanks for watching.
