It's funny how these two guys have like 2 hours of youtube videos where they kiss on the lips. And still everything people say is "they are really good friends". Is it some kind of "historians be like" joke?...
It's more the fact that this is a simple gesture of showing support to the LGTB community. The entire reason they started doing this is because Russia is incredibly homophobic and gay people have to fear for their life. They do this to say "fuck your homophobia".
Paul is in a long lasting relationship with a woman and Richard is known for acting like Casanova. Doesn't mean they don't have the hots for each other, but that's none of our business. I personally don't really see either of them as being gay or bi, maybe Richard could be bi, but who cares? That's private and not really something we should blow out of proportions.
All we see here is two friends showing love to each other. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen kiss everytime they see each other too. Two men kissing each other as a simple sign of friendship should just be normalized anyway. Women do it a lot too and no one just jumps onto the lesbian train immediately.

being russian lgbt representative myself, I have also to say one thing. even though it is portrayed in social media that they did the kiss to support Russian lgbt community, the tradition to kiss after Ausländer started way before the concert in Moscow. you can see it here in this channel. they kissed on their homestage in Berlin (first day of Pride month), then two times in Dresden (where every Monday right-wing party has protests against current government), then there was one kiss in UK and one peck in Warsaw. not to mention the forehead kisses from München.
the kiss in Moscow happened very late in timeline and it got attention, because they posted it in their instagram.

Paul has been kissing Richards shoulder during live shows in 1997. But this specific kiss during Ausländer turned it into a recurring event that is now a fixed part of their live shows.
It's not a question anymore if and when they will kiss, fans now know that they *will* kiss during the show, either during the Ausländer solo or at the beginning of Mein Teil. And it got the wanted attention in Russia, because that one's such a "problematic" country when it coems to gay rights, as you probably know yourself. I also believe it was during a time where the rights for the community where questioned severly (not 100% sure about that)?
But like you said: It literally doesn't matter why they do it. They just do it and it's cute, nothing more to say :D

@@Jemppu Richard was at it in the 90's when he would steal kisses off Paul on stage. There's footage of him doing that and kissing Paul's shoulder from behind. Paul was only joining in more recently.
