Very pretty gown Laura, I would make a velvet ribbon choker & an hair accessory to go with it. But yes, you could totally wear it for Valentines 💘 day too. ✂️
You know "the red gown" every Hallmark heroine wears at the end of a Christmas movie? It's a wowzer of a statement dress, usually worn to a holiday event/party/dinner where the hero sees her and they finally share a first kiss? Well this dress is BETTER than any of the red gowns I've see in those films. Well done.
Holy inspirational ! From no pattern to a ball gown in less than a day. I seems you might have even slept. LOL You look radiant in it. Great colour of red for your skin tone.
Haha, I actually did sleep somewhere in there too! Thank you SO much! Not my wisest decision to save it for the last minute, but I'm so glad it turned out!!
The pointed waist is so pretty!! Love the idea of putting another skirt underneath as a petticoat. And the videos from the party are so fun and festive!! ❤️
You are incredibly talented, Lauren! This red dupioni silk gown looks so much better than the inspirational one out of polyester. I even like the bow straps better on your dress. The color and pointed waist line suit you so well! And I don't mind the continuation of Christmas content 😄 looking forward to the next video 🙂
Such a beautiful dress. I'm in awe that you could make that in such a short space of time. I'm the slowest sewist, it took me an entire weekend to make a simple skirt with just 3 pieces last week 🤣!
Thank you so much Sarah!! I think I would do myself a service by saving myself more time and not procrastinating so much, haha! For me it can totally depend from week to week! ❤️
What a stunning gown! I love that you just started it, cutting into a bolt of red silk, like it’s no big deal! Now, I want to make a fabulous Christmas gown!
Wow! Such a beautiful dress and a gorgeous color! I envy your confidence to make adjustments and pull it off in such a short time! I’d be so nervous to get started!😂
You’re SO kind, thank you so much Dianne! Someone once jokingly told me “if you wait until the last minute, it only takes a minute.” And I think I took that too much to heart 😂❤️
Thank you so much! I’m SO sad because as you’ll see at the very end of these video, the wallpaper has been falling down! 😭 It would seem peel and stick and old plaster don’t mix 💔
I just adore this dress ! I made a dress for my daughter for Christmas out of raw silk and it was a dream to sew ! Your bag was literally perfect! Your videos are always a joy to watch. 💞💞
I absolutely love how this dress turned out! And I’m quite jealous about the ball, I used to attend English country Dances in high school and they were so fun.
The dress is stunning, Lauren! You're so talented and creative... this channel is always an inspiration! I'm so sorry about the wallpaper... it happened to me as well! Peel and stick wallpaper doesn't match with humidity, I knew that because I saw several videos on how to remove wallpaper simply spraying a bit of water on it... but I wanted to try it anyway and it ended up falling off the walls just like yours because of the humid climate we have over here. Ps. The light blue sweater you wore at the beginning of the video looks so good on you
Thank you so much Paola!! ❤️❤️❤️ oh I’m so sorry to hear you had the same frustrations with your wallpaper! I really didn’t do enough research beforehand 😭 I was hoping it would stay, but I’m just going to have to save the idea until I live somewhere I can use the real thing I think!
Such a festive and pretty, pretty red ballgown....You did an excellent job putting it together...what a marvelous party your sister had....English Country Dancing how delightful....Happy New Year...looking forward to seeing more of your creative ideas...All the best...Melanie Fay..
That looks beautiful! I used that top pattern before, and it also was too loose at the top. I think it's just the way it is. I had to take it in a lot to fit better!!
I knew you would pull this off but I was amazed by how beautiful it looked in person when you showed up 🤩🤩🤩 always astounded by you & your creations!!! 😍😍 thank you for coming to the ball! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you SO much! I would say maybe somewhere between the two ways it shows up on camera! I think a bit darker because the sheen tends to catch the light on camera!
Beautiful gown! If you had to estimate how much it cost to make, what would you say? If you had to buy the fabric, and how much did you use? Did you cut the top of the skirt at an angle to match the waist line? I am enjoying pattern hacking and have wanted to do this in a curved waistline and wondered how to alter the skirt.
Thank you so much! The fabric was free to me as a family member had it and wasn’t using it, and I already had the pattern, so the only purchase I made was the zipper. I’d estimate 5-6 yards of fabric used. I didn’t change the angle at the top of the skirt, although I expected to need to! Once the gathers were adjusted, it added fullness to the sides, but remained even at the hem line. I think this is in part due to the structure of the fabric. Thanks so much for watching!
Question: Did the center front of the skirt need to be trimmed/evened out more, due to the dip of the pointed bodice? I wasn't quite sure if you mentioned it in the video
Ohh great question, I think I forgot to discuss it! I initially thought I would need to make it a bit shorter in front to accommodate that change, but somehow it seemed even just with an even trim all around! It doesn’t make mathematical sense to me, haha!
Your family is so fun and you look so very beautiful in the dress! Have you seen any of these wonderful Christmas movies? The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant, Desk Set with Katherine Hepburn, Holiday Affair with Robert Mitchum. Since you Went Away with Claudette Colbert it's not totally Christmas but set in the season. Beyond Tomorrow. A Gift of Love A Christmas Story with Angela Lansbury. Our Vines have Tender Graps Edward G Robinson.
Aw thank you so much Cindy! ❤️ And thank you for the movie list! I’ve only seen The Bishop’s Wife and Holiday Affair from this list, so definitely noting down the others to watch!!
This vlog was so fun to watch. The gown is gorgeous. How fun, having a Christmas ball! Neat!

Aw thank you Moyra! It’s amazing how versatile they can be! ❤️
I know you love floral, but you look beautiful in red. The dress was perfect and your sister’s party looked like so much fun.
Thank you so much Shelly! It was a fun departure to work with the red- maybe I’ll wear at more! You’re giving me the confidence to try!

Thank you SO much Lisa!! So glad you don’t mind a bit more Christmas too- I’m finishing up my thrifting video today! ❤️❤️
I will repeat what others have said: that is the Most Perfect shade of red, and it suits you. Beautiful!!
Oh thank you so much!! I don’t wear red a lot, but maybe I’ll try it more! ❤️
Die Tanzszenen machen so viel Freude. Dein Kleid ist einfach traumhaft und die Farbe sieht grossartig an dir aus, so wunderschön.
Thank you so much!! We had a lot of fun dancing! ❤️
Beautiful dress. Can you please talk about tips and tricks for sewing fine fabrics. I’m scared to try!!
Such a beautiful dress. I'm in awe that you could make that in such a short space of time. I'm the slowest sewist, it took me an entire weekend to make a simple skirt with just 3 pieces last week 🤣!

The dress turned out beautifully! I can't believe how quickly you made it. The color and fabric are so flattering!
Thank you so much!! So so kind! I may have to wear this color more often! ❤️
"I need to go change out of my ballgown now and put on work clothes." What a vibe. 😄❤ Also, that color is AMAZING on you.
Haha, aw thank you!! I felt like a kid playing dress up!! And thank you so much! I’m feeling inspired to wear this color more!! ❤️
What a stunning gown! I love that you just started it, cutting into a bolt of red silk, like it’s no big deal! Now, I want to make a fabulous Christmas gown!
Ah thank you so much, probably against my better judgment, but we’ve had the fabric for so long haha! It was originally for my aunt to make curtains!

Utterly beautiful!

So absolutely gorgeous!! I couldn’t make that if I had a month of Sundays, yet you created a masterpiece in 24 hours! So talented!

@@LaurenJohnsonit was a pleasure 🤩🤩 haha can’t wait to see what you come up with 😍🤩❤️
Wow, it came out so well! The red looked darker in the mirror, is it closer to the bright red in real life? Either way, you definitely suit red!
