"I did that thing where you're having so much fun that you forget you're filming a RUclips video" girl!!! 😂 I love to hear it! You can see how much you enjoy sewing and it's contagious! I'm working on my first dress and it's all your fault! ❤
I love your channel so much because I feel so represented by how chaotic and excited you get about little details and finishes. When I'm working on a fun new pattern I also let out random "woo!"'s and go "yeahhhhhh". (I recently got the pattern drafting for fashion design textbook and i'm obsessed, there's a whole section on pockets!!!!)
When you showed the dress in the end, I had this big silly smile across my face the entire segment, it is soooo beatiful and suits you so well! The details, fabric choices, construction and silhouette are just perfection :)) Love your videos, you are such a bright star :) Keep on shining!
The dress is stunning and would look beautiful as your wedding dress too!!! So much talent 🥰. I love sewing but hate patterns so you getting through this project and drafting your own modifications so quickly blows my mind.
After a couple of years of obsessing about sewing videos and learning all I could I finally got a sewing machine!! And I can say that your courageous and easy-going personality encouraged me to get it, so thank you so much!! I am kind of scared but really excited and happy about it because I get to practice a new hobby now!! I'm lost and don't know where to start, but I'm sure I can figure it out in baby steps :) keep doing what you do, you are awesome!
My advice in getting started in sewing, as someone that has sewn for 40 years and got… I’m not even sure how many people started in their sewing lives now! Start one of these three projects. A tote bag, a very simple sleeveless top or an A-Line skirt. If you like skirts, go for that. If you like loose fitting tops, go for that (don’t go for it if you like close fitting clothes because you won’t like it). If neither of them float your boat, go for a bag. All are pretty simple to give you a confidence boost of creating something useful and pretty, but hopefully not difficult enough to discourage you. For a top, the Angela Kane 532 Sleeveless Top PDF Sewing Pattern (free) looks pretty good. For a skirt, the Tessuti Libby A-Line Skirt Pattern is good. For a bag maybe the DIY reversible tote from Made everyday. All of them are simple but have some ever so slightly advanced techniques still very achievable by beginners. It’s so much easier to get very advanced with sewing very quickly these days with so many RUclips and written tutorials. Not easy, but easier, if that makes sense. I should probably say, it can be less frustrating than it used to be when I learnt initially ◡̈ Good luck and just have fun! Try not to let failures let you down, treat it as Carly does, anything that doesn’t quite work or turns out very different to how you expect is a learning experience more than a failure. It’s something I wish I’d been able to do when I was younger! I let things upset me way too often.
This is INCREDIBLE absolutely in awe of the skill and patience required. I’m now so tempted to try a top from this designer - thank you for introducing me to them!
I literally finished the Roberts Wood Drafter's Grid pattern while watching this, you're not wrong when you say it's time intensive! I think I worked on it for about 3 weeks. I was contemplating this bows dress as well so I loved watching your process - it turned out beautiful!!!
This is amazing and such a feat!! I'm so inspired to sew my own Roberts Woods pattern now. Quick tip: when you're adjusting pattern pieces, you can cut off the seam allowances, make your adjustments to find your stitching lines, and then add a seam allowance back on. This might make it easier to true up your seams!
I really hope this is going to make sense..When adjusting the pattern pieces for extra length, would instead of adding to top and bottom of pieces, would it be better in future to split the pattern piece down the horizontal middle and spread it to add length without disruption of the way it attaches to next tier? Like slash and spread (horizontally) evenly along the middle of the pattern piece. It can be done with curved pieces as well. This dress looks lovely on you!
WOW. Wow. Wow. I’m baffled at your genius. You’re so right!!!! So much pain could have been saved!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing. I will use this next time!!!!!!!!!
I do some thing similar: copy your top pattern line onto drafting paper and the sides about 1-2”. Then move the pattern piece down by how much you want to extend. Copy the bottom line and sides about 1-2”. Then centre the pattern piece between and draft the rest of the sides. You will only need to make minute adjustments to the side lines to get a smooth line. Xx
Congratulations!! Tip!! To help with any anxiety remember that things will always happen and just roll with it. You can’t control life. Enjoy it. The dress is adorable. Good job!!
LOVING these longer uploads. Its silly but i really look forward to your vids every week, you're such a ray of sunshine and i always feel so inspired after watching
I just started watching you and I've already decided. I love you and I love watching everything your mind comes up with especially all the chaos .Thanks for making content❤
Don't ever stop! I've sewn all my life and I love watching your work and your workings - wonderful, inspiring, very special, instructive and effortlessly endearing. Just gather everything in your videos and flat-fell seam it all then double top stitch and keep your pattern in a draw with other treasures.
OH boy...I really enjoyed this creative sewing video, I have had this pattern on my wish list for a loong time, I was also afraid of it a little bit, but after your video I can feel inspired to challenge my self and tried it too.
Your videos are great for body doubling as I work on my own projects because your enthusiasm and vision are so infectious! I am currently organizing my craft supplies 😅
watching the end made me cry. it is so amazing to see someone put so much work into something that is SO them and love the way they feel. i hope i get to feel that one day too. you look so beautiful. congratulations !!!
Hi Carly B. I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you and let you know I stumbled across your videos for the first time just a week or two ago and your joy, and playfulness with sewing has really pushed me to get into it again. So thank you
This is seriously so so so beautiful, oh my goodness. I think this is by far the best thing you’ve made and I can’t believe this is just your engagement dress and not your wedding dress (which makes me even more so excited to see how much more work and dedication you will put into that). I could truly see every minute of work of those thirty hours you put into this dress. The fabrication and seams are beautiful and the way it twirls is magnificent. You should definitely be very proud of this one. I also loved the longer reveal at the end! It was so lovely to see you and the dress looking so splendidly. I am also just beginning my wedding dress-making journey and am so thrilled that you are making yours at the same time. It’s so inspiring to see how much time and effort you are putting into these dresses and I really want to do the same. So thank you so much for the lovely video and inspiration!! You have definitely become my favorite RUclipsr and sewist that I look up to.
The dress turned out soooo lovely! The twirl factor is 100/10!! And thank you for introducing me to this pattern company, I've had some chiffon and lace bits just languishing in my stash, but they're perfect for a patchwork project!
You look so incredible in that gorgeous dress. I feel like crying it's just so nice. And now to beat off my hubris which is telling me I would be able to complete this project easy 😭 😂
I made a teeny tiny dress for a mouse doll today. It's a simple wrap dress, but I'm learning. And it was so fun to sew along with my favorite seamstress❤ ❤❤❤❤
I think I'm working up to this dress as all my planned projects so far this year are patchwork. So timing this is helpful. I chuckled at respectfully declining taking your time because same....
Bloody blooming heck! I could never! That’s amazing and the end result is beautiful but even thinking of making that pattern as is crimps my brain let alone all the adjustments- that actually worked! You are amazing xx
Love this! I bought this pattern a few months ago when it was their Pattern of the Month and I still haven't jumped into it, but this is very inspiring. Gorgeous work.
Ohhhh I also want to work on this pattern!!! Looks intimidating but exciting to work on! This video will be great to see the level of difficulty 😅 can't wait to see the outcome!!
to elongate, you slash the pattern in the middle and elongate for respective length. with shapes as shown. or in case relevant for body part pcs Wedding dress ? You have just made one. Dress looks great and fully understand your comments regarding the 3d effect.
28:10 if i am not thinking wrong, if you extended the middle of the pattern pieces for the skirt, you couldve avoided the adjustment problem? just a guess
I think I would have used a spray adhesive or seam tape instead of basting. I would not put the tearing cotton with your button placket. For the skirt rows, I would have cut the pieces in half horizontally and added your length that way.
I do see what you mean about the 3D bows looking like bunched up fabric in the skirt, but WOW when you twirl or hold the skirt up, those bows look MAGICAL

Absolutely stunning! 😍 even without the super clear definition of some of the bows, the lace patchwork itself is so so beautiful. Congratulations!
My goodness, you are extraordinary and have the patience of a Saint. I could never. The dress is a knockout. Props to you, Chick. ❤

Good on you for hand basting the lace. I hate hand basting, but sometimes the time spent can save so much mental stress that’s it’s worth the time.
