Thanks legend, exactly what I needed to know to get the job done!
Well done Brendan👌I’m glad it was helpful! Kent
Thanks Kent I thought u had to remove the tap handle which I couldn’t do …. Corroded. But your way solved my problem. Thanks. Rob
Well done Rob👌 Kent
thanks its really helpful!
Super video - thank you!!!!
Thanks so much Robyn, that's very kind! 👍Kent
You answered my problem. Thanks so much
That's awesome Susan, thanks for letting me know. 👍 Kent
omg Thank you! finally I can change my leaking washers
Haha that's awesome, thanks for your comment...it makes it all worthwhile 😉
I have a Kohler kitchen faucet and I need to replace the cartridge inside it. It has no screws and I will have to use channel lock plyers and a towel. I can scratch up the old one since Kohler sent me a new handle and cartridge as part of a warranty claim. I believe there are special tools for this job that have a rubberized surface to remove the part.
Thank you!
Hey Retro Man, you’re welcome🤙 Kent
I had a leaking tap, and had no idea how these particular taps came off. This was perfect and I fixed it with no problems what so ever. In fact, after watching your video I was shocked at how easy it was. Thank you very much!!!!!!!!
Well done Chris, I love it when it all goes to plan hey! cheers, Kent
Life saver I couldn’t figure out how to remove the handle . Thanks
You’re welcome Robert 👍 Kent
wrench=shifter. You saved me getting the angle grinder out
Good on you Steve🤙
Thanks mate! This was exactly what I was looking for. The handles in the other bathroom just pull off a star shaped spindle thing, and I was thinking that the ones in my bathroom were the same. I tried to pull them off and I can't shift them. Next I was going to get a hammer. Now I have seen this video I know how to do it minus the hammer.
Haha, I'm glad you put the hammer down mate, I know how you feel... cheers for letting me know this was helpful, feeling successful 😊Kent
Hi Kent, i was really hoping your clear video would solve my problem but my tap is a monobloc mixer tap with no screw! The only bit that moves is where the tap turns. I've watched a million videos and can't find any that explains what to do. I wondered it it should just pull off? If you have any ideas I would really appreciate it! Thanks :)
Hey Lucie. I don't have a definitive answer for you🤷♂️. What brand and type is it and I'll have a look. Have you tried removing the unit from the bench by the fixing nut on the underside, then with water off you can remove Flexi-hoses, and see if there is a way in to the workings from the underside?
Thanks for replying so quickly Kent. Unfortunately I don’t know the brand but it’s a mixer ceramic disc quarter turn tap with cross heads. Not tried that, I will need to rapidly upskill by the sounds of it 😂
Hi mate, how do you remove a kitchen sink tap handle when the Allen key is not locking in and keeps on spinning? The other side handle locks in fine with the same Allen key. Please kindly advise
hey Adil, that’s a tricky one sorry to hear… maybe the community has an answer for you?
if it were me, I’d get some penetrating oil into that Allen screw, then hold the right sized Allen key in tight and just on an angle enough to try and grip a less stripped part of the head. if it’s protruding at all try and get a set of vice grips on it. all the best👍Kent
I like to use copper grease as well as ptfe tape
Thanks Andrew, yeah, copper grease is great for plumbing threads.. anti-seize!
Hi! That was a great instructional video!
Question, I have a bit of an older 2- handle faucet, with no screws and the cold handle has been getting stiffer and stiffer to twist. Can I open it like you did here and maybe spray some Blast or other type of lube to fix that?
Thanks a bunch!!
Hey Andrea, yes.. I you can get the tap apart I would suggest some 'tap lubricant' it's food safe and seems to stay lubey for longer. Best of luck, Kent
What to do with the washer came from the right side tap? Why did you pick it out from the tap?
Hey Fariha, I wanted to change the tap washers while I had these taps apart. Does that answer your question sorry? 👍Kent
Thanks, Internet Dad.
Haha that’s awesome😂 thanks Emma.
Thanks for your video....unfortunately my tap is completely hidden hold down. Btw as you are down under, do you your taps turn the other way? Lol
Haha Ian, yeah everything is backwards and upside down here, it takes a bit of getting used to. Cheers for the comment and good luck with your tap. Kent
I notice you suggest turning the tap off before you turn the water back on. Why is this? Once I change the washer, I turn the tap on before turning the water back on so that the pipes can flush out any gunk.
Yeah Anjali.. either way is ok, I like to be there checking for leaks when tap starts running. 👍👍 Kent
C'mon mate, you forgot to reinstall that washer. You knew it was there but didn't want to go back and do it again, and didn't think to say "whoops, I'll fix that later" ... LOL!
Haha Sid, nah no mistake here (although I do make a lot of them) if I don’t have a replacement fibre washer I wrap up the thread in Teflon tape 5-10 times and it works well as a substitute! keen eye - well done mate🤙Kent
Tahnks mate I was about to punch the wall.
Frustrating as all hey! Lucky there’s a way that saves a hole in the wall.. good job mate, 👍Kent
Cheers, although 'spanner' might be a better term in Australia than 'wrench'.
Hey JR, that’s funny, I chop and change between the two, we were talking about this the other day.. US viewers always question our Ausy terms so I modify my language to accommodate the masses! Good on you bloke👍Kent
I’ll call it a spanner in my next plumbing video, as a nod to you!
"Shifter" is correct term 🤘
When I moved from nz 100 years ago, a bloke was asking me for a shifter - I had no idea what he was talking about 💁🏻♂️. Shifter is an Aussie thing, spanner is kiwi, wrench is ‘merican.. what else is there?
What if the hood is a cone shape? I can’t grip the silly cheap piece of …….
Oh that sounds like it’s really putting up a fight🙄, would a pair of channel lock pliers help, just remember to cover the surface of the taps with a rag or something so the pliers don’t cause scratches. best of luck mate. Kent
But how to remove the cross thing on the top
you've got me there Vince, sorry. Kent
Shifter mate, that's a shifter.
Hey Sam, I know mate👌(it’s for the US crowd) I had to change to shifter from crescent when I moved to Aussie a long time ago. I’m calling it a spanner now for future videos😂 cheers bud
Nice and simple with a 3 year old tap, no. My bonnet required multigrips wrapped in protection to remove it then I was confronted with a corroded tap body which I have soaked in CRC as no amount of reasonable force would unscrew it. That is far as I can get, at the moment.
Hey Jeffrey, it’s amazing how seized a tap can get and yours isn’t very old!. Best of luck mate, Kent
@@InspireDIY I got it undone after 12 hours soaking, the seat had a little groove across it, I used a battery drill powered re seating tool, made in Australia, to reface it, fitted a new washer and it works like new. Loved your video BTW.
Well done Jeffrey, that's DIY done right.. good job! Kent
I saw Vice grips today on clearance and decide I didn't need them 😢
Haha, that’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard😂
you didn't tell us how to get the handle off. theres a little brass threaded screw that needs to be removed. you need s pecial little tool that bunning sell.if its stuck the little tool breaks..then you find yourself watching heaps of youtube videos that dont help either. i hate plumbing. my spindles are recessed in the tiled wll o no access for a wrench. must get handle off..3 days i been on this
Oh that's no fun mate.. I'm not sure about the tool you are talking about, do you know what it's called?
@@InspireDIY its called a vandal proof tap spanner..made of cheap metal that just bend, also tried a bent nose circlip plier...can't it to budge. up to plan C now..get medieval on its ass..use a hack saw to cut the handle off, unscrew the bell and pull out the spindle with tap socket..only thing i can think of...which means a new set of taps..just my luck :)
@@InspireDIY if you put a mirror under the handle of that tap in your vid you may see the brass bolt with 2 notches...glad in away that i know about these now. i will do my best infuture to avoid at all cost..vandal proof taps..definitely a flaw in the design..they may not even be selling them these days
Oh I know the tool, yeah! Man your taps have put up an epic fight😲. Can you let me know if cutting it off works.. I'm interested in how you get on!
@@mixmechanical2250 I know this is 3 months on but I'd love to know if you found a solution or did you go king kong on it? Those caroma vandal proof are a nightmare. BUT..... I found the solution and am tempted to post a video. All you need is a new handle mounting kit, $6 from Bunnings, a hot air gun and an oven mitt or something to stop your hand getting burnt, I spent hrs using THE tool, homemade tools, pliers and as you said, nothing worked. This way only took about 3-5 minutes.
And when re assembling, made sure there was plenty of plumbers grease coating all the awkward parts so disassembly in the future would be easy. Cheers mate, NZ Plumber, pissed off at caroma for making so many peoples life a misery!! LOL
Are you a kiwi?
Hey Kugel, yeah I am👍 live in Oz though for bout last 17 years. Where are you watching from? Kent
Ridiculous you never ever use thread tape on tap spindles, I work in a major DIY hardware company and this is something I hate seeing. If your going to make a tutorial video, get your facts right people 👎👎👎
Hey S P, what is your suggestion? do you prefer fibre washers? Cheers, Kent
@@InspireDIY hope I didn't insult you to much.
Yes definitely fibre washer as it's the only proper way to seal the spindle. When I show customers the appropriate washer/valve for their taps I also tell them to use a bonnet cleaner and then re-grease, change the black internal rubber O-ring and always replace the fibre washer. This insurers a complete overhaul of the spindle.
