I've ordered the Hammer 88 and I can't wait to express myself on it. I'm currently downloading the Eighty Eight through my other M Audio hardware complimentary software. You play so beautifully.
you have an AWESOME feel to your playing. I'm looking at purchasing an 88 key (weighted) midi controller to use as my main board and my 61 key controller for live performance with my iPad 9.7 pro and being that this has a software package coming along with it, I'm pretty much sold. The only drawback would be there are no sliders on it but I still may get it for the price. Thanks so much for your video Doc!!! #Vibe4Life #MadSalute
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your comment 😊 For the price, its a nice controller. At the moment I’m about to move it to the rehearsal-room and thinking about purchasing a Stage-piano with built-in-sounds for gigs and practice at home. Good luck!
Jae Bell I noticed you said you are planning to use your iPad as your sound module. I started out using my PC laptop and then moved to my iPad Pro, for live performances. Unless M-Audio has recently added iPad compatible software, the free software that does ship with their keyboards, like the Sonivox 88, for example, (which is pretty nice BTW) is PC based only. Regarding your drawback issue of no controls on the Hammer 88: A Korg nanoKONTROL2 is a very small unit you can add to your iPad Pro/M-Audio Hammer 88 setup that will give you 8 Sliders, Knobs, Switches and DAW transport buttons that will allow you control over all the parameters you want on your iPad Pro. Check that piece out. Hope this helps.
Great video, man!! And awesome playing! I’ve been looking to buy a midi controller with a real piano feel. It is between the m-audio hammer 88 and the Casio Privia PX160 as I heard it can be used as a midi controller too and it has graded action. I think the action on the m-audio is not graded and I’ve also heard the PX160 has problems with velocity when used as a midi controller due to the graded action so, I wonder which one would be better. How would you compare those when it comes to imitating an acoustic piano feel?
Hi! Thanks! I've never tried the Casio Privia PX160, and normally i dont like Casio...but i think the feel of the hammer 88 is great. Though, I've recently sold it and bought a Nord Grand instead.
Awesome video. Could you tell how the keys feel? I mean aren't the black keys more sensitive than white ones? 'Cose I have M-audio 88 MK II, and there black keys are a lot more sensitive than white. Thx.
Thank you! I think the keys are just perfect. Its really a hammer action-feel, and just what I need to be able to practice my stuff. I will have it only at home, for gigs I have a Korg Kronos 2. There were a few other controllers that I thought of, but this was cheap and had good reviews.
First, excellent playing. How do the keys feel on this controller? Unfortunately, none of the nearby stores have them in stock. I will have to bite the bullet and order mine online. Any descriptive account will be appreciated. Blessings.
@@siphondhlovu1153 got the casio px s1000. No regrets. Loving it. I have used it on my last few videos. I had a budget for a higher end keyboard. But after spending a long time rest driving them, the casio felt best for me
Ok I have a question, does this keyboard have any contributions to bringing the natural depth of the plugin?... Like does the quality of a piano vst change if hammer action keyboard is used or can the same quality of sound be reproduced with a semi weighted aswell ?.. I hope I could make you understand.. Looking forward for your reply :)
Hi! Sorry for late answer. I think that you can get the same sound quality from any keyboard, but one with hammer action responds much better to how you wanna play. I'm a pianist, used to acoustic pianos, and want a good keyboard action to be able to play the way I want. The M-Audio hammer is a good choice for the money, though I think there are better controllers out there but then you got to pay more of course.
Great playing. How I've downloaded the ALL the software that m-audio provides onto my Mac but I don't know where to put(file) the sounds so that I can hear them. Can you help me?
Hi! I haven't used the Sonivox in a long time, but loaded it into Logic X on my computer, don't remember how unfortunately...sorry....maybe you can find a tutorial somewhere on the internet? Good luck!
Good morning ! I have a similar one since 2 years ago but I do not get all the performance it allows. The manual seems little bit complicated to me. Question: how do you raise / lower the halftones across the whole keyboard and restore values to normal? Thank you very much for your valuable contribution
Hi! Just press and hold down the -button and then press +button, press one time for every halfnote. If you want to lower, do the opposite. Press and hold down the +button and then press -button as many times you need. Good luck!
Hi! I did'nt yet find out how, but I googled it and it should be possible. But I found another way, I launch a software piano through Logic X and transpose directly in Logic. It works very well.

I unboxed the very same Hammer 88... quite a piece of hardware for the price ... the keys are really fully-weighted as expected, love it
Great playing Simon. Just bought one of these. A lot of my decision was
based on your reviews. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for your comment! 🙏🏽 I'm glad I could help ☺️
Beautiful playing man!
Jonathan Huber Thank you very much!
Love your jazz touch !
Thanks! 🙏🏽
That piano string layer sounded great.
Imagine that… He let you hear the instrument WHILE he unboxes. Nice playing too…
This is awesome, absolutely sold me on the keyboard.
Thanks, that's great!
Very beautiful playing.
Hello! Very nice playing! In your opinion: Like a pianist, where is better key action on Hammer 88 or Nord Grand?
Hi! Thanks! The Nord Grand is definitely the one and only:)
@@simonwestmanmusic Ok) no doubt! But is identical to RH3 from Kawai ?

Thanks!

This is as good as keyscape in my opinion.
Thank you so much for this video! Buying this keyboard now.
Thanks! Cool that you´re buying it, I'm very satisfied with my M-Audio Hammer 88.

Is it true that the keys are sharp on the edges and you want be able to do slides? Nice playing btw.. :).
Please reply
Hi! Thanks! Don't think they are sharper than anything else... but to do slides, its better with semi-wheighted keys.
Did you see the 'sharp edged keys' review on Woody's Piano Shack Channel?! :-)
Im proud, mine is comming in 2 day :-) I cant wait to destroy my keystation hehe. THANKS, GREAT Music.
Very nice sound and voicings. What is the name of the first song you played?
Do you know how it feels compared to Roland FP10 or Casio CDP-S100?

Can the software be purchased by it self cause I have the prokeys 88sx & would love to use this software for it.
Hi! Yes I guess so, just google it and there will for sure be answers for that.
Can you transpose on this controller? Or assign it to +/- buttons ?

Greg Jones Stay far away from the transpose button.
How complicated is the recording process, if I may ask?
Hi! Sorry for late answer, its not complicated. I record straight into Logic X and then edit the audio and video in Final Cut Pro X.
What are you using to host the VST?
Logic X
What velocity curve did you use?
Edward Parra Hi! Sorry, can’t remember that....:(
Do you have a midi file of your beautiful playing here?
Sonny Khoeblal sorry, dont have it...😞 but thanks for your comment anyway!
does it come with a pedal?
Soy Sauc3 nope, had to buy it myself
What song(s) are you playing here?
Hi! 1: Everything I love, 2: Improvisation, 3: Celeste, 4: The midnight sun will never set
@@simonwestmanmusic How about the moment before "Ev'rything I love"?
Casper van Rossum Hi! Its just free improvisation intro.
1:50 song name? Please! Sound like SoundTeMP soundtracks.
Lighthalzen-SS Hi! Just free improvisation over some chords.
