The RX-8 was my first car and will always have a special place in my heart. What a brilliant car. Light, nimble, surprisingly fast, surprisingly practical and spacious, and best of all revs to the highest heaven! As long as you take care of it and always keep it topped off with oil an RX-8 will be your best friend.
In general, is the RX-8 a good first car? I keep hearing bad reviews about how it's unreliable for an everyday first car but I just can't get it out of my head! Its stunning and seems so fun.
this is great, absolutely how this car was made to be driven, im just amazed how you did all this with no cel, owned mine for a year now and had about 2 days where i had no cel
No, what he meant by the title is that you have to resist the urge to shift and wait for the car to tell you when to shift. Most people shift in low RPM's which is not good for the engine and it's one of the reasons these cars have a bad reputation. The sound is not a warning, it's the opposite actually, the car tells you it's the perfect time to shift.
It was okay but maybe a night run would allow less traffic and more aggressive turns. Seems like you know your car very well. But if you want crazy views you'll have to get more aggressive with those back roads. People crave madness.
Tip for next time put a mic by the exhaust and overlay to pov footage do we can hear the car better and not just wind noise from the window and no real exhaust sound
So 3rd gear tops at bout 85mph, not bad. My Honda in 3rd was at 104, h22 w/b16 trans and head.. to give high compression but something about these RX8s have me glued, I think it's that redline and unique rotary
The gears I use the most are 2-3-6. 2 for low speed cruising and acceleration, 3 for getting beyond freeway speeds and 6 for general cruising. Second gear reaches 61 MPH.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the rev range has nothing to do with how many gears you need to reach a certain speed. You can have a car with more torque across the rev range, but a lower rev limit, and a longer final drive beacuse of the extra torque. And it will accelerate similarly to the car having a higher rev limit
Good video, always love a nice POV drive. Your hand language, and steering inputs suggest you are really timid while driving spirited at such low speeds. Smooth your inputs, relax your grip, and try steering the wheel in one consistent motion, rather then notchy or back and for like motions. Practice your rev matching and heel-toe.

You should check out rx8club.com, they have a LOT of very useful information. As for the basics, well: 1) Check the ignition coils and spark plugs constantly, and replace them if necessary 2) you MUST NEVER let it overheat, get aftermarket gauges if possible to monitor the temperature, because the stock gauge is pretty much useless. Once the needle starts moving, your engine will likely be screwed by then 3) stay on top of oil maintenance, you should change the oil and filter every 3000-5500 miles depending on your driving style 4) let it warm up for a couple minutes before driving, again, aftermarket gauges are a good idea, you can drive the car without letting it warm up before, but don't rev it past 3000 rpm until operational temperature 5) rev the car to redline {9000 rpm or higher} whenever you run the car to avoid carbon residue, why would you drive a rotary below 4000rpm anyways? 😂 6) add 2 stroke oil into your gas tank when you get fuel, the oil-fuel ratio depends on your car, if you delete the cat, or get a midpipe, add about 8 ounces, if not, then about 4 7) get 10w40 semi-synthetic oil, although the graduation varies depending on your climate, and keep a bottle in your trunk in case you need more .... And I think that's it haha. Hope this was helpful!
