Informative video. Confirms my decision to hold off and wait for the market correction in late 2022 or 2023. I think there'll be enough low mileage examples on the market then that I'll get a decent deal especially as I'll have the cash available to sellers needing to fund their overseas holidays :-)
Peter C best of luck but i think you'll be disappointed. Before the scramble for campers they held their prices. I started in the 90s and nothing has changed. 10K will buy you a wreck, 20K a middle of the road average. If you want a decent van its anything from 25 to 60K plus. They always hold their price and the second hand market has always been high priced. Ive often been asked why so expensive new. Buy a new caravan, say 4 berth good make, around 25K. Buy a new car to tow it another 25K. Now build both into a camper, how can it be cheaper than 50K?
Thanks again Jason. What a terrific insight into today's market. The price comparisons are so interesting. That auto Adria hit the spot for me but I was impressed with the condition of every van shown. And that mate is a credit to you and your business.
I'm sure prices will fall over the next year or so. This will be caused by owners who have bought new or nearly new in 2020 and 2021 selling up. Travel restrictions will be lifted this year and the return to work is well underway. Foreign travel will again be the norm for many people. Those new motor home owners will see their expensive vehicles sitting on the drive with less time to use them. Loans and payment plans will put the squeeze on too. The luxury on the drive will go. The vehicles will be sold back to the market in large numbers. A few new motorhome owners will be converted and keep them but most will be sold. There will be excess supply over demand and prices will fall.
I'm sure they will too... He keeps saying things like "it was 35k, would have been 25k last year, but due to demand it's 33k this year, - you haven't lost a lot of money" But it's only £35k this year because of the demand. in two years it'll be a £23k van and we'll be hearing people talk about the bottom dropping out of the market loosing £12k from the price of a a second hand vehicle in 24 months etc.
Fake environmentalism, and the 'carbon footprint' related bs will follow on from this pandemic. No one other than the rich will be flying abroad around 2030. This is a conspiracy, but not a theory - all the information is available to view yet the general public are hypnotized on local and national affairs. Also inflation will soar, so if you think prices will drop in the next few years you're in for serious disappointment. Parts for my small business are far more expensive already, this isn't 'going back to normal' guys, I promise you.

This is a brilliant video motorhome man, it will save a lot of searching around for anyone looking for a used motorhome, wondering if they are a good buy and maybe if it is worth getting a loan for. You have covered a wide range of models and ages, succinctly without unnecessary waffle and made a very interesting video. And no annoying background music either! I have been buying and using motorhomes a lot for about 30 years and have always thought they are a much better buy than a car.

Hi my friend. If you decide to go make sure Jason is there, I drove for over an hour to get there on Saturday. My wife and I walked around the vans and the guy in the cabin clearly new we were there but couldn't even be bothered to come out to us and introduce himself. So as someone who was just looking for his first Motorhome from what I have seen here this is definitely the wrong time to buy.. I need to wait for some normality and holidays abroad etc to start flourishing and then the bottom will drop out of the prices..Very good informative information here.

We bought our first motorhome, a 2005 CI Carioca in March last year just as things were starting to lock down. We thought that was poor timing as we couldn't go out in it but value wise, it was probably the best time for us to buy it 😀
Here in the U.S., the prices are beyond ridiculous. Even the used sprinter vans, not yet converted to a camper van, sell for more than double what I paid for my house back in the 1990s. Campervans, used, three times what I paid for my house. New, more than four times what I paid for the house.
Truthfully Jason that had I the means to do so I'd get the Peugeot Hilo because of the reverse folding roof as my daily driver and an autotrail 600 D for weeks away, none the less another great video
I think the little baby ones are probably extremely desirable to people who are dying for a holiday but are frightened of driving a longer vehicle. Those who possibly never considered a motorhome before.
I’d rather spend a bit more for a brand new one than pay inflated price for a second hand one. Also the price you’re quoting- is that what they’re up for or is that what they sell for. The bubble is going to burst soon. I’ve 60k to spend on a van but I won’t buy till it all this nonsense stops.
@@TheMotorhomeMan so not actual prices that have been paid. I would never pay the asking price for anything and if I was not offered what I consider is a fair discount I would just walk away.
Enjoyed this. Sound investment. We’ve had Transporters for years ams converted our own and we’ve either made money or lost very little even pre covid. Nice when a passion or hobby cots very little. 🎉😊
I bought new in 2016, a Hymer Ayres Rock for £41k. They now ask £58k for the same van. Hoping mine hasn't gone down too much in price then. I certainly wouldn't by it again at £58k. A very interesting video, thanks for posting it up.
This is a sellers/owners post. Interesting if you want to buy. My 2011 Land Rover Discovery and 2018 Adria Alpina Missouri top of the range caravan came to £45,000.
You're right things HAVE changed. My 89 Citroën C25 sold 2 years ago for 2,500. Now I could buy it back for 3,500. Crazy. This year I've gone with a Transit minibus. Took a few days to convert but 4 passengers and two double beds is a winner.
Thanks for an excellent analysis. Invaluable info. We have a 96 Horizons Camaro similar to AS Symbol example. We spent 4k on a total professional bodywork overhaul. Now zero rust. Hope to get another younger van soon. Would love to hear your thoughts..
I love the new venture one just wished it came with the full bathroom The toilet is great but wish it came with the shower and that’s the sort of size I am looking for don’t want Anything too big so keep showing off the small ones please Needs to have hot water cold and heating to I love that Alter Trail V line 620 it needs to be small van because of my license I can’t drive a big van plus I never wanted to
Price is just one of the reasons I switched from motor-caravans to touring caravans. The last motor-caravan I bought was a long while back, but it cost me £11000 for a 10 year-old van that had originally been around £15000. I was the one who took the hit in value when the rust appeared! I decided then that there is just too much value tied up in an 'old' motor vehicle that is destined for mechanical faults or MOT failure! I've been towing for 17 years now. No regrets yet.
I would holdback if I was you. Prices at the present time are bonkers and if you buy now when things settle your purchase for drop value very fast. Wait my friend I was looking to buy let's say a considerable one but after watching this and seeing how the value of them has gone up since covid I am now going to wait for the market to drop out on them.
I bought a 59 plate Autosleeper Dorset ES in May 2012 with 3000 miles in “as new” condition for £25k. New it was £48k but the seller had only paid about £42k for it. I sold it a year later for £26.5k and was happy, I wish I’d have kept it, how times change!
Really useful video thanks! I was unsure if £25k was too much for a 2009 nu venture surf, seems it’s about right? Reassuring that they hold their value too. I won’t wait & see if prices fall in a year or 2 … think of all the weekends away I’ll be missing! Live for the day ❤️

Now I have a few quid, I'm finding it a nightmare to buy. I'm seeing vans falling to pieces with a piece of wood in the back called a "camper van" starting at £10,000. The quest continues.
Its a sellers market at the present time , but forget buying one until things settle down again . When you consider over £55k for a VW T6 they are very overpriced and the prices will dive in less than two years, my motto is WAIT.
Good vlog too Jason. Friend is getting a two year old swift edge 6 berth purely to rent out in Autumn. Any tips on renting out vans? Something you’d ever thought of?
those prices are fantastic if you were born a minute ago the phrase "a fool and her money are soon Parted" Also remember LEZ area's creeping in road tax getting very high on older diesels.
IF we went back to some sort of normality and people could get abroad without restrictions I wonder how many people who are new to motor/camper vans because of Covid will keep their vans or find that they are a liability due to the fact that they use them less want to return to foreign holidays. If dealers are inundated with vans with less buyers would there be a major price drop within the new and second hand market ?.
@@TheMotorhomeMan been on about getting a motorhome for while and said to the wife this is the year (as I new the government were going to play silly buggers) but I had the conversation with the father in law who just traded up his motorhome and lost nothing on it !!? So I'm not entering the motorhome market this year
I just got a Trafic lwb fitted out with the proper basics for 14k with 93k on it and FSH. I saw another with 230k on it at 18k! Mental. I use mine as a daily driver aswell.
Great video - confirmed what I thought about prices vs new. Was going to upgrade to a mhome 10 years old but may as well buy new. Nearly bought an new Itineo sb740 for £55k 18 months ago... still worth that if not more now.
I understand what you are saying and that the industry has to make a living, but these are second hand motors, some with quite a few miles on, thats not a good thing, as much as I really enjoy your videos, and will enjoy them in the future, I am amazed at these prices, and there are a lot of comments here echoing the same. What happens if we ever get back to normal?
I looked extensively over 2 years ago to getting something like an Autosleeper Symbol , i was struggling then to find the money for a good used example maybe around 2003 ish , i wanted the 2002 onwards 2.0 litre HDI engine much nicer than the old 1.9. Now it is a totally unrealistic dream , because of demand everything is overpriced for what it is , i've given up on the dream .....
I've got a 2016 rollerteam had it 2 & half years and a dealer has offered me 3 grand more than I paid for it just for the van and that's not as a trade in! But it's like everything in demand if I was to upgrade the new was has gone up by 10 grand! I'll stay with what I've got!
very informative video. However when you take inflation into account , the depreciation is actually bigger than the absolute number. eg if the van is 15 years old and cost say £30k new, then £30k 15 years ago was worth a lot more then. you need to apply inflation depreciation of the capital if you say average inflation is 2%over 15 years then the deprecation of the capital is 37% so the actual 'new price' ie what 35k is worth today. is 35x1.37=48k so the 'real' deprecation is say 48-22 =£26k if its worth £22k now
Incredible re sale value , I’d love the VW and take it to Europe as I’m single and I’ve just retired . I may sell my house and rent so I can afford to buy one . Beautiful. At these prices you may as well buy brand new .
My own tuppence worth is that if the government continue with fazing out diesel vehicles and promoting electric there will be less petrol stations around and those who do sell diesel will be in cities/ large towns to cater for commercial vehicles, also I think the price of diesel will be very high and “ road tax “ for diesel vehicles will be extortionate.
Don't forget that these second hand retail prices he is quoting are what a dealer would sell them for. They would offer you at least £6000 less than what is being quoted. If you tried to sell it yourself you would get about £4000 less then what he has quoted
I was thinking about buying a small campervan but this news has put that completely out the window as prices are too high for my modest account. Stick with my converted Ford Fiesta and camping gear which has not as such been used due to lockdowns in Scotland.
A 12 year old vehicle is classed as "end of life", I can't believe people are paying 30k for them at that age. Coachbuilts that age are going to be gently rotting away under the skin even if they have only got 30k miles on the clock.
@@peskyparttimers8239 I personally wouldn6buy a vehicle which is/was a mass produced model for not much less then original list price. The underpinnings will be deteriorating as will be hard to reach areas. I guess that's why there is a relative short warranty on mechanical and habitation. Replacement parts is a problem over 10 years after models are discontinued.
I won`t sell my old one, or buy new, from any dealers, as the last year, to 18 months dealers are really ripping off the public, since lockdown. Going to a motorhome/camper show, in September, when i put a little sticker in my window, and get inundated, with offers, everytime.
I buying around may 2022. Should be quite a few off loading them then. P.s even in todays market your prices are way higher than many i have seen on gumtree or suchlike

Its a sellers market at the present time , but forget buying one until things settle down again . When you consider over £55k for a VW T6 they are very overpriced and the prices will dive in less than two years, my motto is WAIT.
Nobody knows yet what will happen misha
Could do with some Motorhome comparisons now Jason?
It’s coming very soon 😀
That Danbury on the Ford chassis you said were bringing upto £38k yours had a price tag of £39999 lol
oooops
Good vlog too Jason. Friend is getting a two year old swift edge 6 berth purely to rent out in Autumn. Any tips on renting out vans? Something you’d ever thought of?
Make sure you get it checked by a Gas Safe engineer.
Make sure it’s well insured.
those prices are fantastic if you were born a minute ago the phrase "a fool and her money are soon Parted" Also remember LEZ area's creeping in road tax getting very high on older diesels.
6:49 even the cameraman is laughing haha
Forgot your lines did you? lol
oooopppppssss. 😂
Agree there. Some owners will develop the 'squeaky bum' feeling when looking to offload their vehicles.
Some where down the line there is always going to be a price correction.
Great comment Stephen 👍
👍
@@stephenbrown9400 yes I totally agree. I have changed my mind about buying one since seeing this .
@@TheMotorhomeMan been on about getting a motorhome for while and said to the wife this is the year (as I new the government were going to play silly buggers) but I had the conversation with the father in law who just traded up his motorhome and lost nothing on it !!? So I'm not entering the motorhome market this year
Very interesting , thank you.
You are welcome!
Thank's for watching Michael 👍
Excellent video can't wait to see the next one, 👍
Coming soon! Richard 👍
Very interesting Jason!
Thank's Andy 👍
I just got a Trafic lwb fitted out with the proper basics for 14k with 93k on it and FSH. I saw another with 230k on it at 18k! Mental. I use mine as a daily driver aswell.
Good on you
Like your programme, would appreciate some comments on their relative security features. How theft proveth are they
Good point William
Great video - confirmed what I thought about prices vs new. Was going to upgrade to a mhome 10 years old but may as well buy new.
Nearly bought an new Itineo sb740 for £55k 18 months ago... still worth that if not more now.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Awesome, thank you! Tim 😀
Useful info thanks
Glad it was helpful! Kevin 👍
Great vid that, and very informative on the pricing. Everything is bonkers at the moment. Hold your nerve ???
Absolutely Paulo 😀
I understand what you are saying and that the industry has to make a living, but these are second hand motors, some with quite a few miles on, thats not a good thing, as much as I really enjoy your videos, and will enjoy them in the future, I am amazed at these prices, and there are a lot of comments here echoing the same. What happens if we ever get back to normal?
I was shocked to Barry
I looked extensively over 2 years ago to getting something like an Autosleeper Symbol , i was struggling then to find the money
for a good used example maybe around 2003 ish , i wanted the 2002 onwards 2.0 litre HDI engine much nicer than the old 1.9.
Now it is a totally unrealistic dream , because of demand everything is overpriced for what it is , i've given up on the dream .....
Cracking video ...
Thank you for watching Man 👍
Hi, like you're chanel. Be good to know exactly this info, but for now (June 22). Did the craze die down?
Wow! 😱 that was indeed an eye opener and eye watering too! 😂
Yes it was! Sue 😀
Can you do one for motor homes
This is the first of three videos on prices 👍
@@TheMotorhomeMan looking forward to that
I've got a 2016 rollerteam had it 2 & half years and a dealer has offered me 3 grand more than I paid for it just for the van and that's not as a trade in! But it's like everything in demand if I was to upgrade the new was has gone up by 10 grand! I'll stay with what I've got!
For the time been Stephen
Its called dealer greed, inflating prices because of demand, disgraceful.
Lots of stagnant money
very informative video. However when you take inflation into account , the depreciation is actually bigger than the absolute number. eg if the van is 15 years old and cost say £30k new, then £30k 15 years ago was worth a lot more then. you need to apply inflation depreciation of the capital if you say average inflation is 2%over 15 years then the deprecation of the capital is 37% so the actual 'new price' ie what 35k is worth today. is 35x1.37=48k so the 'real' deprecation is say 48-22 =£26k if its worth £22k now
i can wish the United States had such compact but useful RV's available.
Incredible re sale value , I’d love the VW and take it to Europe as I’m single and I’ve just retired . I may sell my house and rent so I can afford to buy one . Beautiful. At these prices you may as well buy brand new .
Good choice! Norm 👍
Sell your house for a camper van, Are you for real.
Good shout there Duke
Just saw pics of the new vw caddy California Surely that’s got to be the smallest camper around !
Could be Jon
Don't forget that these second hand retail prices he is quoting are what a dealer would sell them for.
They would offer you at least £6000 less than what is being quoted.
If you tried to sell it yourself you would get about £4000 less then what he has quoted
I was thinking about buying a small campervan but this news has put that completely out the window as prices are too high for my modest account. Stick with my converted Ford Fiesta and camping gear which has not as such been used due to lockdowns in Scotland.
The scenery is still the same in what ever you drive 👍
Do you think the market prices for used motorhomes will ever return to normal? Great videos BTW!
I do not think so Mark
Very informative, do you see a crash in price once everything opens up again?
Not for at least a year and half Phillip 👍
I would wait for the great die off which will happen in autumn.Predicted for those who had the v.Prices will fall autumn 2022
Awww I would love to be able to afford one to take my children away weekends, wanted one for yrs just so expensive…no harm in window shopping😭😭🤣
Many cities will be fetching in clean air areas in the next few years will pre-2016 diesel van/motorhomes keep their value
i went to the motor home show ,and was shocked by the prices , thats why i'l build my own
Good on you Stan
Too expensive unless they come with cast iron warranties especially an ageing automatic box. Would hope for warranty for corrosion too.
A 12 year old vehicle is classed as "end of life", I can't believe people are paying 30k for them at that age. Coachbuilts that age are going to be gently rotting away under the skin even if they have only got 30k miles on the clock.
You find Motorhomes are very well looked after with regular service history Stephen.
Just depends on how well looked after they have been Pesky
@@peskyparttimers8239 I personally wouldn6buy a vehicle which is/was a mass produced model for not much less then original list price. The underpinnings will be deteriorating as will be hard to reach areas. I guess that's why there is a relative short warranty on mechanical and habitation. Replacement parts is a problem over 10 years after models are discontinued.
@@peskyparttimers8239 'A 12 year old vehicle is classed as "end of life"'? Spoken like a true know-nothing BSer.
Where is your company based we would like to have a look around like I said were looking to buy one!
I have a 2014 T5 High-line VW camper van with 26120 miles on the clock, how much would I get for it in 2021.
Just depends whats in it David
What about the fact that the same amount of money today as 10 years ago buys half as much, so you lost 100% in depreciation of your money....
Not if you sell it for the same price you sold it for
I won`t sell my old one, or buy new, from any dealers, as the last year, to 18 months dealers are really ripping off the public, since lockdown. Going to a motorhome/camper show, in September, when i put a little sticker in my window, and get inundated, with offers, everytime.
Ahh this is just sad. Dashed my dreams of owning one. I can't be paying prices like these. I thought there would be much cheaper options.
I buying around may 2022. Should be quite a few off loading them then. P.s even in todays market your prices are way higher than many i have seen on gumtree or suchlike
We took our prices from well known sites.
