This game had such great potential. The Revengeance demo was definitely fun but going back and looking at this it makes me wish that they would release what they had of this as just to give people a chance to play the game they were originally expecting.
To be clear, Kojima was developing this game, and metal gear solid: peace walker. There was trouble developing the game and Kojima wanted to help the development of Peace walker. So they out-sourced the game to Platinum, changed the name to Metal gear rising: Revengance, and changed the story from a MGS4 prequel to a sequel. They changed combat from the tactical stealth of MGS:R, to the gameplay we see now. Kojima still loved the game though, and pitched sequels with grey Fox to Konami. The game was going to be the debut of the FOX engine.
Still pissed we didn't get this version of the game. I remember watching this trailer back when it first released and losing my mind with excitement. The cutting physics blew my mind and I couldn't wait to play it. When I saw the final version of the game, to say I was disappointed was an understatement.
Be even more dissatisfied, knowing that Kojima's team just made this tech demo after years of working on it, because they couldn't figure out the game, they wanted to make.
This version looks like it could have been awesome but it was too close to its predecessors. Graphically I think it even looks better than the final version. I'm excited to see what the sequel will look like since Kojima says he wants platinum to do another. If its on the next gen systems, I can see it being amazing.
Graphic wise, MGS:R is better than MGR:R. As for animations, I like Revengeance much better. Look at how Raiden was running and slashing his blade in the gameplay at 1:42! It looked like he was running like a normal person instead and hit sorta lazily. He should be fast and quick. I think it was a good idea that Kojima let PG develop it. Another thing: look at those one-hit kills! That's fucking boring when you kill enemies as easily as that. So overall, I think MGR:R version is better than the one demonstrated in this trailer. I'm not a stealth player and I like to kill things with quick, fast moves! Simply: I like getting hyped in my games. (Even though a lot of times the game focuses on stealth.Boris says "Gah! They've found you!" Even though I meant to attack...)
Animation is still better then Revengeance. Revengeance animation looks sloppy like Ninja Gaiden. Btw if you played MGO you would know that Raiden can do 2 hit kills and 1 hit kills if you stab and he was still fun to play as.
To the comment above, tell me how that would be fun, just one hitting every enemy slow as fuck, tell me how it isn't funner to do combo attacks with his feet, how would they do boss battles with this type of system, I'd love to know.
swifti1001 combo's are soo much more fun , the game would go by way too quick, the game would take NO skill if it was one hit, game makers want you to have skill not just play through it and be a little bitch
griffin patrick Kojima productions is like the only company these days putting real effort into their games. Do you really think you would've been able to slide through the whole game by one shotting people? Don't get Kojima productions twisted with lazy developers like EA and Capcom.
swifti1001 Not really, that doesn't sound fun lol, sounds more like a beat em up rather than a character action game, I could enjoy that for 5 minutes maybe? ... eh maybe for 3? This trailer was funny at the end. but man if platinum didn't develop this game, there's no way I could play it LOL. The combat in the game was just way too slow for me lol
I doubt it. If they ever decide to make a sequel (or prequel in this case) to Revengeance, it won't be a revived version of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, but rather another Platinum developed title.
***** MGS: Rising and MGR: Revengeance are the same game, they just decided to change the name. They can't really revive a project that was already published in the first place.
remaster95 They aren't the same game though. Solid Rising uses the Fox Engine and was set between MGS2 and 4. Rising Revengeance uses an engine from Platinum Games I think and is set after MGS4.
Ah my bad, although I don't think its so much that Kojima abandoned MGS: Rising, more that MGS: Rising gradually turned into MGR: Revengeance over the course of its development.
Evan VDE Not so much swords, but the action aspect. They were designing it more like a MGS stealth game with puzzle elements involving blade mode (thus Raiden's slow running speed when cutting the pillars). However, the hack'n'slash action potential of slicing up enemies was too good to pass up, and they tried to mix it in with very little success. Platinum got the game out by completely removing the stealth and puzzle elements, while focusing completely on hack'n'slash combat, arguably their strong point.
Deroni76 because if you watch the available gameplay that's here, you can note visual differences in the graphics and design, as well as the gameplay. for instance, you can't cut down enemies like that in real time in the game. you can't cut them like that in blade-mode either, or the surrounding structures. ironically, Raiden's movements, and attacks are move varied in the final game, and he wears his sword on his back, not his waist. but the graphics aren't quite this sharp. I'm guessing these are pre-rendered graphics, to have something at the time to show in the trailer, not uncommon. the game makers did state later that their plan to make everything "cuttable" was not feasible.
Metal Gear Solid: Rising was running on the Fox Engine. Kojima didn't like how the game turned out, since his development team wasn't very experienced with Action-Games. The Story was originally set between MGS2 and MGS4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengence is running on the same Engine as Bayonetta i think and the Story is set a few years after MGS4. The Gameplay of MGS:Rising was focused on Stealth and Sword-Puzzles and not as much Hack n' Slash Action as MGR:Revengence was. The Gameplay and Fighting was WAY slower. so..Deroni76 tell me, how this is literally the same.
@@pestenkeranii False. This is a different game which was canceled. Revengeance was a restarted version of the game on a different engine by a different developer.
@Ferhat The Ripper this game is completely different from revengeance... how do you not see it? First off the game in this trailer was going to take place in between metal gear solid 2 & 4. We were going to learn how raiden ended up as a cyborg in MGS4 by this game. Platinum Games didn't want that story idea so instead revengeance takes place in 2018. 4 years after MGS4.
People who jumped into this series through Metal Gear Rising will never know the catharsis of going through what were the hardest bosses in the series like a hot knife through warm butter, only to experience the dread of one of the hardest boss in the entire series be a guy who played college ball and could've gone pro if he hadn't joined the Navy.
First time i saw this trailed i was so hyped, after playing the game i loved what platinum did with it but i still think this one looks way better, everything seems smooth and like you actually have "The blade in your hands" in revengeance it feels like you have a stun baton in your hands and after some brawling you actually get the blade... As i said i loved revengeance but i'd love to see a sequel like this or a prequel with grey fox
I just realized at 1:45 scene Raiden is dual wielding. If you remember the sheath from the Platinum games version, it has a small dagger on it that you never get to use. Play it back in quarter speed, you will see it.
To be perfectly honest, as cool this game could've been... it looked like it could've been a technical disaster. I'm much more happy with the Platinum version because we got what I think is one of the best action games of all time. Some awesome rock tunes, etc.
The sword is only dangerous much as the person who wields it. Raiden could do it because of his strength, speed, and knowledge. It doesn't mean any sharp sword and person combination could. Even then, a lightsaber would easily outmatch a sword in battle. Well, depending on the sword.
Sad that this version was cancelled. It could have had really cool stealth gameplay mechanics if done correctly (like a more stealthy Ninja Gaiden) and the story was a very important part to the metal gear lore, saving Sunny from the patriots. shame we never saw it. only mentions of it, Boris in the final game talks about it, he was gonna be in this game also. Maybe we could have had a Snake cameo to see how he turns from young snake to old snake.
I loved MGRR, and have no complaints about the game that came out. I do however wish that they wouldn't completely throw away this concept. They could use it in a game that shows how Raiden rescued sunny, or his training in the early years of being a cyborg perhaps.
Memes. The DNA of the soul. They shape our will. They are the culture -- they are everything we pass on. Expose someone to anger long enough, they will learn to hate.
Incredible how great Things never dies with time. Im here on 2022 watching again this amazing trailer. It is bad how platinum couldnt make this game worth... IF kojima were directly only this one, we could have an game Better than every platinum games did. Atleast we have this masterful piece in trailer.
It was already confirmed that Rising was originally going to be powered by Fox Engine. Kojima actually said that they rushed Fox Engine development so they could use it on Rising as soon as possible. Sadly, the lack of experience from the younger team behind Rising, the game suffered from delays and eventually they had to stop developing it because the team didn't know what they were going for with Rising But yes, what you are seeing in this video is running on the Fox Engine
Such wasted potential this game has. This could had been a great game for Raiden who has been broken since MGS2 to become the most bad-ass warrior the world and Solid Snake needs. This game was to represent Raiden's in-depth character growth and it would had been great wish they didn't give up on this and decide to Revengence
Personally I feel that if Kojima had handed it to Ubisoft, he could have really made it closer to his style of game design. More of an Assassins Creed feel than a Devil May Cry, hack and slash type of game. One where Raiden is turned into a cyborg and goes off to learn tracking skills and such as he explained in MGS4. Kept canon.
just no.... i'm so glad that ubisoft wasn't in on making this one... i cannot express how glad i am... PS: I love the game as it is now, and pretty sure i wasn't the only one who fell in love with it
TheFriiggi Though i want to add that i appreciate your opinion... and i'm not here to have any arguements or such... simply just answered with my own opinion
I honestly would've kept Kojima's story idea because the story of how Raiden became what he is in Metal Gear Solid 4 is pretty interesting to me. I also what have kept the title cause it makes sense and it confuses less people if the game is CANON or something. I personally think adding human soldiers to the mix gives it a dark feeling and that's pretty epic to see the blood splatter.
This game could have answered ALOT of questions...like how he got a cyborg body...how he rescue Sonny...how he met up with big moma......but mind you when this game was being developed. That earthquake and sunami happened...it hurts to watch this....OMG....THAT FOX ENGINE THO....When the second trailer came out I was like Wtf..what happened...
for all of you saying this was better yes it was its running on the fox engine mgrr is on bayonetta's engine wich is shit if there will be mgrr 2 its going to be on the fox engine wait for it people wait for it
This was supposed to be set between MGS2 and MGS4, it was gonna fill a few gaps. Like, when Raiden rescued Sunny from the patriots, for example. Revengeance 2 will never live up to what this could've been.
As much as I love metal gear rising I really resent how much more detailed the graphics and the general experience of the game seemed on those trailers. It looked like a more complex game a full metal gear adventure. Also what a boomer was that Konami didn't lend the fox engine when platinum took the the game over.
You guys do know that development for this game was so troublesome that they scrapped it? Platinum games is the only reason why the shell of this game exists
This is my absolutely favorite video on RUclips and I play it every morning for inspiration. It's my new Motto for life, in a metaphorical sense since I can't go around cutting people lol. Cut at will. Cut what you will. Rising!
To all of you writing the original concept made no sense - they could have added Geckos, cyborgs and whatnot in addition to human enemies (no insta-kill if facing them directly, you'd have to use stealth or cripple them before taking them them out for good). The regular humans could be balanced very well by giving them the ability to supress Raiden with automatic fire when in large numbers, forcing the player to take a different (stealth) approach. The insta-kill mechanic would work well by being high-risk but high-reward, Kojima dropped the ball by outsourcing this game, but it was most likely because Konami forced him to.
Playing Revengeance right now, and while I really like it, I much would have preferred this style. It's look so much more subtle and Metal Gear-esque. I like that it looks like you're actually fighting PMC troops and it makes it easier to connect to MGS4. With Revengeance, I constantly have to remind myself that this is still the Metal Gear universe and the same guy who can throw a Metal Gear Ray exists in the same realm as Big Boss.
Wow, looking at this again after beating Revengeance 3 times, and I have to be honest, we really missed out on the chance to play the above. It's stunning in comparison to what we have now.
Well in this demo... enemies are being killed realisticaly... was it because of show, or the gameplay was changed sou much since than? I mean now instead of halving solder as in this trailer. I shlas them until I weaken them and only than I can cut them up.... I find it slightly dissapointing, compared with this...
you mean that unlockable there? I didnt try that one out.... i has [-] for upgrading, I figured it is shitty relic for nostalgia players and armor (exosuit) aswell ... I will try it out in second play than =D The game kick ass anywyas =D Gonna have to play MG4 to fill up gaps before I get my hands on 5 ... This entirely different gameplay fits to Raiden character! I love it! No longer the shy youngster suspected from being women ey? =D
I just think that MGS: Rising uses a different engine in general from Revengeance. They damn well look the same, but in both physics and gameplay, they're completely different.
Being able to slice through every enemy you come across actually ended up being no fun as a game; the developers realized it was simply too easy. It also made blade mode somewhat useless in battle, since it was far faster to clear a battle by just running and slashing randomly. There were some other compensating gameplay elements involving cutting and using the environment they were working on, but that was scrapped when Platinum took over development and made it closer to a traditional hack'n'slash game, albeit incorporating the novel blade mode into battle by making it so clean cuts can only be made in blade mode.
I wish they would finish this game and make Metal Gear Rising 2 (a.k.a Metal Gear Solid Rising set in between 2 and 4 - raiden's origin story as a cyborg)
I know who it is, I'm a big fan of the group; it's a remixed version of "Empire" by "Hybrid" but I sadly can't find a version of it or even the name of what the remix is...
Using the FOX Engine on the Xbox 360 in 2010, looks so good even compared to some modern games, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 2 will hopefully use the FOX Engine, imagine how good it will look on modern PCs. XD

Thanks for the insight into that situation. Still disappointed though that this game didn't turn out like this.
This looks like how MGSV would play if it were a Rising game.
Exactly
Because its running on fox engine here
Still pissed we didn't get this version of the game.
Little did we know that this will spawn the gold mine of Metal Gear Memes and music
No, this game never came out. It was in a development hell because the project was too ambitious for its time.
What will you cut?
Konami: "Solid"
*Me remembering the Metal Gear RAY fight*
You're forgetting something there, buddy...
This version looks like it could have been awesome but it was too close to its predecessors. Graphically I think it even looks better than the final version. I'm excited to see what the sequel will look like since Kojima says he wants platinum to do another. If its on the next gen systems, I can see it being amazing.

@@leonardosa_a yup...

This comment didn't age well
Graphic wise, MGS:R is better than MGR:R.
To think this was a glimpse of FOXs capabilities. Kojipros tech team was amazing
I hope Kojima would come back to this project and somehow finish it. I really wanna know what happened to Raiden between 2 and 4...
I doubt it. If they ever decide to make a sequel (or prequel in this case) to Revengeance, it won't be a revived version of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, but rather another Platinum developed title.
***** MGS: Rising and MGR: Revengeance are the same game, they just decided to change the name. They can't really revive a project that was already published in the first place.
remaster95
They aren't the same game though.
The platinum version was good but... This looks way better

It's literally the same.
Nope, different gameplay, different story, different graphics...
...it's literally the same... protagonist, only that...
DavidMayCry How is the gameplay different? And how can you judge from a video which shows about a total of 5 seconds of gameplay footage?
I'm hyped as heck for this. Can't wait.
it’s metal gear rising: revengeance came out in 2013
@@pestenkeranii False. This is a different game which was canceled. Revengeance was a restarted version of the game on a different engine by a different developer.

@@pestenkeranii It’s considered a separate game. They even have different titles.
100% agreed.
The trailer still builds up hype to this day

If metal gear rising had these psychics and graphics it would be easily best game of xbox360/ps3 generation

I just realized at 1:45 scene Raiden is dual wielding. If you remember the sheath from the Platinum games version, it has a small dagger on it that you never get to use. Play it back in quarter speed, you will see it.

1:45 I really like the way the sword dances in the air with its beautiful sounds, I bet a sharp sword like could cut even a lightsaber...
This is the closet we will get to Original Rising and running on the fox engine . Still enjoy Platinum take on the series
Metal Gear "Solid" Rising should be under development for next-gen.
I loved MGRR, and have no complaints about the game that came out. I do however wish that they wouldn't completely throw away this concept. They could use it in a game that shows how Raiden rescued sunny, or his training in the early years of being a cyborg perhaps.
1:33 you can hear the sound effects say "Metal Gear" just before the voice says "Metal Gear Solid...Rising."

It was already confirmed that Rising was originally going to be powered by Fox Engine.
Kojima actually said that they rushed Fox Engine development so they could use it on Rising as soon as possible.
Sadly, the lack of experience from the younger team behind Rising, the game suffered from delays and eventually they had to stop developing it because the team didn't know what they were going for with Rising

WINZ0W Indeed, I like Revengeance, but would've preferred this tho.
Still wondering why this game wasn't relevant at it's time, is amazing dude
They were too busy sneering at the "Revengeance" title
Personally I feel that if Kojima had handed it to Ubisoft, he could have really made it closer to his style of game design. More of an Assassins Creed feel than a Devil May Cry, hack and slash type of game. One where Raiden is turned into a cyborg and goes off to learn tracking skills and such as he explained in MGS4. Kept canon.

This was supposed to be set between MGS2 and MGS4, it was gonna fill a few gaps. Like, when Raiden rescued Sunny from the patriots, for example.
Revengeance 2 will never live up to what this could've been.

They simply make a prequel to MGR using the plot of MGS:R.

As much as I love metal gear rising I really resent how much more detailed the graphics and the general experience of the game seemed on those trailers. It looked like a more complex game a full metal gear adventure. Also what a boomer was that Konami didn't lend the fox engine when platinum took the the game over.
Fox engine probably was complete after development started by platinum. Otherwise I don't see why they wouldn't share it
Nah the fox engine wouldn't of worked well for a game like MGR:R, let alone on PS3/360 hardware

Yup you're right they were already working in mgs 5 at this point
Playing Revengeance right now, and while I really like it, I much would have preferred this style. It's look so much more subtle and Metal Gear-esque. I like that it looks like you're actually fighting PMC troops and it makes it easier to connect to MGS4. With Revengeance, I constantly have to remind myself that this is still the Metal Gear universe and the same guy who can throw a Metal Gear Ray exists in the same realm as Big Boss.

Офигеть! 12 лет прошло, а я только сейчас увидел этот, довольно симпатичный, трейлер игры))) Не понимаю, как пропустил.
Well in this demo... enemies are being killed realisticaly... was it because of show, or the gameplay was changed sou much since than? I mean now instead of halving solder as in this trailer. I shlas them until I weaken them and only than I can cut them up.... I find it slightly dissapointing, compared with this...
In MGR:R you can get Grey Fox's sword and it's technically always in Blade Mode as it will cut an enemy in half instantly like in the trailer.
you mean that unlockable there?
SonicParadox17 it was the same FOX Engine used in Metal Gear Solid V GZ - TPP
I wish they would finish this game and make Metal Gear Rising 2 (a.k.a Metal Gear Solid Rising set in between 2 and 4 - raiden's origin story as a cyborg)
1:50 what's the soundtrack name? Please! :C
XD
They probably had to change the enemies to cyborgs so that the game's age rating is lower (The final game's age rating is still 18+ though)
