Omega Alive was the 2021 virtual concert, recorded over 5 days and streamed online at one time. Recorded when they couldn't tour due to Covid restrictions.
Coen Janssen's portable keyboard is a commercially available REVO-1 Curveboard made by a company called Nu-Motion in Montreal, Canada. He has taken it crowd surfing , including at the 20th anniversary concert last year in The Netherlands.
The song is from the most recent 8th album, Omega. Here at Omega Alive, Part I and Part 3 were played back to back, 27 minutes of awesome. Another from that record, and one of my favorites, also played here , is The Skelton Key.
I seen them only once opening for metallica. Great live band. Probably my next concert.
Epica goes all out every time !!!!!
There are 3 Kingdom of Heaven songs so far, loosely coupled by their common title. They were published on different albums and each carry an additional title.
The first one is called “Kingdom of Heaven - (A New Age Dawns V)” was released in 2009 on the album “Design your Universe”. Mark had the idea for this song for many years but thought he would not be able to do it with Epica. Isaac joining the band in 2009 gave it a new impulse and so the song finally came to live.
The first part of Kingdom of Heaven is divided in 5 parts named
I. Hold In Derision
II. Children Of The Light
III. Bardo Thödol
IV. Paragons Of Perfection
V. The Harsh Return
There is a very well-done official lyric video of this song. It was published as part of the release of (remastered) 10th anniversary edition of the “Design your Universe” album in 2019.
The second one is called “The Quantum Enigma - Kingdom of Heaven part 2”. It is the title song of the album “The Quantum Enigma” released in 2014. While being as long as the other 2, it is quite different in that it is not a multi part song. Instead, it relies more heavily on orchestra and choir. It seems that this song has only been performed live once.
The third song, the one you have reacted to is officially called “The Antediluvian Universe (Kingdom of Heaven - Part III)”. It is similar in structure as part 1 and has 6 parts:
I. Ātman
II. Sri Yantra
III. Halls of Amenti
IV. Duality
V. The Chikhai Bardo - Navigating the Afterlife Realms
VI. The Flower of Life - The Cosmic Spiral
KOH part 3 is generally played on their current concerts where they have a big enough time slot (like 90 minutes). On shorter concerts like festivals, they generally don’t play it because of lack of time.

This was the moment they became the Masters of symphonic metal. Totally mind blowing concert from start to finish. Kingdom of Heaven part 1 is just as amazing with so many twists and turns 🤘

Well, I understand that everyone have their own favorite song from any band. This one personally for me is their best song for this moment. Of course, they have a lot, and the new stuff too. But this... this is like Magnum Opus for Epica, top of the top

Hey man. Thanks for that reaction, I enjoyed a lot :) This performance and song is an absolute masterpiece, one of the best symphonic metal pieces of all time. Part 1 is another banger. You can check the performance of Omega Alive, that for me is the best option (other options: live version in Mexico -not great sound- or official lyric video -great sound but is not live-). Part 2 is a great song as well but they don’t usually play it live therefore you need to go with studio version.

You can choose either the "Official video" which is probably the only Epica music video that is fully CGI, or "Omega Alive" version, the same concert as KoH 3 that you just reacted to. I haven't seen anyone reacting to this song for a while.
Always entertaining to see your reactions as you make your way through this journey of music we've never heard of in the U.S.. Epica was the third band I discovered on my Euro journey. As much as I like Nightwish, Epica's harder driving sound is incredible! So many bands, so many sounds, and so many groups we in American are never exposed to ... we get stuck with Taylor Swift. Epica's lyrics are also incredible ... very deep!

@@kooppool4862 The only song where a rapper is involved that i really like, but in the end its symphonic metal and not some stupid rap music, meaning the song has a melody and structures and its not just a guy talking over a beatbox and calls that music. In the end the role of XZibit is more like guy doing harsh vocals in other metal bands. That said, i'm in general also not a big fan of harsh vocals, because mostly there is also not much melody in them, but there are ok as special effect in small doses.
Epica has stayed very solidly in my Top 3 since I discovered them around them around 2008. And I consider myself someone who enjoys discovering new music and exploring different genres. For example, right now I listen to a lot of K-pop and last year I was listening to a lot of EDM. For whatever reason, Epica just has the perfect blend of things I love the most in music and always find myself going back to them and loving them all over again. Thank you for the reaction!!

Kingdom of Heaven is a little bit like Nightwishes Greatest Show on Earth. Not immidiately approachable for everybody and at a length which exceeds TikToks generation attaention span by like 3-5x xD
But if you go with the flow, it's one of the greatest things that musically will ever happen to you.

I watched Omega Alive when it was streamed originally a couple of summers ago - 2021 at the height of the pandemic. Best money I spent ever for a ticket, except maybe for the live Nightwish shows. The whole show was 2 hours of just awesomeness. If you find a recording of it it's worth watching in its entirety and it will be time well spent. Same with the Epica 20th anniversary show from last year.
As if Isaac's 7 string Les Paul isn't enough (a Gibson LP in EuroMetal??), his deep-growl-additions to Marc;s in the mid-section.
.....uh, dude, yer jaw... it's hanging open... Yes, he was also trained in classical guitar.... that's where some of those riffs are coming from, and the incredible precision.
Flaming Pianos, 'bent' synths, double-instrument leads.
It's like Amadeus had a had a baby with Dante, and they raised it to write 12 minute nuggets of dark beauty.
I consider myself to be so lucky to have lived long enough to have heard about this band, to have seen their vids.
I hope to one day make good on the tickets I bought to last year's tour, but couldn't break free from work commitments.

Ya know, my older sisters influenced me via an introduction to Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, It's a Beautiful Day and Cat Stevens.
My mother was a fan of Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Handel, Bach and Chopin.
It's no wonder that when I sat down to write music in the 70's on my old Harmony Sovereign, I couldn't capture the riffs and divergent tangents that were flying around in my head.** I just didn't think it could be done.
But
These folks have done that.
They've captured the elements of storytelling, grand orchestrations melodies and ornamentation that entice the ear.
And , they wrapped the whole thing up in Metal and have offered it up to those willing to listen.

"this is unreal" - I also thought when I first watched this show. However, you just watched the cherry on the cake of this concert, and now “you have seen everything” and you don’t have to watch the whole show 😆 of course I’m joking. A lot of bands have been streaming live shows online during the pandemic, but Epica decided to do something special. After all, they celebrated their 1000th anniversary concert in 2018-2019, so filming the most ordinary concert on an ordinary stage? No. They decided to jump above their heads and filmed a real show. I have never seen a stream like this.
And now about the song. Of course, it is difficult to appreciate a fairly long and complex song, because it has a lot of tempo changes, transitions, yet it's not 3 minutes with a simple melody, but it's an unambiguous symphonic progressive metal masterpiece. And the first part of "kingdom of heaven" is not much inferior to the third. Man, this band has come to its perfection. I'm even afraid to listen to their new release, because every time I think that nothing can be better, but they do even better. The day before yesterday they released another live from the AFAS 2023 concert for the song "beyond the matrix" and this is another great show and performance, I'm starting to be afraid of them, I'm serious.

Well, Simone calls us Epicans, but there are not as many fans as for Nightwish. NW is more suitable for mainstream audience who can't handle heavier music, so it makes sense NW have around 3x larger fanbase, partially also after Floor was in Beste Zangers.

The different parts of Kingdom of heaven have been released in different albums so they are like separated songs, they only share similar lenght and lyrical content. Kingdom of heaven part 1 is also worth checking out. The entire Restrospect show as well as the Omega Alive show are amazing so you can't go wrong there. Just pick one and will be Epic! Epica always leaves me torn, most of it i like very much, some i love, a bit i really don't like as much. I'm sure there's an Epica song out there for me, I've just not seen enough yet. However this performance was superb. The burning piano had me feeling so sorry for the piano. NO DON'T DESTROY IT!! I was feeling a bit paniced there to tell the truth. Pianos have a reserved place in my heart for personal reasons.
This was a lot.. idk tamed down (or spread out?) from other Epica I've seen, so even parts i don't like that they do, I got thru as the gravitas of the song carried me. Great visuals, great symphonic, greath harmonies, epic scale and tone. Well done epica, this might be the 1st Epica video i rewatch. Txs for bring this Cosmic ❤ and ✌️all.

@Kyle_Butler Mostly from other reactors, so the normal biggies.. consign, sancta, unleashed I think. Might have been one or two more, I don't remember the names exactly. I've only listened once to them. They came as an extension to NW, and I've tried to listen. They haven't clicked yet. There's only one other symphonic that has and that's Edenbridge, my second love lol
It's not that I don't like Epica. They just haven't pushed the right buttons for me.
