@@thesimplepeachify a good mix of cactus mix, potting mix and perlite. Made sure it was pretty chunky and they're been going great so far :) I waited 4 days to water them.
Hi Lyn! I’ve received a booby cactus cutting for my birthday. It’s winter where I am at and since this cactus looks like it still needs to develop some roots, I’ve read that dry soil and warmth help with that. I have a little plant heat mat wrapped around the plastic pot it’s in and it’s in indirect bright light. What do you think? Thank you, lovely!
Hi there :-D thats wonderful news you have been given a Booby Cactus for your birthday, yes dry soil and warmth will help your cutting to send out roots, and a plant heat mat and indirect bright light is PERFECT for rooting your cutting, keep the soil dry until mid March, your cactus will still send out roots in dry soil, good luck with your cutting and thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful weekend XXXX

I've noticed mine feels quite soft, not firm. Is that normal? Thanks in advance for any advice. I should say it's 20cm, potted in pon (gravel), been left dry over winter and it's just watered been watered 2 or 3 times since Spring so I very much doubt it's been overwatered. I'm wondering if it's not enough water or if it's just normal.
Hi Sue :-D yes if there are no signs of dark colourations on the stem then its normal for these cacti to feel soft until they fully plump them selves back up again with their water reserves, but if you notice that your Cactus is still feeling soft after a couple of more watering it may be best to remove the cactus from its pot to check that there are no signs of hidden root mealy bugs or any problems with the soil and roots, Good luck with your Cactus and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and have a wonderful plant powered Tuesday XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon It's firm again after that one watering. Just thought I'd let you know. Also for others that might see this. I saw advice from multiple sources on reddit, to cut the plant to propagate it (just to be safe). So glad I continued searching and found your video/comment. Thanks again. 🥰
My cactus got sunburned at the top and one of the small boobies went completely squishy and brown/dead looking so I peeled it off. When I peeled it off, there was some white stuff left behind, is it just the dried juice do you think? And for watering, should I just mist the top or do a full soak? I literally just got this cactus and am so worried I’m killing it
I have a question. What are those spots at the bottom? I see those on almost all of this type of cactus. I have looked it up but can't really find out anything about it.
Hi Gloria :-D the spots are a type of corkiness that these cacti produce as they age or get knocked or damaged, they often produce these spots in high humidity too, they are harmless but Scale insects can look very similar in appearance and can be damaging, but they always have a darker spot in the middle of the spots but can be scraped off or melted off when dabbed with alcohol, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

I just got one as one of my first cacti plant :) and assume its care requirements would be similar to this one.
So happy you love the care video and this wacky cactus :-D yes this Booby cactus grows fast and can grow over a foot tall in a season depending on the climate and the size of the pot, I dont have a Lophocereus schotti Totem yet but its one that is on my wish list
So sorry to hear that, but thats great news you have bought another one, good luck with this wonderful cactus and Thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comment and have a fantastic day XXXX
Hi Enrique :-D the spots are little scars that these cacti seem to be prone to getting, these little spots usually occur due to changes in their environment and as the cactus matures and are harmless, but do keep an eye out that they are not scale insect as it can look very similar, scale insect will scrape off with a fingernail but these corky spots won't, Scales can be treated with using rubbing isopropyl alcohol and a q tip to remove them, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful Tuesday today XXXX

WOW with the height, if you can wait until spring then you can chop off the top to a shorter height, the cactus will side shoot new growth from the base or the sides, you can also propagate the part you cut and pot up as a cutting, let the cutting dry over at the base ( calllus ) for about a month first before planting into a cactus soil and then treat as a cutting, keep the cutting soil mostly dry until it has formed roots, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

Hi Mark, the lower part of the cactus should not feel soft if you lightly squeeze it, but sometimes this cactus can go slightly spongy to touch if its dehydrated and in need of water, they will firm back up again a few days after being watered, if the lower part of your cactus is very soft and brown looking its best to remove from its pot to check that there is no base rot to be on the safe side, thanks so much for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX

So sorry to hear that, but thats great news you have bought another one, good luck with this wonderful cactus and Thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comment and have a fantastic day XXXX
What are those spots, mine has them too.
Hi Enrique :-D the spots are little scars that these cacti seem to be prone to getting, these little spots usually occur due to changes in their environment and as the cactus matures and are harmless, but do keep an eye out that they are not scale insect as it can look very similar, scale insect will scrape off with a fingernail but these corky spots won't, Scales can be treated with using rubbing isopropyl alcohol and a q tip to remove them, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful Tuesday today XXXX

mine has grown way too tall! its at 30in now 😅 what can I do about it?
WOW with the height, if you can wait until spring then you can chop off the top to a shorter height, the cactus will side shoot new growth from the base or the sides, you can also propagate the part you cut and pot up as a cutting, let the cutting dry over at the base ( calllus ) for about a month first before planting into a cactus soil and then treat as a cutting, keep the cutting soil mostly dry until it has formed roots, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

is natural to have softer lower part of mu booby cacti
Hi Mark, the lower part of the cactus should not feel soft if you lightly squeeze it, but sometimes this cactus can go slightly spongy to touch if its dehydrated and in need of water, they will firm back up again a few days after being watered, if the lower part of your cactus is very soft and brown looking its best to remove from its pot to check that there is no base rot to be on the safe side, thanks so much for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX
