2:00 The full quote Sapolsky is bastardizing:
“Love and aggressiveness are interconnected and love depends on aggressiveness. In principle, a bond is formed as a consequence of the existence of something in common, something that must be defended against those from outside. In all these cases, aggression is necessary to consolidate the bond.
All cases of true love contain a large part of latent aggressiveness that this bond can only hide and, at the moment such a bond is broken, hate may be generated. There is not love without aggression, but also there is not hate without love.”
    ― Konrad Lorenz

Relavent quotes from Konrad Lorenz expanded in the same context:
“The personal bond, the individual friendship, can only be found in animals in which intraspecific aggressiveness is quite developed. The bond is even stronger in the most aggressive species. A few fishes are more aggressive than the cichlids, a few birds are more aggressive than geese and the mammal famous for its aggressiveness, the wolf, is the best and most loyal of friends. In animals which are alternatively territorial and aggressive or non-aggressive and social, depending on the reproductive season, a personal bond is restricted to the periods of aggressiveness.”
“Intraspecific aggression is much older (millions of years) than personal friendship and love. There is intraspecific aggression without its opposite, love. But, on the contrary, there is not love without aggression. Hate, however, is a behavioral mechanism quite different from aggression. Hate, the younger brother of love, is always directed against an individual, exactly as love. So, it is not possible to hate without the previous existence of love and when, despite all negations, love is still present.”

    So... Boredom causes aggression?
Any chicken in farmer could have told us that.

It's "Obsolete Theories" in general, if reducing the contents of the analysis to first principles, and that would be the ubiquitous prime/point logic of QM-Time singularity in Quantum Fields Modulation Mechanism, because the general context of the Universe has this sub context of the observable universe, perceived Anthropically from our apparently partiality randomised points of view. Actually we're strictly limited as the Professor said, controlled by the basic Phys-Chem and evolved bio-logical integration, (of Schrodinger's Cat fame), the superimposed, metastable states of compound resonance.
So because the biology is evolved as an heirachical organism, the emulation of environmental contexts in our brains is as a result of semi-random selection processes and methodology, nature and nurture, the more we consider our options by graduated appropriate responses to situations, the more successful and suitable will be our adaptive behaviours. Ie, the strategy of practiced mental balance internally and then externally in keeping with the knowledge provided by Prof Sapolsky's lectures, is within everyone's reach and capabilities.

Have you ever thought of writing with greater simplicity, David Wilkie? A part of the genius of Robert Sapolsky is that he speaks clearly so that almost anyone could understand him. You sound as if you intend only physicists to follow you. Think "Carl Sagan."

@@coreycox2345 I'm a senior physics major and I can assure you that this is blithering nonsense.

coreycox2345 It’s not that he doesn’t write with simplicity, it’s that his writing is disjunct and rambling. It’s a slew of consciousness typed out. I believe that the intention for valuable commentary is present, but there is some language barrier inhibiting the proper expression of their ideas lol.

Either a comedian or extreme hubris. Nothing to understand here.
