    G16 is departing from gaming laptop to creative laptop. They really shouldn't have focused so much on thickness if the device . Having a thicker chassis to ship with upgradable ram , better thermals so that GPU can run at a more sensible 140-150W while being cooler and quieter would have been better , especially considering this thing costs more than 2000 Euros .
    You wouldn't want your gaming laptop performing only at 70% potential when you pay the full price premium.

    • @amitkulkarni3922
      @amitkulkarni3922 7 месяцев назад

      The ASUS Strix lineup is thicker and meant more for getting the best performance but it's a lot heavier than the Zephyrus. People who are buying the Zephyrus lineup are more likely to use it for the portability for school or work purposes so it makes sense to keep it thin and light. But I don't like how the RAM is soldered and the huge price increase compared to last year's version.

    • @keerthan7558
      @keerthan7558 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@amitkulkarni3922 ofc ik that , they could keep the same thickness as g15 and the laptop would still be pretty thin while not making the existing compromises

    Changes that would make this laptop the best windows laptop on the market are:
    1.DDR5 CAMM2 / LPDDR5 CAMM2 modules for upgradability.
    2. A sturdier hinge for less screen wobble.
    3. Quieter fans that could push more air.
    4. A brighter oled display prefferably sourced by Japan Display using their new eLEAP oled production method.
    5. A haptic feedback trackpad.
    6. A brighter RGB keyboard with per key lighting and more even lighting for better secondary function visibility.
    7. Removal of the light bar on the lid or an even more subtle approach.

    I cannot for the life of me understand how noone seems to test Battery LIfe WHILE Gaming. What do I care how many hours of "web browsing" or "watching content" I can do on a GAMING laptop??? Otherwise, why even call this a "gaming laptop"? If it always has to be hooked up to power, then it's nothing more than a sub-optimal desktop. And if it's not supposed to be used for gaming WHILE on battery, just get rid of the "laptop" moniker altogether and call it what it really is: a MOVABLE desktop. And hook up a desktop monitor while you're at it...

      You should be comfortable, you're in a climate controlled room, eh? But your computer is also quite comfortable in 70C range. I've seen some data that this may even be optimal for it. The materials in our computers are not human beings and do not "feel hot" at those temps or anything, it's fine. I think you just have to make sure it's not going far above 80C. I think you know this, I just wanted to add some context. Some people get nervous and think it's somehow better when their computer returns to 35C or something. It isn't. The perfect environment for a cpu would probably be keeping it 50C-70C all the time, but the technology required to do that would be expensive and a waste of energy, so we let them return to room temperature.

    It really shouldn't need to be said out loud at this point, but if a manufacturer is going to solder their RAM onto a gaming laptop then 32gb really needs to be the minimum to ensure any degree of future-proofing for the machine. 16gb is no longer sufficient for productivity or gaming. Way too many of these premium models are permanently sticking people with 16gb of RAM and that's just unacceptable in 2024.

    Ordered two G16 4090 : Got a refund for both...
    Why two you'll ask ? Well... first one the touchpad was making an horrible sound even with a light tapping just to move the cursor... so I got a refund for this one and ordered another unit.
    The second one the touchpad behavied better and I decided to test some games :
    - Baldur's gate 3 : huge framerate drop compared to my previous M16 2023 (4090) with the same resolution and the highest settings : never going above 50 fps in Act 3
    - Overwatch 2 : perfomed well around 150fps average
    - PUBG : huge framerate drop in big towns (40fps) although I wasn't playing with the highest settings... never seen this with other 4090 gaming laptops...
    Pros :
    - Incredible design, premium feel
    - Light
    - Speakers are the best I've ever heard on a laptop
    - Oled screen
    Cons :
    - Perfomance... going under 140w TGP with the 4090 hit really hard...
    - Asus QC is still the same in 2024..it's russian roulette
    - I suffered from a 3 hours headache due to Oled after using it on battery... apparently on battery a feature to avoid this is disabled... got a warning from Armoury Crate.
    - Soldered ram even though it's faster lpddrx ram
    - Cpu temps aren't that good for this new CPU..
    I don't know if my performance problems were related to the 115w TGP while I was playing I've used manual mode to set it to 105w + 20w boost and the GPU wasn't reaching higher than 80/90w... or if it's due to the new Core Ultra 9 185, mine was reaching 90c temps in PUBG and 95c+ in BG3... classical laptop temps but I thought this new CPU was supposed to generate less heat.
    At that price tag (4700+ €) it's a big no for me, and it's a shame because this was the perfect laptop but It's more optimized toward a creator usage rather than a gaming laptop.
    I'm ordering the new Razer Blade 16 with the 4090 and Oled... will see :)

    Apparently the only way to get more ram is spending a lot more money for a gpu that I don't need and that drains my battery faster... Really unwise move to not provide the user with more choice, lost my purchase and probably many others that will go with the yoga

    You can't complain too much about the performance. It's even thinner than the zenbook laptops. The zenbook pro 14 had horrible speakers, muddy touchscreen oled, rather heavy for it's size, middling battery, and only a 14.5" screen. There was no 16" version other than the unobtainable 16x with it's own issues. The pro 14 also had terrible power profiles. Only the loud turbo could achieve 90w+. The performance mode literally dropped to 40w and there is no way to customize it. This year's G16 is basically the answer to anyone who bought a zenbook wishing it had better gaming chops and was more gaming focused. Competitors like the aero 16, book3 ultra, xps 15, etc. have huge compromises. The xps literally only has a 40w tgp and only usb-c ports, for example. The aero 16 has a slow 4k screen, is extremely loud, and has awful speakers. The book3 ultra is buggy as hell and also power starved and has a sky high price. People complaining about these new G series laptops need to stop associating it with last year's G series. Even the G16 from last year didn't even exist. It was called the M16. All these laptops still exist and are still being sold. You can't bitch about lower performance since it's not even the same chassis and it is an off year for cpus and gpus with nothing but minor refreshes or zero new products so Asus doesn't have an incentive to update existing models. They instead created a new lineup and repurposed old names. If you couldn't tell by now, Asus is terrible at naming their laptops. Strix G18? That thing is over 30mm thick. Strix (Scar)? Wtf is that? The new G series is gaming focused creator laptops. It's that simple. If you don't like it, go buy last year's model. They didn't "betray" you. It was never meant as a replacement.

    • @NotebookcheckReviews
      @NotebookcheckReviews  7 месяцев назад

      Agreed 100%
      I think Asus should have named these differently to make it clear that the new Zephyrus Line-Up is its own thing, which they have never done before.
      And for what it is, they nailed it for the most part.
      As you said, it competes much more with the XPS notebooks or similar mainstream performance machines than traditional "gaming" notebooks.

    I bought it. Used it for four days then returned it. Poor ergonomics, noisy, erratic performance, loaded with system killing bloatware like armor crate. In short, technical rubbish.

      @@steffdia7080 oh thanks got to compare that to last year's M16 2023 4090 model and find out which one I should invest my money on because for the same pricing locally in Australia I can get the M16 imported from newegg with 96GB of ram... So, it is a toss up between more performance or thinner lighter and better QoL upgrades like screen speaker etc...
