    Amazing, glad this video exists. Deaf people are constantly thrown under the bus without themselves knowing why. Share this with everyone you know.

    I'm glad that Ideafnews share this film. I'm Deaf person, It is an outrage to see how Deaf people's rights are violated in prison and legal system. Took 42 days to call their loved ones. That's crazy!

    @7:00 ish in -there is a short tedtalk about this *auditory processing disorder * . My partner called me upset 2 days, because the regular CO's are back from holiday -he got reprieve from the bully staff. When the holiday folks came, he just put a sign on his door that said "deaf" AND IT WAS A NON-ISSUE & only took minor competence!!!!
    The reg CO's are back, yelled at him about the sign, & then somehow get to tell him "your not deaf".... slightly true. he has been hard of hearing since birth! and is supposed to have hearing aids.... Now the CO's & medication nurse are just out right hassling him. -Annnnnnd thanks to that his psych aren't being taking appropriately. 😤😭🤬!!!! TBH most prisoner advocates/groups/probono etc; i've come across since March of last year, won't help out RSO's, and they remain subhuman even in these contexts.... i'm just so flipping frustrated & upset for him

    Live captioning can make a huge difference too - not hard to arrange. CCACaptioning.org has info, also its service called CaptionMatch. Thanks for your work on this for so many.

    Hello. I'm so glad to find this video again. I'm from southamerica and this is still an issue in my country. I wish this had spanish subtitles or captions. Is there any way to add them?? I can offer to translate. This would be very helpfull to the deaf community here and for hearing people in spanish speaking communities. Thank you very much

    I read on your published. I has been prison in Angola, Louisiana that how I met one deaf inmate.. His name is William Johnanson at Rayburn correctional center in Angie, La. He got life sentence since some where 1977 and he still there. He was first appear at the court house on about 1977 without interpreter because since the ADA Law was not there. Current at Rayburn Correctional Center got all deaf inmate transfer to this place ( Rayburn Correctional Center) about 6 years ago. He telling me story about while he in prison. I felt alike he been in locker for long long time. also he told me other deaf inmate hang up dead himself. I told him because that prison fail to get interpreter and fail to get special counselor for the deaf behavior. That sad story I ever hearXXXX SEE. I pray for that..

    I am a Deaf Lawyer in Utah who has represented Deaf people in the judicial system, I know the challenges the Deaf community faces. Thankfully, Utah is pretty good in providing ASL interpreters when it is need in the justice system. Unfortunately, not all states are proactive as Utah is and we have a long way to go in improving how Deaf people get access to justice in our judicial and penal system.

    One in five everyplace, on average, globally, has a hearing loss or deafness. In prison the numbers may be higher. A small proportion of these folks use SL (sign language) - though in prison, the ones who depend on SL must have access to it, no question!

    Hey some people make mistakes, nobody is perfect. U forget they all have a right to a fair trial and just because they committed a crime, doesn't make it right for them to get raped and beaten especially when these correctional officers are there.

    • @HauptmannDeaf
      @HauptmannDeaf 10 лет назад

      Of course, I agree with you. How sad it is. No, I did not forget about they all have a right for it. Just unfortunately that they don't help deaf people. Deaf people better not do the crime or correctional officers will give them hard time.
      I know that they are wrong. I hope the officers will improve.

    • @ridor9th
      @ridor9th 10 лет назад +3

      iHalveien In this case, Felix's brother admitted that Felix has nothing to do with the murder. It was he. Either way, if a deaf person was found guilty of a crime, one must serve the time like hearing people but the bottom line is: If you have the access to basic needs in the prison, why don't they do the same for deaf people? If you can walk and pick up the pay phone on your own during the recess, why can't Deaf people do that? They are not allowed to do so. I know it to be true because I was there.

    I am currently getting my degree in american sign language.... With that being said..what makes people think that because you are deaf u deserve a pass or have any handicap for that matter...If you are functioning well enough to commit the crime u well enough to go to jail...

    Can you wear your hearing aids in prison?

    • @BEHEARDDC
      @BEHEARDDC  7 лет назад +3

      Sadly many prisons ban use of hearing aids putting many deaf people's safety and lives in jeopardy. It is against the law to ban hearing aids but prisons keep violating the law.

    • @davidjonssondeaf
      @davidjonssondeaf 10 лет назад +19

      if you watched the video, you would learn that alot of Deaf end up in prison not because they were bad, but because they didnt have interpreters during interrogation or court proceedings. and then once in prison, they dont have interpreters for classes they need in order to be considered for parole. Also, normal hearing people have a right to make phone call everyday, but Deaf have to apply for special TTY and therefore do not get equal treatment.

    • @HauptmannDeaf
      @HauptmannDeaf 10 лет назад

      david jonsson I agree with you, that is why I said don't do the crime or they will get hell in Jail.

      Hauptmann Not all of them did the crime, is the point.... but if you are poor or have the inability to communicate, you cannot defend yourself adequately sometimes. That's the "justice system" for ya!

    • @HauptmannDeaf
      @HauptmannDeaf 10 лет назад

      Joey Haynes True. But still stay away from them if they knew anything what they are doing. For example, when you join in a friend's car, you smell beer or pot in a car, get out or you will get involve with law enforcement for nothing. See, that is my point. Don't be stupid get involved who does bad

    • @Misunao23
      @Misunao23 10 лет назад +2

      Hauptmann Another thing you have to realize and I'm not speaking for ALL Deaf or hard of hearing people, but due to their lack of communication, some of their upbringing is not all that good. Basic things like do not steal, do crime, etc may not be all that common sense to them. They are not retarded or mentally disabled, no. They might also have pent up anger from being raised in an environment that is very restrictive for them. Other people who aren't Deaf or hard of hearing may also have had this upbringing. You can't blame them for that.
